Dorothy J. Fortner
Dorothy J. Fortner, 71, of Dresden, died Sunday, May 4, 2008,
at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mrs. Fortner were held Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at 3:00
p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed
in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield. Bro. Don McCulley
officiated the services.
Mrs. Fortner was a cook for the Dresden School Cafeteria and
attended the First Baptist Church. She was born September
12, 1936 in Bradford to the late Jessie Gammons and Lela Mae
Newell.
Mrs. Fortner is survived by four sons, Kenny Fortner of
Greenfield, Gary Fortner of Dresden, Gregory Fortner of
Farmington, Kentucky, and Darren Fortner of Jackson; a
daughter, Kim Gutierrez of Dresden; a sister, Shirley Dicus
of Sharon; thirteen grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren.
Edna Frances Love
Edna Frances Love, 85, of Jackson, died Monday, April 28,
2008, at Maplewood Health Care in Jackson. Funeral services
for Miss Love were held Sunday, May 4, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at
Pleasantview Baptist Church. Burial followed in Highland
Cemetery in Sharon. Rev. E.N. Coleman officiated the
services.
Miss Love was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse and a member
of Pleasantview Baptist Church. She was born August 1, 1922
in Sharon to the late Will Love and Annie Lee Beckett Love.
In addition to her parents, Miss Love was also preceded in
death by a sister, Virginia Starr.
Miss Love is survived by a brother, William George Love of
Chicago, Illinois; a sister, Annie Marie Miller of Horne
Lake, Mississippi; and niece and caregiver, Sherrie L.
Miller of Memphis.
Janette McKinney
Janette McKinney, 83, of Fulton, Kentucky, died Monday, May
5, 2008, at Parkway Regional Hospital. Funeral services for
Ms. McKinney will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 11:00
a.m. at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial will
follow in Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City. Rev.
David Bayer will officiate the services.
Ms. McKinney was a homemaker and a member of the Fulton
Cumberland Presbyterian Church in South Fulton. She was born
February 25, 1925 in Hickman County, Kentucky to the late
Clifford J. and Willena (Kaler) McBride. In addition to her
parents, Ms. McKinney was also preceded in death by a son,
Harry McKinney, Jr.; and a sister.
Ms. McKinney is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law,
David and Shelia McKinney of Fairview, Tennessee, and Bob
McKinney of Hornlake, Mississippi; a daughter and
son-in-law, Sherrie and David Worley of Greenfield; seven
grandchildren and spouses, Rob Adcock, Todd and Susan
McKinney, Brad and Kelly McKinney, Scott and Jennifer
McKinney, Ben Worley, Ginger Worley, and Cody Worley; and
five great-grandchildren, Blake McKinney, Ashleigh McKinney,
Tyler McKinney, Elise McKinney, and Camille McKinney.
Lillian Mamie "Aunt Babe" Hanlon
Lillian Mamie "Aunt Babe" Hanlon, 91, died May 3, 2008, in
Lansing, Michigan. She was born August 2, 1916 to Roy
Charles and Mary Alice (Sullivan) Foote in Greenfield. She
moved to Lansing in 1924 with her family. She attended
Lansing Schools and Youngstown, Ohio schools, graduating
from Lansing Eastern in 1932. Moving back to Youngstown
after graduation, she was an early career woman, opening
millinery shops in Youngstown, Cleveland, Chicago and
Milwaukee, among other cities. The beginning of WWII found
her back in Lansing, where she also opened a shop, and where
she met her husband, Marcus Hanlon, marrying him in 1942.
Later in life, she worked for Gordon's Apparel in Lansing.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Marcus Hanlon; her
parents, Roy and Mary Alice Foote; six brothers, Vodrey,
Aubrey, Les, Tom, Roy, and Bill; and three sisters, Corrine
Cannon, Lucille Garvey, and Kate Doyle.
