Beryl Garrett Williams
Beryl Garrett Williams, 94, died Sunday, January 13, 2008, in
NHC Lewisburg. Graveside services were held Monday, January
14, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Greenfield.
Mrs. Williams was a native of Marshall County and the
daughter of the late Walter and Edna Bartlett Garrett. She
was the widow of John Ballard Williams and the co-owner,
with her husband, of Williams Department Store in
Greenfield. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her
husband, John Ballard Williams; and a sister, Josephine
Garrett McDaniel.
Surviving is a nephew, Thomas A. McAdams and niece, Diane
McAdams of the Liberty Valley Community; and nephew-in-law
and niece, Jimmy and Patricia Williams of Greenfield.
Brent Maddox "Matt" Melton, II
Brent Maddox "Matt" Melton, II, 37, of Dresden, died Tuesday,
January 15, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Funeral services for Mr. Melton were held Saturday, January
19, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro.
Toney Smith and Bro. Danny Douglas officiated the services.
Mr. Melton was a Technician for Cablevision and a member of
the Dresden Church of Christ. He was born in Madison County
in Jackson. Mr. Melton was preceded in death by his
grandparents, Mark E. Melton, Lucian and Ann Cox.
Mr. Melton is survived by three daughters, Erin Nicole
Melton of Gleason, Cassidy Anne Melton of Palmersville, and
Gillian Grace Melton of Palmersville; his parents, Brent
Maddox and Cynthia Lou Cox Melton; two brothers, Mark R.
Melton of Dresden, and Joshua W. Melton of Dresden; and his
grandmother, Mrs. Evelyn Bess Melton of Dresden.
Charles Wayne "Duke" Fuller
Charles Wayne "Duke" Fuller, 62, of Greenfield, died Sunday,
January 13, 2008, at the Memphis Forensic Center. Funeral
services for Mr. Fuller were held Friday, January 18, 2008,
at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant. Burial
followed in Shiloh Cemetery in Bradford.
Mr. Fuller was born October 20, 1945 in Greenfield to the
late James Dewey Fuller and Lucille (Stewart) Fuller Young.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Fuller was also preceded in
death by a daughter, Carolyn Simmons; and four brothers,
John Fuller, James Fuller, Richard Young, and Willie Young.
Mr. Fuller is survived by two sons, Charles "Buddy" (Crissy)
Fuller of Huntingdon, and Tim Fuller of Greenfield; four
daughters, Brenda (Gerald) Fuzzell of McKenzie, Misty
(Michael) Hays of McKenzie, Tammy (Scotty) Heavener of
Atwood, and Crystal (Jamie) Whitehead of Lexington; twenty
grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and cousins,
Mildred Stewart, Gloria June Hubble, and Freddie Stewart.
Claudena Jeter
Claudena Jeter, 92, of Park, Illinois, died Wednesday,
January 9, 2008, at Westchester Health & Rehab. Funeral
services for Mrs. Jeter were held Tuesday, January 15, 2008,
at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke Baptist Church. Burial followed in
Rose Hill Cemetery in Greenfield. Rev. Chris Johnson
officiated the services.
Mrs. Jeter was a cook and attended St. Luke Baptist Church.
She was born September 23, 1915 in Greenfield to the late
Early Allen and Nannie Winston. In addition to her parents,
Mrs. Jeter was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert
Jeter.
Mrs. Jeter is survived by a son, Pete Jeter of Chicago,
Illinois.
Hattie Alice Morgan
Hattie Alice Morgan, 81, of Sharon, died Monday, January 14,
2008, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Morgan were
held Thursday, January 17, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner
Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Bro. Jim Garner officiated
the services.
Mrs. Morgan was a homemaker. She was born September 12, 1926
in Pipestone Township, Mississippi. Mrs. Morgan was preceded
in death by two husbands, Claude Keller and James Harold
Morgan; a son, John Keller; and a stepson, Andy Morgan.
Mrs. Morgan is survived by a son, James (Sandra) Keller of
Napoleon, Mississippi; two daughters, Joyce (Bill) Bostwick
of Sharon, and Judith Pinnell of Sharon; four stepsons, Clay
Van Morgan of McKenzie, Ed Morgan of Sharon, Gary Morgan of
Martin, and Ronnie Morgan of Gleason; a brother, Frank (Jen)
Brandt of North Fork, North Dakota; two sisters, Elma
(Arnold) Doberstein of Dowagiac, Mississippi, and Francis
Luthjohan of Dowagiac, Mississippi; eight grandchildren;
seventeen great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Jan Rose Dortch Adams
Jan Rose Dortch Adams, 68, of Dresden, died Monday, January
14, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Ms. Adams were held Thursday, January 17, 2008,
at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial
followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Don McCulley
officiated the services.
