Alice Eleanor Judy
Alice Eleanor Judy, 88, of Sharon, died Thursday, February
21, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Ms. Judy were held Sunday, February 24, 2008,
at 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Methodist Church. Burial followed in
Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Holmes officiated the
services.
Ms. Judy was a homemaker and a member of the Christian
Women's Club and the UMW. She was born August 20, 1919 in
Gibson County.
Ms. Judy is survived by two daughters, Linda (Roger) Chute of
Brownsville, Tennessee, and Brenda (James) Whitehead of
Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a sister, Marie (James) Croom of
Sharon; a brother, Gentry (Gladys) Landrum of Sharon; six
grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Billie Elizabeth Atchison Fuller
Billie Elizabeth Atchison Fuller, 84, of Martin, died Sunday,
February 24, 2008, at Jackson-Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Fuller were held
Tuesday, February 26, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at First United
Methodist Church. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in
Martin. Rev. Bill Tate officiated the services.
Mrs. Fuller was a homemaker and a member of First United
Methodist Church. She was a 1942 graduate of Fairview High
School. Mrs. Fuller was born December 11, 1923 in Lavinia,
Tennessee to the late Cecil A. Atchison and Mary Smith Adams
Atchison. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Fuller was also
preceded in death by her husband, W.D. (Dud) Fuller.
Mrs. Fuller is survived by a son, Doug Fuller of Martin; a
daughter, Donna Webb of Martin; and two sisters, Betty
Rowlett of Medina, and Dorothy Yates of Cleveland, Ohio.
Harry D. "Bill" Butts
Harry D. "Bill" Butts, 100, of Dresden, died Wednesday,
February 20, 2008, at Weakley County Rehabilitation and
Nursing Center in Dresden. Funeral services for Mr. Butts
were held Saturday, February 23, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in
Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. E. Claude Gardner and Max
Speight officiated the services.
Mr. Butts was a retired carpenter and a member of Southside
Church of Christ in Dresden. He was a native of Dresden and
the son of the late Harry J. and Mary Jane Hathcoat Butts.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Butts was also preceded in
death by his wife, Mary Killebrew Butts.
Mr. Butts is survived by two daughters, Jane (Paul) Chandler
of Dresden, and Shelby (Wayne) Jordan of Hernando, Florida;
a son, Billy Ray (Faye) Butts of Dresden; a sister,
Christine Blackburn of Trenton; eight grandchildren; ten
great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Herbert L. Morrison
Herbert L. Morrison, 85, of Memphis, died Sunday, February
17, 2008, at his residence. Services were held at 10:00
a.m., Tuesday, February 19, 2008, at Memorial Park North
Chapel in Memphis. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Morrison was born on September 19, 1922 in Weakley
County, son of the late Orvin M. and Lola Brown Morrison. He
was a member of Leawood Baptist Church, a Fifty-Year Mason,
and Past Master of Raleigh Lodge No. 770 A&FM. He was a
member of Memphis Scottish Rites, a WWII Army Veteran,
member of the Good Sam Camping Club and was retired from
Kimberly-Clark after thirty-eight years.
He leaves his wife of sixty-four years, Jean Morrison;
daughter, Jean Carolyn Kennedy; one son, Michael Morrison;
two sisters, Mary Wilson of Union City, and Judy Hazelwood
of the Chestnut Glade Community; two brothers, Dean Morrison
of McConnell, and Billy Morrison of Martin; three
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
James Howard Crain, Sr.
James Howard Crain, Sr., 90, of Martin, died Wednesday,
February 13, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Crain were held Saturday,
February 16, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in
Martin. Burial followed in Pleasantview Memorial Garden in
Fulton, Kentucky. Rev. Richard Moulton officiated the
services.
Mr. Crain was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. as a
security guard. He was a member of Millington Baptist Church
in Millington, Michigan and attended Southside Baptist
Church in Martin. Mr. Crain was born May 23, 1917 in
Bandana, Kentucky to the late Dean Crain and Lillian Booker
Crain. In addition to his parents, Mr. Crain was also
preceded in death by his wife, Loreana Hankins Crain; and a
son, Carl Dean Crain.
Mr. Crain is survived by two sons, James H. Crain, Jr.
(Linda) of Vassar, Michigan, and Donald I. Crain of Martin;
a daughter, Beverly Hilley (David) of Calhoune, Georgia; two
brothers, Bob Crain of California, and Ed Crain of Michigan;
and four sisters, Yvonne Coffey of Rantoul, Illinois,
Rebecca Crain of California, Mary Arivett of Kennesaw,
Georgia, and Dorothy Stevens of LaCenter, Kentucky.
Mildred Faye Kelley
Mildred Faye Kelley, 78, of Dresden, died Monday, February
18, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Miss Kelley were held Wednesday, February 20,
2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Grove Hill Cemetery near Dresden. Dr.
Dale Mathis and Rev. Eugene Burkeen officiated the services.
Miss Kelley was a retired employee of Bay-Bee Shoe Company.
She was a member of Grove Hill Methodist Church and also a
member of the Dresden High School Class of 1947. Miss Kelley
was born in Dresden to the late Cleatus and Relma Wright
Kelley.
Miss Kelley is survived by a brother, Jerry Kelley of
Dresden; a niece, Beckey Darden of Dresden; and two
great-nieces, Stacey Darden and Lacey Darden, both of
Dresden.
Nanette Edwards
Nanette Edwards, 72, of Memphis, died Monday, February 18,
2008, at her residence. Graveside services were held
Thursday, February 21, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park
Cemetery with Father Russell Harbaugh officiating.
Miss Edwards was retired from the U.S. Air Force and from the
Naval Hospital in Millington. She was a member of the
Gleason United Methodist Church and also a member of the
Rebounders Club.
She leaves one brother, Harry Edwards of Greenfield; special
friend, Mickey Granger of Jackson; and several nieces and
nephews.
Patsy McMinn Leonard
Patsy McMinn Leonard, 56, of Martin, died Monday, February
18, 2008, at Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, Kentucky. Funeral
services for Mrs. Leonard were held Friday, February 22,
2008, at 11:00 a.m. at New Home Baptist Church. Burial
followed in Cates Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Scott Chadwick,
Rev. Fady Al Hagal, and Rev. Shawn Winstead officiated the
services.
Mrs. Leonard worked for the grounds crew at the University of
Tennessee at Martin and was a member of New Home Baptist
Church. She was born June 13, 1951 to the late Hubert H.
McMinn and Elwanda Wade McMinn.
Mrs. Leonard is survived by her husband, Mr. Gene Leonard of
Martin; a son, Jim Leonard of Nashville; a daughter,
Jennifer Morris of Milan; and two brothers, Larry McMinn of
Martin, and Phillip McMinn of Martin.
