Audrey M. Franklin
Audrey M. Franklin, 82, of Greenfield, died Thursday,
December 4, 2008, in Greenfield. Funeral services for Mrs. Franklin
were held Sunday, December 7, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral
Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial followed in Morris Cemetery in
Greenfield. Doug Powell, Randy Potts, and Jerry Powell officiated
the services.
Mrs. Franklin was a homemaker and a nurse. She attended
Bethlehem Baptist Church. Mrs. Franklin was born January 2, 1926 in
Rutherford to the late Earnest Leyhue and Velma Leyhue. In addition
to her parents, Mrs. Franklin was also preceded in death by two
brothers, Leroy Leyhue and Paul Leyhue; two sisters, Ruth Leyhue and
Elsie Pentecost; and two grandchildren, Sherry Jo Campbell and Roger
Brasure.
Mrs. Franklin is survived by her husband, Richard H. Franklin
of Greenfield; two sons, Richard Wayne Franklin of Martin, and
Donald Franklin of Greenfield; a daughter, Barbara (Franklin)
Brasure of Greenfield; two sisters, Florette Mabry of Greenfield,
and Shirley Sanders of Greenfield; a brother, Donald Leyhue of
Greenfield; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and
six great-great-grandchildren. Charles Roy
Pinkelton
Charles Roy Pinkelton, 63, of Martin, died Sunday, December
7, 2008, at Martin Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Funeral
services for Mr. Pinkelton will be held Wednesday, December 10,
2008, at 12:00 noon at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will
follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. David Brown will
officiate the services.
Mr. Pinkelton was a retired electrician for Journeyman Inside
Wireman IBEW #602 and a veteran of the United States Army. He was a
member of the First Baptist Church and a graduate of Martin High
School and the University of Tennessee at Martin. Mr. Pinkelton was
born June 27, 1945 in Murray, Kentucky to the late John Mark
Pinkelton and Birtie Mae Sandlin Pinkelton.
Mr. Pinkelton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Daisy (Katie)
Staggs Pinkelton of Martin; three stepdaughters, Tammy Parsons of
Martin, Angela Ingalls of Dresden, and Rhonda Johns of Lawrenceburg,
Tennessee; and a brother, Marcus Ray Pinkelton of Columbia,
Tennessee. Charles M. Winstead
Charles M. Winstead, 76, of Martin, died Saturday, December
6, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mr. Winstead were held Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 12:00 noon
at Pisgah United Methodist Church. Burial followed in Pisgah
Cemetery in Dresden. Rev. H. B. Fields officiated the services.
Mr. Winstead was an office manager for International
Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (I.B.E.W.) and a member of Pisgah
United Methodist Church. He was born June 11, 1932 in Weakley County
to the late Ellis Lee Winstead and Millie Bushart Winstead. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Winstead was also preceded in death by
his wife, Valma Abernathy Winstead.
Mr. Winstead is survived by a daughter, Angie Hooper of
Martin; a son, Kenny Winstead of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; a stepson,
Lamar Woodruff of Bartlett, Tennessee; a stepbrother, Carthel
Wheeler of Dresden; a sister, Rachel Winstead of Dresden; five
grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
Elizabeth Evelyn Woodard
Elizabeth Evelyn Woodard, 93, died December 7, 2008, at her
home in Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Woodard were held
Tuesday, December 9, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Olive Branch Cemetery between
Como and Cottage Grove. Rev. Billy Ross officiated the services.
Mrs. Woodard was born July 1, 1915 in Gleason. She was the
daughter of Arvin Winstead Tucker and Gertrude Irene Russell Tucker,
both deceased. She was married to Gerald Gradley Woodard on December
9, 1939. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1968. Mrs. Woodard
was a homemaker and a member of Thompson Creek Baptist Church of
Como.