Ms. Adams was retired from G.T.E. Telephone Company in
Elizabethtown, Kentucky. She was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Dresden and a 1958 graduate of Martin High
School. Ms. Adams was born January 2, 1940 in Paducah,
Kentucky to the late M.L. (Bill) Dortch and Bennie Elizabeth
Regan Dortch.
Ms. Adams is survived by a son, Dennis Morgan Adams, Jr.
(Gerri Ellen) of Ft. Smith, Arkansas; a brother, Lee Dortch
of Milan; and one grandchild, Ryan Elizabeth Adams of Ft.
Smith, Arkansas.
Joyce Damron Wittenberg
Joyce Damron Wittenberg, 85, of Martin, died Friday, January
18, 2008, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Graveside
services for Mrs. Wittenberg were held Sunday, January 20,
2008, at 2:00 p.m. at East Side Cemetery in Martin.
Mrs. Wittenberg formerly owned and operated Joyce's Beauty
Shop and was a member of the First United Methodist Church
in Martin. She was born November 18, 1922 in Hickman,
Kentucky to the late Roy Ballow and Annie Hargrove Ballow.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wittenberg was also
preceded in death by her husband, John Wittenberg; a
daughter, Kathy Damron; and a sister, Ann Ballow.
Mrs. Wittenberg is survived by a daughter, Martha Joe Damron
of Martin; a brother, Thomas "Buddy" Ballew of Paducah,
Kentucky; two grandchildren, Perry Bowlin of Martin, and T.J.
Damron of Dresden; and two great-grandchildren, Ryan Damron
and Rachel Kathryn Bowlin.
Larue Ann Beam
Larue Ann Beam, 65, of Gleason, died Monday, January 7, 2008,
at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Graveside services for Mrs.
Beam were held Friday, January 11, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at
Hopewell Cemetery. Rev. Gene Price officiated the services.
Mrs. Beam was a retired nurse and a member of Tumbling Creek
Baptist Church. She was born September 26, 1942 in Apollo,
Pennsylvania, to the late Paul Curtis Shirey and Violet
(Wilson) Burnett Shirey.
Mrs. Beam is survived by her husband, John Leroy Fulton Beam,
Jr.; two sons, Damion Beam of Gleason, and David Shirey of
Dundee, Illinois; four daughters, Gretchen Arneson of
Gleason, Robin Ostrom of Elgin, Illinois, Amanda Shirey of
Pennsylvania, and Jennifer Shirey of Pennsylvania; a sister,
Gladys Shellhammer of Murpheysboro, Georgia; thirteen
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Linda Marie Jackson
Linda Marie Jackson, 64, of Dresden, died Thursday, January
10, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Private
services for Mrs. Jackson were held Sunday, January 13,
2008, at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home in Dresden. Jerry
Dale Monroe officiated the services.
Mrs. Jackson was a retired factory worker at Sharon
Manufacturing and a Baptist by faith. She was a native of
Dresden and the daughter of the late Edward and Maxine
Parrish Wright. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jackson was
also preceded in death by her first husband, Rev. Gerald Ray
Howington; a daughter, Nancy Ann Howingto; and a brother,
Thomas Edward Wright.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, Mr. Maxie Jackson of
the Shawtown Community; two daughters, Tina (Bill) Cantrell
of Martin, and Rhonda Rickman of Dresden; four
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Martha Taylor Falwell Powell
Martha Taylor Falwell Powell, 94, of Martin, died Friday,
January 18, 2008, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services
for Mrs. Powell were held Monday, January 21, 2008, at 11:00
a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in East
Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. David Brown officiated the
services.
Mrs. Powell was a retired bookkeeper. She was a member of the
First Baptist Church and a graduate of Martin High School.
Mrs. Powell was born September 22, 1913 in Greenfield to the
late John Vance Taylor and Louise Akins Taylor. In addition
to her parents, Mrs. Powell was also preceded in death by
two husbands, Frank Falwell and C.M. Powell; a brother,
Travis Taylor; and two sisters, Mary Mikel and Montez
Swearingen Smith.
Mrs. Powell is survived by a sister, Dorothy (Dottie) Covington of
Martin.
