Arthur James Colson
Arthur James Colson, 45, died February 27, 2008, at a
friend's home in Chicago, Illinois. He was cremated March 6
and will be laid to rest in Martin.
He was born in Cook County, Illinois, on December 5, 1962.
Mr. Colson is survived by his mother, Mary Jo Betterman of
Chicago, Illinois; sister, Kathy Gaberry, Julie Betterman,
Kyla Elliott of Chicago, Illinois, and Rose Roberts of
Martin; brothers, Thomas Elliott of Chicago, Illinois, and
Briant Colson of Dresden.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur W. Colson;
grandparents, Maurice and Rosemarie Colson and Thelma
Pauline and James J. Stahulak; four nieces and two nephews.
Carolyn Moore Harrawood
Carolyn Moore Harrawood, 78, of Martin, died Monday, March
10, 2008, at her home. Graveside services for Mrs. Harrawood
were held Thursday, March 13, 2008, at 12:00 p.m. at Lindale
Memorial Garden in Harrisburg, Illinois. Rev. Judith Beyler
officiated the services.
Mrs. Harrawood was a retired Registered Nurse and a member of
Trinity Presbyterian Church in Martin. She was born April
23, 1929 in Saline County, Illinois to the late Harry Moore
and Maude Taylor Moore. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Harrawood was also preceded in death by her husband, Bill
Harrawood; and a daughter, Teressa Harrawood.
Mrs. Harrawood is survived by a son, Steve (Cindy) Adams of
Martin; a brother, Harry Gene Moore of Harrisburg, Illinois;
and two grandchildren, Alesha Ezell of Collierville,
Tennessee, and Nicole Adams of Martin.
Edna Loreter Gallimore
Edna Loreter Gallimore, 92, of Dresden, died Tuesday, March
11, 2008, at Hillview Community Living Center in Dresden.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gallimore were held Thursday,
March 13, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel
in Dresden. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sharon.
Bro. G.W. Moon and Bro. Vernon Smith officiated the
services.
Mrs. Gallimore was a housewife and a member of Travis Chapel
Methodist Church in Dresden. She was born in Dresden to the
late Zebulin "Zee" and Iva Watson Summer. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Gallimore was also preceded in death by her
husband, Mr. Charles Raymond Gallimore; two daughters, Iva
Lillian "Sue" Mink and Edna Huffstatler; a son, Charles
Edward Gallimore; three sisters, Annie May Witherington,
Florence Terry, and Kathlene Perry; a brother, Charlie
"Herman" Summer; and two grandsons, Steven Mink and Charles
Timothy Gallimore.
Mrs. Gallimore is survived by a daughter, Joann Reynolds of
Sharon; a sister, Shirley Vaice of Big Bear City,
California; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren;
and five great-great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth Darnell
Elizabeth Darnell, 93, of Effingham, Illinois, died Monday,
March 10, 2008, at St. Anthony Medical Hospital in
Effingham. Graveside services for Mrs. Darnell were held
Saturday, March 15, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Grove
Cemetery in Dukedom. Bro. H.B. Fields officiated the
services.
Mrs. Darnell was a postal clerk, Substitute carrier and
sometimes postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service and was
affiliated with the Centenary United Methodist Church in
Effingham. She was a member of the Eastern Star and NARFE.
Mrs. Darnell was born January 21, 1915 in Dukedom to the
late Fred and Clara Ruth (Wooldridge) Farmer. In addition to
her parents, Mrs. Darnell was also preceded in death by her
husband, James Forrest Darnell.
Mrs. Darnell is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Ruth
and John Abell of Teutopolis, Illinois; two grandchildren,
Michael Abell of Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and Becky (Henry)
Eirich of St. Louis, Missouri; and a great-grandchild, Alex
Eirich.
Lee Thomas Stricklin
Lee Thomas Stricklin, infant, died Friday, March 14, 2008, at
Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Graveside services
were held Sunday, March 16, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Tansil
Cemetery. James Gary Roberts officiated the services.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Donna Stricklin of
Sharon; grandmother, Helen Canada of Sharon; and
grandfather, George Stricklin of Sharon.
Lemuel Lee Rice
Lemuel Lee Rice, 81, of Union City, died Tuesday, March 11,
2008, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Funeral
services for Mr. Rice were held Thursday, March 13, 2008, at
2:00 p.m. at White-Ranson Funeral Home, Inc. in Union City.
Burial followed in East View Cemetery. Rev. Chip Davis and
Rev. Jerry Leggett officiated the services.
Mr. Rice was born February 25, 1927 in Hancock County,
Kentucky to the late Hardin David Rice and Mary Stella
(Sheldon) Rice. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rice was
also preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters.
Mr. Rice is survived by his wife, Sue Taylor of Union City,
whom he married January 11, 1948; a son, Steve (Linda) Rice
of Union City; granddaughter, Becky (Brad) Morgan of
Clarksville; grandson, Hunter (Melissa) Rice of Union City;
great-grandchildren, Aiden Morgan of Clarksville, and Addy
Rice of Union City; and sister, Mary Virginia Rice of Union
City.
Marion James Peterson
Marion James Peterson, 98, of Dresden, died Wednesday, March
12, 2008, at Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing
Center in Dresden. Memorial services for Mr. Peterson were
held Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Adams Chapel Baptist
Church in Dresden. Bro. Larry Reagan officiated the
services.
Mr. Peterson was a Tool and Die Maker for Gates Rubber
Company and a Baptist by faith. He was born in Nebraska to
the late Hans Peterson.