Mrs. Woodard is survived by three daughters, Linda (Ray)
Chandler of Puryear, Janice Wolfe of Milan, and Carolyn (Ned) Parker
of Englewood, Florida; three sons, Joe (Brenda) Woodard of Camden,
Norman (Jo) Woodard of Palmersville, and Terry (Brenda) Woodard of
Dresden; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Tucker of McKenzie; seven
grandchildren, Shawn Woodard of Ocala, Florida, Blaine Woodard of
Camden, Brad Woodard of Paducah, Brandon Wolfe of Charlotte, North
Carolina, Teresa (Carey) Romoser of Simpsonville, South Carolina,
Eric Chandler of Nashville, and Blake (Kelli) Chandler of Paris;
nine great-grandchildren, Joshua, Daniel and Caroline Romoser,
Kinsley, Cooper and Collier Chandler, Justin and Venessa Woodard,
and Jessica Wolfe; two step-granddaughters, Patricia Potter and
Joanna Potter; one step-great-grandson, Will Potter.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Dudley Tucker;
and one grandson, Jason Woodard. James M.
Blackmon Jr.
James M. Blackmon Jr., 51, of Grand Rivers, Kentucky, died
Tuesday, November 25, 2008. A memorial services for Mr. Blackmon was
held Monday, December 1, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at Friendship Baptist
Church in Smithland, Kentucky.
Mr. Blackmon was a veteran of the U.S. Army and worked for
many years as a restaurant owner and Chef. He was preceded in death
by his parents, James Sr. and Gussie Blackmon of Dresden; and
sister, Shirley Coursen.
Mr. Blackmon is survived by his wife, Donna of Grand Rivers,
Kentucky; a son, James Blackmon III (Debra) of Humansville,
Missouri; three daughters, Tammy, Kelly and Samantha Blackmon; six
grandchildren; four brothers, Jimmy Jarrett (Donna) of Christopher,
Illinois, Billy Blackmon (Christine) of Newnan, Georgia, David
Blackmon (Deirdre) of Palmetto, Florida, and Phillip Blackmon of
Dresden; four nephews; and seven nieces.
Joseph Travis "Joe" Davis
Joseph Travis "Joe" Davis, 60, of Palmersville, died
Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Methodist University Hospital in
Memphis. Funeral services for Mr. Davis were held Saturday, December
6, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at New Salem Missionary Baptist Church in the
Austin Springs Community. Burial followed in Little Zion Cemetery in
Palmersville. Bro. Larry Clark, Bro. Rick Walker and Mark French
officiated the services.
Mr. Davis was a general foreman for Tecumseh Corp. in Paris.
He was a member of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church, where he
served as Chairman of the Deacons. Mr. Davis was a native of
Palmersville, born to the late Eugene Brooks and Ruth Hodges Davis.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was also preceded in death by
a sister, Lou Jean Davis; and a brother, John Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Mrs. Faye McClain Davis of
Palmersville; two sons, Stephen "Craig" Davis and fiance' Donna
Jones of Jackson, and Christopher Michael "Mike" (Michelle) Davis of
Palmersville; and three grandchildren, Alex, Zack and Falynn Davis.
Leslie B. Tarver
Leslie B. Tarver, 86, of Martin, died Sunday, December 7,
2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mr. Tarver will be held Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at 2:00
p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will follow in Harmony
Cemetery in Fulton. Rev. Bill Tate will officiate the services.
Mr. Tarver was retired from T.V.A. and was also a retired
farmer. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Mr.
Tarver was born June 23, 1922 in the Harmony Community, near Fulton,
to the late A.W. Tarver and Mamie Hudson Tarver. In addition to his
parents, Mr. Tarver was also preceded in death by a daughter, Pam
Brandon; and a sister, Beatrice Little.
Mr. Tarver is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Belle Campbell
Tarver of Martin; a son, Ralph Tarver of Martin; four grandchildren,
Kirk Brandon, Kelly Parks, Brandi Tarver Woodruff, and Patrick
Tarver; and seven great-grandchildren.