Survivors include her children, Mary Anne (Kenneth) Smith of
Lansing, Michael (Kathy) of Lansing, Patrick (special friend
Laura) of Central Lake, and Sean (Donna) of Sandy, Oregon;
grandchildren, Ian Smith of Jackson, Graham Smith of Kyoto,
Japan, Ann-Marie Smith of Lansing, Erin and Brianne Hanlon,
Molly (Jake) Sundstrom of Indian River, Maggie Hanlon of
Central Lake; two great-granddaughters, Lillian and Julia
Sundstrom of Indian River; and numerous nieces, nephews,
grand and great-nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.,
at Palmer, Bush & Jensen Family Funeral Homes, Lansing
Chapel. Interment will follow in Deepdale Memorial Park.
Martha Louise Jones
Martha Louise Jones, 68, of Dyersburg, died Tuesday, April
29, 2008, at Martin Healthcare Center. Funeral services for
Mrs. Jones were held Thursday, May 1, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at
Dyersburg Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed in Unity
General Baptist Church Cemetery in Dresden. Rev. Jeremy
Ballinger and Rev. Don Layman officiated the services.
Mrs. Jones was a homemaker and a member of Holy Hills Baptist
Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rob and
Effie Hawks; a daughter, Deborah Kay Jones; four sisters,
Lottie Barber, Etta Lee Byers, Evestine Dalton, and Garnett
Hawks; and six brothers, Frank Hawks, Howard Hawks, Russell
Hawks, Bud Hawks, Leon Partlow, and Horton Arnold.
Mrs. Jones is survived by her husband, Rev. Fred Jones of
Dyersburg; a son, Timothy Mark Jones of Dyersburg; three
sisters, Amelia Pennington of Dresden, Betty Winstead of
Dyersburg, and Sarah Jones of Paris; four brothers, John
Hawks of Springfield, Missouri, David Hawks of Farmington,
Kentucky, Glenn Hawks of Dresden, and Bill Hawks of St.
Louis, Missouri; two grandchildren, Aaron Jones and David
Jones; and one great-grandchild.
Rachel M. Boaz
Rachel M. Boaz, 86, of Greenfield, died May 3, 2008, at
Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral services for Mrs. Boaz
were held May 4, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home
in Greenfield. Burial followed in Meridian Cemetery in
Greenfield. Keith Pence officiated the services.
Mrs. Boaz was born January 22, 1922 in Greenfield to the late
Ollie Raney and Luna Scates.
Mrs. Boaz is survived by two sons, Tommy Boaz of Hollow Rock,
and Johnny Boaz of Greenfield.
Ronald Earl Ross
Ronald Earl Ross, 51, of Martin, died Friday, May 2, 2008, at
Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Graveside services
for Mr. Ross will be held Saturday, May 10, 2008, at
Haviland Cemetery in Haviland, Kansas.
Mr. Ross formerly worked for Waymatic Inc. in South Fulton.
He was born December 3, 1956 in Cresent City, California.
Mr. Ross is survived by his parents, Gerald Warren and
Patricia Weaver Ross of Roseburg, Oregon; and two brothers,
Richard Ross of Martin, and Loren Ross of Akron, Ohio.
Shanda Barker Brawner
Shanda Barker Brawner, 45, of Martin, died Sunday, April 4,
2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Memorial
funeral services for Mrs. Brawner will be held Wednesday,
May 7, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at New Home Baptist Church. Rev.
Scott Chadwick will officiate the services.
Mrs. Brawner worked in Accounting at Tyson Foods, Inc. and
attended New Home Baptist Church. She was born December 1,
1962 in Odessa, Texas to the late Jimmy Barker and Ann
Murphy Barker.
Mrs. Brawner is survived by her husband, Troy R. (Randy)
Brawner of Martin; two sons, Braden Brawner of McKinleyville,
California, and Anthony Miller of Sharon; a daughter, Lynsey
Davis of Jacksonville, North Carolina; a brother, Dane
Barker of Ashville, North Carolina; a sister, Caressa Barker
of Odessa, Texas; and four grandchildren, Wesley Welker,
Jace Brawner, Ella Grace Miller, and Parker Ray Davis.