Mr. Peterson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Deloris Key
Peterson of Dresden; two sons, Donald Peterson of Lakewood,
Colorado, and Gene Peterson of Morgan, Utah; a sister,
Dorothy Fogg of Montana; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Mary Maurine McIntyre
Mary Maurine McIntyre, 93, of Fulton, Kentucky, died
Saturday, March 15, 2008, at Haws Memorial Nursing Home.
Graveside services for Mrs. McIntyre were held Monday, March
17, 2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Obion County Memorial Gardens in
Union City.
Mrs. McIntyre was a homemaker and a member of the First
Baptist Church in Fulton, Kentucky. She was born February
24, 1915 in Obion County to the late Emmett A. and Annie Lee
(Wallis) Arnold. In addition to her parents, Mrs. McIntyre
was also preceded in death by husband, Oscar E. "Bud"
McIntyre; a son, James McIntyre; four grandchildren; five
brothers; and three sisters.
Mrs. McIntyre is survived by three sons, Joe McIntyre of
Dallas, Texas, Bobby McIntyre of Dallas, Texas, and Kenneth
McIntyre of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a daughter, Betty Perry
of Dry Ridge, Kentucky; fourteen grandchildren; sixteen
great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a
brother, Raymond Carl Arnold of Dresden; and a sister,
Eudora Gaines of Nashville.
MSgt. James "J.C." McDermott
MSgf. James "J.C." McDermott, 76, of Warner Robins, Georgia,
died Saturday, March 15, 2008.
MSgt. McDermott was born on June 23, 1931, in Gleason. He was
a member of Central Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday
school for many years and was also a member of the Aubrey
Crocker Bible Class. A. U.S. Air Force combat veteran, he
participated in the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and
received the Bronze Star. Subsequent to his Air Force
career, he continued to serve his country as a civil servant
at Robins Air Force Base. He retired from Robins Air Force
Base after twenty-three years of service. MSgt. McDermott
was a dedicated volunteer with the Georgia Department of
Natural Resources. His parents, Cliff McDermott and Lora
McDermott; siblings, Helen Sees, Junior McDermott, and
Frances Lyles, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Rush McDermott of Warner Robins;
daughter, Patty Malpass and husband Jim of Augusta; sons,
Ricky McDermott and wife Karen of Warner Robins, and David
McDermott and wife Tonia of Warner Robins; grandchildren,
Misty, Matt, Brian, Chris, Jeff, Kristen, Michael and Maci;
great-grandchildren, Brianna, Lala, Bradford, Sophia, Skye
and Aidan; and sister, Dorothy Cooper of Kenton.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at 2:00
p.m. at Central Baptist Church with interment following in
Parkway Memorial Gardens.
Patty Rachels
Patty Rachels, 74, of Greenfield, died Saturday, March 15,
2008, at Martin Health Care Center. Funeral services for
Mrs. Rachels were held Monday, March 17, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.
at the First Baptist Church in Greenfield. Burial followed
in Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield. Joe Lusby officiated the
services.
Mrs. Rachels was a retired Kellwood Factory employee and
attended the First Baptist Church in Greenfield. She was
born January 15, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Roy
Lee Witherspoon and Mary Estelle Danner.
Mrs. Rachels is survived by her husband, Sam Rachels of
Greenfield; a daughter, Sherry Pritchard of Greenfield; a
son, Eddie Rachels of Memphis; two sisters, Martha Jo Curry
of Greenfield, and Sue Galey of Memphis; three brothers,
Jimmy Witherspoon of Greenfield, Noble Witherspoon of Sun
City, Arizona, and Ronnie Witherspoon of Greenfield; and two
grandchildren, Dustin and Clint Pritchard.
Paul Wayne Butler
Paul Wayne Butler, 85, of Springville, Tennessee, died
Friday, March 14, 2008, at Paris Health Care and Rehab
Center. Funeral services for Mr. Butler were held Sunday,
March 16, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel
in Sharon. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery in Sharon.
Rev. Tommy Harrison officiated the services.
Mr. Butler worked for Tower Automotive in Quality Control. He
was born February 23, 1943 in Weakley County.
Mr. Butler is survived by a son, Michael Wayne Butler of
Springville; a daughter, Cheryl (Ronnie) Howard of
Springville; a sister, Susan (David) Ray of Dresden; and
three grandchildren.
Raymond Edward Lamb
Raymond Edward Lamb, 95, of Martin, died Sunday, March 16,
2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. Lamb were held Tuesday, March 18, 2008, at
the First United Methodist Church. Burial followed in East
Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Bill Tate and Rev. Terry
Griffin officiated the services.
Mr. Lamb owned and operated General Fire Service. He was a
member of the First United Methodist Church, a 50 + year
member of the Martin Masonic Lodge #551, former member of
the Martin Volunteer Fire Department and former member of
the Weakley County Election Commission. He also, along with
H.B. Smith, founded We Care Ministries of Martin. Mr. Lamb
was born September 7, 1912 in Ralston to the late Elvie
Sylvester Lamb and Lucinda Welch Lamb. In addition to his
parents, Mr. Lamb was also preceded in death by his wife,
Edna Davis Lamb; a brother, Roy Lamb; and a sister, Novella
Lamb Wilson.
Mr. Lamb is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Helen Lamb (Paul)
Jackson of Germantown; two grandchildren, Paul Douglas Lamb,
Jr. of LaGrange, and Michael Edward Jackson, Sr. of
Germantown; and five great-grandchildren, Paul Douglas
Jackson, III, Taylor Lamb Jackson, Mark Edward Jackson, Jr.,
Amanda Ruth Jackson, and John Vaden Jackson.
Memorials may be sent to Martin First United Methodist
Church Building Fund, Bible Union Cemetery Fund, or the
Ralston Cemetery Fund.
