Claudie Gene Allen
Claudie Gene Allen, 75, of Bradford, died Wednesday, November
26, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Allen were held
Sunday, November 30, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home
Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Gleason.
Bro. Kenneth Price officiated the services.
Mr. Allen was an evangelist pastor and a veteran of the
Korean War. He was born May 11, 1933 in Bradford. Mr. Allen was
preceded in death by his father, Claude Allen.
Mr. Allen is survived by his wife, Mary Hall Allen; his
mother, Frances (Crowe) Allen; a brother, Glen Allen of Gleason; and
a sister, Martha Petty of McKenzie.
Emily Fussell Cavin
Emily Fussell Cavin, 80, of Martin, died Saturday,
November 29, 2008, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cavin were held Tuesday, December 2, 2008,
at 2:00 p.m. at Freeman's Chapel United Methodist Church. Burial
followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Terry English, Rev.
Susan Varner, and Rev. Scott Jewell officiated the services.
Mrs. Cavin was respectively called the "Cake Lady" and was a
member of Freeman's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was born
April 2, 1928 in Dickson County, Tennessee to the late Elbert
Fussell and Mary Brown Fussell. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Cavin was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Cavin; and a
great-grandson, Thomas Blake Croom.
Mrs. Cavin is survived by a daughter, Brenda Croom of Dyer;
three brothers, Murray Fussell of Dickson, David Fussell of Dickson,
and Lonnie Fussell of Oak Ridge; a sister, Hazel Peters of Dickson;
four grandchildren, Tracy Jones of Houston, Texas, David Croom of
Dyer, Michael Croom of Dyer, and Brent Croom of Dyer; and ten
great-grandchildren.
James Everett Croom
James Everett Croom, 81, of Sharon, died Thursday, November
27, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee. Funeral
services for Mr. Croom were held Sunday, November 30, 2008, at 2:00
p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Sharon with burial following in
the Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mr. Croom was born in Gibson County on December 26, 1926. He
began his trucking career as a driver for Argo-Collier, became a
salesman for Watkins Motor Lines Co. and was then co-owner of Jones
& English Trucking Co. of Sharon. At the time of his retirement, he
was in the dairy business with his oldest son, Ronnie.
Mr. Croom is survived by his wife, Marie Landrum Croom; three
sons, Ronnie (Brenda) Croom of Dyer, Joe (Deica) Croom of Martin,
and Jimmy (Diane) Croom of Greenfield; two sisters, Joann King of
Trenton, and Nancy Williams of Middleton; ten grandchildren; and
twelve great-grandchildren.
Jessie M. Schmitz
Jessie M. Schmitz, 92, of Greenfield, died Monday, November
24, 2008, at McKenzie Medical Center. Funeral services for Mr.
Schmitz were held Friday, November 28, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at
Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial followed in
Bradford City Cemetery in Bradford. Clyde Rose officiated the
services.
Mr. Schmitz was a master electrician for IBEW of Texas and
attended the Assembly of God Church in Trenton. He was born January
10, 1916 in Water Valley, Mississippi to the late Jessie L. Schmitz
and Josie Tindall. In addition to his parents, Mr. Schmitz was also
preceded in death by his wife, Allie B. Schmitz.
Mr. Schmitz is survived by a daughter, Judy Darlene (Schmitz)
Moore of Kingwood, Texas; three sisters, Mrs. Jewel Edwards of Water
Valley, Mississippi, Ruth Ladd of Memphis, and Ruby Niblett of
Jackson, Mississippi; and three grandchildren, Joy Moore of
Nacodoches, Texas, Marc Moore of Kingwood, Texas, and Melody Moore
of San Francisco, California.
Jo Ann Fuqua
Jo Ann Fuqua, 78, of Martin, died Thursday, November 27,
2008, at Jackson Madison County Hospital in Jackson. Funeral
services for Ms. Fuqua were held Monday, December 1, 2008, at 11:00
a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in
Eastside Cemetery in Martin. Bro. Eddie Hutchens officiated the
services.
Ms. Fuqua attended Martin Church of Christ. She was born
August 14, 1930 in Little Rock, Arkansas to the late Joe F. Fuqua
and Vera L. Huffman.
Ms. Fuqua is survived by three sisters, Jerri Lynn Benderman
of Martin, Mary Margaret Avery of Bartlett, and Bonnie Adercrombie
of Memphis; four nieces, Leigh Ann Hart of Dresden, Randa Bush of
Evansville, Indiana, Stephanie Smith of Nashville, and Stacy Nash of
Arizona; two nephews, Paul Avery of Memphis, and Trey Smith of
Paducah, Kentucky; and many great-nieces and nephews.
Joseph B. (Joey) Ross
Joseph B. (Joey) Ross, 46, of Martin, died Tuesday, November
25, 2008, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Ross were held
Saturday, November 29, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church.
Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Roger Lipe and
Rev. Roger McPeak officiated the services.