Nelwyn T. Porter
Nelwyn T. Porter, 92, of Hayti, formerly of Greenfield, died
Monday, December 1, 2008, at Pemiscot Memorial Nursing Home in Hayti,
Missouri. Graveside services for Mrs. Porter were held Friday,
December 5, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery in Greenfield.
Mrs. Porter was a member of the United Methodist Women's
Association in Greenfield and the Women's Medical Auxiliary in
Weakley County. She was born March 17, 1916 in Medina. Mrs. Porter
was united in marriage in Medina in 1940 to Ira Ford Porter, who
preceded her in death in 1990. Also preceding her in death were her
parents, Una (McAdoo) Todd and Cary Todd; and a brother, Edwin Todd.
Mrs. Porter is survived by a son, Dr. Todd (Jane) Porter of
Irving, Texas; two daughters, Janna (Gary) Raney of Portageville,
Missouri, and Nan (Johnny Butler) Porter of Memphis; a sister,
Lucille Allen of Milan; two grandchildren, Ryan (Erica) Raney of
Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and Carry (Tonya Matheson) Porter of
Bastrop, Texas; and one great-grandchild, Morgan Spiers.
Nolie Rutkowski
Nolie Rutkowski, 67, of Dresden, died Friday, November 21,
2008, at her residence. Funeral services for Mrs. Rutkowski were
held Saturday, November 22, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. at Ridgely Chapel of
Curry Funeral Home in Dyersburg. Interment followed in New Haven
Cemetery in Ridgely. Brother Jimmy Goodman officiated the services.
Mrs. Rutkowski was a homemaker and a member of Dew Drop
Independent Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Anthony Rutkowski; her parents, Grover C. and Irene Dick
Goodman; a sister, Betty Johnson; and a brother, Elton Goodman.
Mrs. Rutkowski is survived by a daughter, Crystal Burton
Brewer of Dresden; a son, Danny Wallace Burton of Dresden; seven
sisters, Peggy Smith of Ridgely, Shirley Hall of Winchester, Yvone
Mealer of Brownsville, Dian Hall of Winchester, Earline Blair of
Wynnburg, Darlene Hollandsworth of Ridgely, and Rachel Dial of
Ridgely; two brothers, Danny Goodman of Ridgely, and Jimmy Goodman
of Wynnburg; four grandchildren, Danny Burton, Jr., Eric Burton,
Cassie Brewer, and Gage Brewer; and twenty nieces and nephews.
Peggy G. Midyett
Peggy G. Midyett, 66, of South Fulton, died Friday, December
5, 2008, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mrs. Midyett were held Monday, December 8, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at
Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton, Kentucky. Burial followed in
Sandy Branch Cemetery in Weakley County. Rev. Dale True officiated
the services.
Mrs. Midyett was a member of the McConnell Baptist Church and
was a former waitress for the Whistlin' Pig Restaurant and several
others in the area. She was born December 26, 1941 in Fulton,
Kentucky to the late Wilsie (Webb) and Willard Brasure. She lived in
this area all of her life. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Midyett
was also preceded in death by two brothers, Jerry Brasure and Bobby
Brasure.
Mrs. Midyett is survived by her husband, Larry Midyett of
South Fulton; a daughter and son-in-law, Teresa Boane (Kerry) of
Gleason, a son, Anthony Prince of Martin; two brothers, Jimmie
Brasure of South Fulton, and Earl Dean Brasure of Greenfield; two
sisters, Shirley Crittendon of Martin, and Joyce Kwasney of Port
Charlotte, Florida; and six grandchildren.
Robert L. Fowler
Robert L. Fowler, 59, a frequent visitor of Dresden, died
Monday, December 1, 2008. He was a resident of Eaton Rapids,
Michigan, was born October 19, 1949 to Chesley Wayne and Lucy Belle
(Tucker) Fowler. He was a Marine veteran and served in the Vietnam
War.
