Austin Ray Suddath
Austin Ray Suddath, 81, of Gleason, died Tuesday,
August 26, 2008, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services for
Mr. Suddath were held Friday, August 29, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.
at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed
in West Union Cemetery in Dresden. Rev. Gene Price
officiated the services.
Mr. Suddath was a retired car dealer and a Veteran of the
United States Army having served in World War II. He was a
member of the Gleason First Baptist Church. Mr. Suddath was
born February 28, 1927 in Dresden to the late Joe and Elsie
Jones Suddath. In addition to his parents, Mr. Suddath was
also preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Suddath.
Mr. Suddath is survived by his wife, Lena Johnson Suddath of
Gleason; a son, Richard Suddath of Dresden; two daughters,
Peggy Crawford of Gleason, and Alice Crossno of Paris; ten
grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild. David A.
"Fish" Fischer
David A. "Fish" Fischer, 74, of Dresden, died Friday, August
29, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Fischer were
held Sunday, August 31, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral
Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Mack's Grove
Cemetery. Bro. Vernon Smith and Bro. Kerry Shopher
officiated the services.
Mr. Fischer was a retired Dresden High School custodian and
was also retired from the National Guard. He was a member of
the American Legion Post #94 and a Baptist by faith. Mr.
Fischer was born in Pontiac, Michigan to the late Arthur and
Marie Cummings Fischer. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Fischer was also preceded in death by a sister, Connie
Price; and a brother, John Fischer.
Mr. Fischer is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred L. Frazier
Fischer of Dresden; two daughters, Dawn (Dale) Brooks of
Dresden, and Deanna (Chad) Mayo of Dresden; three sons,
Darren (Michelle) Fischer of Martin, Dale Fischer of Martin,
and David (Michelle) Fischer of Memphis; a sister, Mary
(Tim) Collins of Lapeer, Michigan; a brother, Robert Fischer
of Dresden; fourteen grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren. Euraline Crews
James
Euraline Crews James, 85, of Palmersville, died Wednesday,
August 27, 2008, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. James were held Saturday, August
30, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Union Chapel Church of Christ in
Palmersville. Burial followed in Morgan Cemetery in
Palmersville. Dennis Doughty and Shannon Seaton officiated
the services.
Mrs. James was a housewife and a member of Union Chapel
Church of Christ. She was born in Obion County to the late
Jim and Neetie Lou Moore Crews. In addition to her parents,
Mrs. James was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr.
Andrew Jackson James; and two brothers, Buddy and Wendy
Crews.
Mrs. James is survived by two daughters, Doris Faye
Cunningham of Hornbeak, and Wanda Lee Riley of Union City; a
son, Connie Mac James of Palmersville; two grandchildren,
Carla Burress of Hornbeak, and Joey James of Springville;
three great-grandchildren, Lindsey and Armie James of
Springville, and Dylan Burress of Hornbeak; and two nephews,
R.C. Crews of Union City, and Kenneth Crews of South Fulton.
Garnet Jones Mealor
Garnet Jones Mealor, 98, of Nashville, died Tuesday, August
26, 2008, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. Funeral
services for Mrs. Mealor were held Thursday, August 28,
2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial
followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Houston
Patrick and Rev. David Brown officiated the services.
Mrs. Mealor was retired from General Motors Corp. - Chevrolet
Division and was a Baptist by faith. She was a graduate of
Union University. Mrs. Mealor was born October 3, 1909 in
Weakley County (Latham) to the late W.W. Jones and Lizzie
Brundige Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mealor was
also preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Del Richardson
and Ruva Halliburton.
Mrs. Mealor is survived by a brother, Truett Jones of Martin.
Jere Mac Buckley
Jere Mac Buckley, 72, of Dresden, died Wednesday, August 27,
2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Buckley were
held Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Bowlin
Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Little
Zion Cemetery in Palmersville. Bro. Claude Miller Prince and
Bro. Richard Brewer officiated the services.
Mr. Buckley was a truck driver for the Weakley County Highway
Department. He was also a veteran of the United States Army
and a missile crewman stationed in Germany. Mr. Buckley was
a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge. He
was born in Cottage Grove to the late Willie Seymore and
Ottis Ross Buckley. In addition to his parents, Mr. Buckley
was also preceded in death by a brother, Ross Buckley; and a
sister, Mary Lou Goodwin.
Mr. Buckley is survived by two sisters, Emma Sue Stow of
Louisville, Kentucky, and Norma Faye Tapley of Hampton,
Georgia; three brothers, Robert Gene Buckley of Louisville,
Kentucky, Lynn Ray Buckley of Monticello, Kentucky, and
William H. "Bill" Buckley of Nashville; and his fiancé,
Loreen Floyd of Dresden. Mary R.
(Chappell) Bunch
Mary R. (Chappell) Bunch, 83, of Lansing, Michigan, formerly
of Martin, died Monday, August 25, 2008. Funeral services
were held Saturday, August 30, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at
Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Interment followed in
Eastside Cemetery in Martin. Brother Mark Abbott officiated
the services.
Mrs. Bunch was born October 17, 1924, in Martin, the daughter
of Finis and Ruby (Smith) Chappell. She graduated from
Martin High School, Morgans Business School and Bruce
Business College. She was a Veteran of World War II, serving
in WAC Army Medical Corps as a physical therapist in the
third Service Command. She was an approved librarian of the
S.B.C. and served for over 35 years in the Music Department
in churches in Michigan and Tennessee. Mrs. Bunch married in
1942 to William H. Bunch. Mrs. Bunch was preceded in death
by her husband of 63 years, William; parents, Finis and
Ruby; brother, Johnny Chappell.
Mrs. Bunch is survived by her sons, James "Rick" (Sue) of
Huntsville, Alabama, and Barry (Debbie) of Mason, Michigan;
sisters, Jean of Farmington, New Mexico, and Dorothy of
Memphis; four grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and ten
great-grandchildren. Ruby W. Butler
Ruby W. Butler, 77, of St. Louis, Missouri, formerly of
Dresden, died Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Services for Mrs.
Butler will be held Tuesday, September 9, 2008, at 1:00 p.m.
at the First Baptist Church of Affton in St. Louis.
Mrs. Butler was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in
Dresden. She was preceded in death by two sons, Frank and
Gary.
Mrs. Butler is survived by her husband, Billy; and her son
and daughter-in-law, Gene and Jill of St. Louis.

Vernon B. Skelton
Vernon B. Skelton, 84, of Martin, died Sunday, August 24,
2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. Skelton were held Wednesday, August 27,
2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Eastside Cemetery in Martin. Bro. Jerry
Grimsley officiated the services.
Mr. Skelton was a retired City of Martin employee and
previously a die setter for Cinch Manufacturing of Chicago,
Illinois for 30 years. He was a member of the First
Apostolic Church of Union City. Mr. Skelton was born in
Steele, Missouri to the late Marvin and Dessie Beatty
Skelton. In addition to his parents, Mr. Skelton was also
preceded in death by a daughter, Wanda Gacke; a
granddaughter, Kimberly Walters; and nine brothers and
sisters.
Mr. Skelton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Irene
Dildine Skelton of Martin; three daughters, Shelby Jean
(Frank) Walters of Martin, Debbie (Larry) Bradberry of
Martin, and Cindy Turnbow of Martin; a son, Mike (Pam)
Skelton of Martin; fifteen grandchildren; and twenty-four
great-grandchildren.
