Constance Joy (Connie) Frields
Constance Joy (Connie) Frields, 56, of Memphis, died
Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Methodist Hospital Central in
Memphis. Funeral services for Miss Frields were held Tuesday,
September 30, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin.
Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Larry Tubb and
Rev. Linda McLargin officiated the services.
Miss Frields formerly taught at Briercrest School and was a
member of St. Matthews United Methodist Church in Memphis. She was
born September 6, 1952 in Muskegon, Michigan. Miss Frields was
preceded in death by her father, Aubrey Frields.
Miss Frields is survived by her mother, Mildred Janes Frields
of Memphis; a sister, Cheryl Graw of Germantown; niece, Elizabeth
Russell of Germantown; and nephew, Jordan Graw of Nashville.
Dorothy S. "Dot" Smith
Dorothy S. "Dot" Smith, 77, of South Fulton, died Wednesday,
September 24, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services were Sunday, September 28, at 2:30 p.m. at Hornbeak Funeral
Chapel in Fulton, Kentucky with Dr. Jack Acree officiating. Burial
followed in Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Smith was born December 21, 1930 in Gleason to the late
Jack A. and Audie M. Sullivan Bowers. She was an elementary school
teacher in the Obion County school system, retiring in 1991 after
teaching at South Fulton Elementary School. She also taught for
three years at the former Welch School at Dukedom and five years at
Martin Elementary. She had been recognized as Distinguished
Classroom Teacher of the Year and was a member of the Obion County
Retired Teachers Association and the Tennessee Education
Association. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fulton,
Kentucky. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by three
brothers, Richard, William Arthur and Nicky Bowers.
Survivors include: her husband, Ralph M. Smith; one sister,
Brenda Sosebee of Pine Mountain, Georgia; and several nieces and
nephews.
Farryce Fuqua Little
Farryce Fuqua Little, 93, of Sharon, died Sunday, September
28, 2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Funeral
services for Mrs. Little will be held today, Wednesday, October 1,
2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will
follow in Mt. Ararat Cemetery in Troy. Rev. David Rogers, Rev. Ray
Harding, and Rev. Louis Whitman will officiate the services.
Mrs. Little formerly worked at Mar-Tenn Country Hams and was
a member of Cypress Creek Baptist Church. She was born November 4,
1914 in Weakley County to the late Jarvis Fuqua and Myrtle Prince
Little. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Little was also preceded in
death by her husband, James Wesley Little; a son, Larry Little; two
brothers, Hayes Fuqua and Carl Fuqua; and a sister, Lucille
Hazlewood.
Mrs. Little is survived by a son, Jimmy Little of Rock
Springs, Wyoming; a daughter, Billie Kennett of Martin; four
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Faye Bynum Nanney
Faye Bynum Nanney, 90, of Mayfield, Kentucky, died Saturday,
September 27, 2008, at Mills Health & Rehab Center in Mayfield.
Funeral services for Mrs. Nanney were held Tuesday, September 30,
2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial
followed in Rozzell Chapel Cemetery in Graves County.
Mrs. Nanney was a member of the Calvary First United
Methodist Church in Mayfield and had been an employee of the former
Mayfield Community Hospital, where she had worked in the
housekeeping department. She was born April 19, 1918 in Hickman
County, Kentucky to the late Tom and Lucy Ann (McKinney) Thompson,
and had lived in Graves County most of her life. Mrs. Nanney had
also lived in the Pryorsburg and Latham communities. In addition to
her parents, Mrs. Nanney was also preceded in death by three
husbands, Gaylon Bynum, Tim Ainley, and Homer Nanney; a son, David
Bynum; a daughter, Lois Bynum; three brothers; and a half-brother.
Mrs. Nanney is survived by a son, Donald Bynum of Hutchinson,
Kansas; a daughter, Shirley Ann Gibson of Chicago, Illinois; a
half-sister, Peggy Simon of Tiptonville; five grandchildren;
thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Gavin Crocker Webb
Gavin Crocker Webb, infant, died Saturday, September 27,
2008, at Dyersburg Regional Medical Center. Funeral services were
held Monday, September 29, 2008, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Baptist
Church. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery. Dr. Mike Hickman
officiated the services.
Survivors include his parents, Chad and Mandy Webb; a sister,
Madelyn Webb; grandparents, Danny Brown of Dresden; Donald and
Brenda Davis of Dresden; Jack and Sarah Webb of Cottage Grove;
great-grandparents, Frances Brown and the late L.D. Brown of Sharon;
Leon Crocker of Tiptonville and the late Mae Pinion; the late J.E.
and Nettie Rea Webb, Morgan and Dorothy Kemp of Cottage Grove.
James "Jim" Hezzie Brann
James "Jim" Hezzie Brann, 64, of Jeffersonville, Indiana,
died Sunday, September 28, 2008, at Clark Memorial Hospital in
Jeffersonville. Graveside services for Mr. Brann will be held
Saturday, October 4, 2008, at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dukedom.
Mr. Brann had retired from IBM and worked in the Louisville
office. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. Mr.
Brann was a member of the FMCA (Family Motor Coach Association). He
was born September 13, 1944 in Latham to the late Carl and Adell
(Rea) Brann. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brann was also preceded
in death by a son, Travis Brann; and a brother, Lyndel Brann.