Mr. Ross worked for Ross & Sons Merchandise and was a member
of Central Baptist Church. He was a graduate of Westview High School
and a member of the Martin Masonic Lodge #551. Mr. Ross was born
July 29, 1962 in Union City. He was preceded in death by his father,
James A. Ross.
Mr. Ross is survived by his wife, Mrs. Valerie Harris Ross of
Martin; a son, Alex Ross of Martin; a daughter, Chesney Ross of
Martin; his mother, Mrs. Imogene Roberson Ross of Martin; and a
brother, Steve Ross of Martin.
Kenneth Von Hensley
Kenneth Von Hensley, 61, died Wednesday, November 26, 2008,
in McKenzie. Funeral services were held Saturday, November 29, 2008,
at Brummitt Funeral Home in McKenzie with burial at Everett's Chapel
Cemetery in McKenzie.
Mr. Hensley was born February 20, 1947 in Kennett, Missouri
to the late Alford and Ruth Walker Hensley.
Mr. Hensley is survived by his wife, Wanda Dillinger Hensley
of Gleason; one daughter, Melissa Hensley of Gleason; two sisters,
Brenda Sue Cross and Rebecca Waychoff, both of St. Charles,
Missouri; two brothers, Robert G. Hensley and Jerry L. Hensley, both
of St. Charles, Missouri; and one granddaughter, Shelby Lee Hensley.
Lou Nell Hancock
Lou Nell Hancock, 88, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, November
19, 2008, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Center in Martin. Funeral
services for Ms. Hancock were held Saturday, November 22, 2008, at
2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in
Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield. Wayne Perkins officiated the
services.
Ms. Hancock was a barmaid and attended Bethel Baptist Church.
She was born April 12, 1920 in Greenfield to the late Clay Baker and
Alta Mooney.
Ms. Hancock is survived by a daughter, Virginia Godwin of
Greenfield; and two sisters, Edna Floyd of Greenfield, and Helen
Gammons of Martin.
May Ardell Mansfield
May Ardell Mansfield, 80, of Palmersville, died Monday,
November 24, 2008, at Weakley County Rehabilitation and Nursing
Center in Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Mansfield were held
Wednesday, November 26, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Mack's Grove Cemetery near
Dresden. Bro. Bob Conley and Bro. Kieth Dublin officiated the
services.
Mrs. Mansfield was a housewife and a member of Palmersville
Baptist Church. She was born in Weakley County to the late Brownloe
and Zelm Bynum Eaves. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Mansfield was
also preceded in death by her husband, Mitchell Britt Mansfield.
Mrs. Mansfield is survived by a sister, Frances Parker of
Martin; three brothers, Edsel Eaves of Las Vegas, Nevada, Gary
Workman of Lombard, Illinois, and Robert McAlpin of Dresden; and
several nieces and nephews.
Norris Dame
Norris Dame, 88, of South Fulton, died Wednesday, November
26, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. Dame were held Saturday, November 29, 2008, at
11:00 a.m. at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial followed in
Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Rev. James Lawson and Rev. David Bayer
officiated the services.
Mr. Dame was a member of the Fulton Cumberland Presbyterian
Church in South Fulton. He was an electrician for the Illinois
Central Railroad. He was also a member of the Robert's Masonic Lodge
#172 in Fulton and the Shriner's Club. Mr. Dame was born March 8,
1920 in Brighton, Tennessee to the late John Hudson and Jimmie Lee
(Webb) Dame. In addition to his parents, Mr. Dame was also preceded
in death by a stepson, Lloyd Edward Jones; a brother, John Dame,
Jr.; and one grandchild.
Mr. Dame is survived by his wife, Novella Dame of South
Fulton; a son, Tom C. Dane of Cotter, Arkansas; a daughter, Nancy
Lee Moore of Mountain Home, Arkansas; a stepson, Ronnie Lee Jones of
Martin; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Wanda Jane Clement
Wanda Jane Clement, 82, of McKenzie, died Thursday, November
27, 2008, at Regional Medical Center in Memphis. Graveside services
for Mrs. Clement will be held Sunday, December 7, 2008, at 2:00 p.m.
at Carroll Memorial Gardens in McKenzie. Brother Jim Roberts will
officiate the services.
Mrs. Clement was a retired factory worker for Wilker Brothers
and was a member of the McKenzie Church of Christ. She was born
November 10, 1926 in Mayfield, Kentucky to the late Ed Forester and
Myrtle (Ray) Forester. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Clement was
also preceded in death by her husband, whom she married January 10,
1948, Fred Clement, Jr.; and a brother, Ray Forester.
Mrs. Clement is survived by four sisters-in-law, Betty
Clement of Knoxville, Nadine Clement of Huntingdon, Betty Ellinor of
Jackson, and Gloria Lott of Bartlett; nephew and caretaker, Eddie
(Debra) Minga of Gleason; and several other nieces and nephews.