Phillip Wayne Jackson
Phillip Wayne Jackson, 66, of Dresden, died Saturday, January
12, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Jackson were
held Tuesday, January 15, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin
Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in New Hope
Cemetery in Latham. Bro. Kenneth Williams officiated the
services.
Mr. Jackson was a machinist all of his life and had also
worked for Oliver Machine. He was a Baptist by faith. Mr.
Jackson was born May 3, 1941 in Martin. Mr. Jackson is
survived by his wife, Violet Wienckowski Jackson of Dresden;
a daughter, Cheryl Jackson of Dresden; two sons, Duane
(Diane) Jackson of Dresden, and Steven (Joneice) Jackson of
Dresden; five sisters, Susie (Doyle) Cooper of Dresden,
Karon (Larry) Moubray of Palmersville, Brenda (James)
McClure of Wingo, Kentucky, Linda (Junior) McClure of Wingo,
Kentucky, and Glenda (Lonnie) McClure of Wingo, Kentucky;
four brothers, James (Ramona) Jackson of Dresden, Robert
(Shirley) Perry of Palmersville, Roger (Debra) Jackson of
Wingo, Kentucky, and John Wayne (Kim) Jackson of Fulton,
Kentucky; one grandchild, Zachary Jackson; three
step-grandchildren, Shelee and Desarae Wiley, and Dominique
Minga; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by his father, Lee Jackson;
and his mother and stepfather, Lucy Ketchem Jackson Perry
and Willie Perry.
Rhonda H. Crawford
Rhonda H. Crawford, 56, of Clarksville, Tennessee, died
Wednesday, January 16, 2008, at Jackson Purchase Medical
Center in Mayfield, Kentucky. Funeral services for Mrs.
Crawford were held Saturday, January 19, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.
at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton, Kentucky. Burial
followed in Oak Grove Cemetery. Bro. Jimmy Brown officiated
the services.
Mrs. Crawford was born November 21, 1951 in Fulton, Kentucky.
She was raised in the Dukedom/Latham area and moved to
Houston, Texas in 1974. She worked as a court reporter while
in Houston and moved back to this area in 1999. Mrs.
Crawford was also a member of the Faith Outreach Church in
Houston. She was preceded in death by her father, Wilton
Holt, in 2000.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by her husband, Mike Crawford of
Clarksville; her mother, Margaret Wilds Holt of Dukedom; and
a sister, Tanya Walker and husband, Mike, of Madisonville,
Kentucky.
Ruby Marie Moore
Ruby Marie Moore, 94, of Gleason, died Tuesday, January 15,
2008, at Hillview Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral services
for Mrs. Moore were held Friday, January 18, 2008, at 11:00
a.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial
followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Gleason. Rev. Dale Mathis
officiated the services.
Mrs. Moore was a homemaker and a member of the First
Christian Church in Gleason. She was born August 10, 1913 in
Eva, Tennessee to the late David and Annie Arnold Melton. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Moore was also preceded in
death by her husband, Wallace Moore.
Mrs. Moore is survived by a daughter, Bernice Moore of
Gleason; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and
two great-great-grandchildren.
Victoria Ary Willis
Victoria Ary Willis, 94, of Martin, died Monday, January 14,

Mrs. Willis was a retired nurse at Volunteer Community
Hospital. She was born November 16, 1913 in Perry County,
Tennessee to the late Riley Ary and Emma Sharp Ary. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Willis was also preceded in
death by her husband, Pleasie B. Willis.
Mrs. Willis is survived by a daughter, Hazel Lorraine Lee of
Martin; three sons, Charles (Noreta) Willis of Opp, Alabama,
Clayton (Linda) Willis of Acworth, Georgia, and Wayne (Judy)
Willis of Nashville; a brother, Kyle (Elsie) Ary of Martin;
a sister, Williedean Bradford of Nashville; thirteen
grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; and six
great-great-grandchildren.
Virginia Smith Fielder
Virginia Smith Fielder, 85, of Martin, died Sunday, January
20, 2008, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Graveside
services for Mrs. Fielder were held Friday, January 25,
2008, at 11:00 a.m. at East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev.
Roger Lipe officiated the services.
Mrs. Fielder formerly worked at P&S Drug Store and was a
member of Central Baptist Church. She was born April 5, 1922
in Martin to the late Dock Wheeler Smith and Pauline Finney
Smith Jones. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fielder was
also preceded in death by her husband, Tyrus Fielder.
Mrs. Fielder is survived by a brother, Bill Smith of Canton,
Mississippi.