He is survived by his wife, Wende, of 34 years; two sons,
Domenic (Sara) Fowler and Jeffrey (Jodie) Fowler; two
granddaughters, Melanie and Keira Fowler, all of Eaton Rapids; one
brother, Ken (Marge) Fowler of Columbus, Ohio; a special friend of
the family, Dave Smith of Marquette, Michigan; special aunts, Jane
Tucker, Dresden, Evelyn Fowler, Florida; one uncle, Buddy Tucker,
Charlotte, North Carolina; special cousins, Beverly Woodruff and
Janet Lustik.
Mr. Fowler retired from AGA Gas, Inc. in 2004.
A memorial services was held on Saturday, December 6, 2008.
Arrangements were by Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids.
Sue Ann Sullivan
Sue Ann Sullivan, 88, of Tupelo, Mississippi, died Wednesday,
December 3, 2008, at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Graveside
services for Ms. Sullivan were held Saturday, December 6, 2008, at
11:00 a.m. at Highland Cemetery in Greenfield. Judd Mowry officiated
the services.
Ms. Sullivan was a housewife and attended the United
Methodist Church in Greenfield. She was born November 20, 1920 in
Clovis, New Mexico to the late Rommie Jones and Ada Hendrix.
Ms. Sullivan is survived by two sons, Steve Sullivan of
Marion, Arkansas, and Craig Sullivan of Omaha, Nebraska; a sister,
Mary Bell Teasley of Tupelo, Mississippi; and two grandchildren.
Virgin L. Workman
Virgin L. Workman, 90, of Martin, died Thursday, December 4,
2008, at Martin Health Care and Rehab in Martin. Funeral services
for Mr. Workman were held Saturday, December 6, 2008, at 11:00 a.m.
at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in
Blooming Grove Cemetery in Palmersville. Bro. Doug Morris officiated
the services.
Mr. Workman was a retired custodial supervisor for UTM and
was a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Blooming Grove
Primitive Baptist Church in Palmersville. Mr. Workman was born in
Palmersville to the late Chester and Eula Palestine Perry Workman.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Workman was also preceded in death
by two wives, Pauline Webb Workman and Hazel Wilson Spencer Workman;
a son, Jimmy Workman; and three brothers, Mason, Charles and Bill
Workman.
Mr. Workman is survived by two daughters, Eula Parks of
Martin, and Paula Turbeville of Martin; a stepdaughter, Joyce Morris
of Dresden; a stepson, David Spencer of Martin; three sisters,
Hallie Finley of Dresden, Sue Foley of Palmersville, and Mabel
Gatewood of Atlanta, Georgia; a half-brother, Edsel Workman of
Chicago, Illinois; adopted brother, Gary Eaves of Chicago, Illinois;
four grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren and thirteen step-great-grandchildren.
William A. (Bill) Dillon, Ph.D.
William A. (Bill) Dillon, Ph.D., 75, of Martin, died
Thursday, December 4, 2008, at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral
services for Mr. Dillon were held Monday, December 8, 2008, at 1:00
p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side
Cemetery in Martin. Rev. John Fairless and Rev. Dwayne Maxey
officiated the services.
Mr. Dillon was a retired professor of biology at the
University of Tennessee at Martin. He was a veteran of the United
States Air Force having served in Korea and retired from the
Tennessee Army National Guard. He received his graduate degree from
Texas Christian University, his master's degree from William and
Mary Virginia Institute of Marine Science and his doctor's degree
from the University of Southern Mississippi. Mr. Dillon was also a
member of the American Legion Post #55 and Eastside Baptist Church
in Martin. He was born October 4, 1933 in Grayson, Kentucky to the
late Charles Lindsey Dillon and Goldie Suttles Dillon.
Mr. Dillon is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margie Fincher
Dillon of Martin; two sons, Douglas W. Dillon of St. Petersburg,
Florida, and Charles L. Dillon of Sharon; a daughter, Sheila Marie
Fairless of Gainesville, Florida; friend and caregiver, Brenda
Grogan of Sharon; and three grandchildren, William Fairless,
Christopher Fairless, and Kayla Fairless.