Mr. Brann is survived by his wife, Clara (Friedley) Brann of
Jeffersonville, Indiana; and a sister and brother-in-law, Janice and
Steve Gunter of New Canton, Virginia.
James W. Gruggett
James W. Gruggett, 31, of Greenfield, died Sunday, September
21, 2008, in Jackson. Graveside services for Mr. Gruggett were held
Friday, September 26, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in
Greenfield. Bro. Don Williams officiated the services.
Mr. Gruggett worked for Hillview Nursing Home in Dresden as a
CNA. He was born November 11, 1976. Mr. Gruggett was preceded in
death by his father, Donald Gruggett.
Mr. Gruggett is survived by his mother, Alice (Ramsey)
Gruggett of Greenfield; two sisters, Alisha Gruggett of Greenfield,
and Tracy Gruggett of Greenfield; one niece; and two nephews.
Marvin Curtis Henderson
Marvin Curtis Henderson, 58, of the Latham-Dukedom community,
died Tuesday, September 23, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for
Mr. Henderson were held Saturday, September 27, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.
at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial followed in Pinegar
Cemetery in Dukedom. Rev. Danny Walker, Rev. Joe Watson, and Rev.
Jim Dluzniewski officiated the services.
Mr. Henderson had been an employee of the Goodyear Tire &
Rubber Company for 30 years and had worked in the tireroom and the
banberry. He was a member of Liberty Worship Center in South Fulton.
Mr. Henderson was born April 4, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan and had
lived in this area since 1976. He was preceded in death by his
mother, Aretta (McKinney) Henderson; and his first wife, Luana Joy (Diola)
Henderson.
Mr. Henderson is survived by his wife, Tina (Sherard)
Henderson of the Latham-Dukedom community; his father, John H.
Henderson of Clinton, Kentucky; four daughters, Kimberly Boyd of
Fulton, Nicole Williams of Dukedom, Amber Henderson of Fulton, and
Lisa McCraw of Clarksville; a stepdaughter, Michelle Powers of
Huntsville, Alabama; seven grandchildren, Bailee Boyd, Jayden
Williams, Avery Boyd, Sheridan Boyd, Brooklyn Williams, Lily
Henderson, and Toni McCraw; three sisters, Marilyn Stover and Sandy
Dluzniewski, both of Fulton, and Linda Cherry of Dukedom; and a
brother, Michael C. Henderson of Fulton.
Thomas Steven Starks
Thomas Steven Starks, 59, of Gleason, TN formerly of Akin,
SC, passed away September 22, 2008 after a courageous 10 year battle
with brain cancer.
A family gathering will be Wednesday, 5 - 8:30 p.m. at the
First Baptist Church in Gleason, TN.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 25 at
3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gleason, TN. Keith Sumner,
pastor of the First Baptist Church and Steve Gallimore Senior Pastor
of the Tennessee Valley Community Church in Paris, will officiate.
Steve has chosen to donate his body to medical science
research at the University of TN in Memphis. The body will not be
available for viewing.
Honorary pallbearers are Robert Hames, Hunter Hames, Jimmy
Stewart, Keith Dublin, W.L. Boane, and Ronnie Lawrence.
Steve was born in Murray, KY on September 7, 1949, son of
James Wesley and Mary Alice Starks. Steve graduated from Gleason
High School in 1967. Steve was preceded in death by his father,
James Wesley Starks.
He is survived by his wife Karen Kay, they were married on
September 22, 2006; his mother Mary Alice Starks, of Gleason; son
Steven Starks-Spear of Conchas Dam, NM (wife Angie, children Thomas,
Stephanie & Maddie); son Brad Starks of Clearwater, FL (wife Shelly
& daughter Abagail); son WestLee Starks-Spear of Clovis, NM.
He is also survived by two sisters: Becky Hames of Gleason
(husband Robert "Noonie", children Hunter & Heidi) and Martha
Stewart of Paris (husband Jimmy, children Wendy Barnhart & Kris
Stewart); great nieces Kara Grace & Logan Marie Barnhart, great
nephew Noah Barnhart and stepdaughter Jennifer Haley of Amarillo,
TX. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, & cousins.
Steve served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to
1989. After boot camp in Amarillo, TX and munitions school in
Denver, CO he was deployed to Vietnam and served during the war on
Phan Rang Air Force Base from 1969-1970. He was then stationed at
Hickam Air Force Base in Hawaii for 4 years. He also served at Shaw
Air Force Base in SC, Clark AFB in the Philippines, Cannon AFB in
Clovis, NM, and Kunsan AFB in Korea.
Steve served as a Military-Training Instructor at Lackland
AFB in San Antonio, TX from 1984 to 1988. Steve retired while
serving at England AFB in Alexandria, LA.
During his 21 year military career, he received four Meritorious
Service Medals:
1. 1978, Clark AFB in Philippines 3rd Tactical Fighter Wing
2. 1984, the First Oak Leaf Cluster, Korea, 8th Tactical Fighter
Wing
3. 1988, Lackland AFB, TX, 3701st Basic Military Training Squadron
4. 1989, the First Oak Leaf Cluster, England AFB, LA, 23rd Tactical
Fighter Wing
After retiring from the military, Steve moved back to TN
where he was a truck driver.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial to St. Jude
Children's Research Hospital or church youth fund of your choice.
