Chargers score 35 points in second half for win |
Despite a slow start and surviving a scare at the end of the
first half, the Westview Chargers dominated the visiting
Golden Tornadoes of Union City 49-7, as the Chargers would
score five touchdowns in the second half to secure the win.
In the first half, both teams struggled on offense.
Midway into the first quarter, J.C. Griggs of the Chargers
fumbled the ball and was picked up by the Union City
defense. The Westview defense seemed to have the
Golden Tornado offense stalled by Union City converted a
first down with a 48-yard pass from Brent White to Pat Polk
on third down and 22. Three plays later, Union City
quarterback Brent White scored on a 13-yard scamper.
With the conversion, Union City led 7-0 with 3:58 remaining
in the first quarter.
The Chargers answered quickly with an 85-yard kickoff return
by Buddy Legens. With the kick by Hyuntae Kim, the
Chargers tied the score.
The Charger defense stood up to the challenge the next
series and forced a three and out and constantly backing up
the Golden Tornadoes. The Chargers gained the upper
hand the next series. With runs by Brian West, Griggs,
quarterback keepers by Harrison Moore and a pass to West,
the Chargers methodically advanced the line of scrimmage to
the Union City two-yard line. Griggs punched the ball
in and gave Westview the lead. With Kim's kick, the
Chargers led 14-7 with 10:39 remaining in the first half.

Gleason dominates Halls Tigers 38-13 for second win |
|
The Gleason Bulldogs got their second win of the season on
Friday night, as they traveled to Halls and handed the
hosting Tigers a 38-13 loss.
After the initial Halls drive which ended in a Tiger
turnover, the Bulldogs had their sights set on the end zone.
Starting near midfield, a 14-yard run by Zach Wallace got
the offense going. The Bulldogs steadily drove down
the field and Shadow Roney capped off the drive with a
two-yard touchdown run to make the score 6-0 with 5:21 left
in the opening quarter.
Gleason got on the board again later in the first frame.
A 60-yard run by Alex Verdell on the second play of the
Bulldog drive led to a six-yard run by Cody Ezell to make
the score 12-0 with 23 seconds left in the first frame.
The Bulldog offense made it to the end zone again late in
the first half. Again, it was a lengthy Verdell run
that set up a short touchdown score. This time, the
nine-play, 80-yard drive was capped by a two-yard Verdell
run to put the Bulldogs ahead 18-0 with three minutes left
in the half.

|
The McKenzie Rebels handed
Dresden its first loss of the 2007 season this past Friday
night, 42-0.
The Lions were playing without starting
quarterback Austin Evans during the McKenzie game due to an
injury suffered in the game the previous week against
Greenfield. Following Friday night's game, Evans said
that he is unsure when he will be able to return to action
and that he is scheduled to have a medical check-up this
next week to evaluate the leg injury that he received.

game against McKenzie.

to Trenton to play the Peabody Golden Tide. Trenton is
1-1 this season after winning in Week 0 against Lake County
and losing this past Friday night to Camden, 24-20.
This Friday night's game will be first Region 8-2A game for
both teams.
The Rebels set the tone early in the game
for their shutout win when McKenzie kicked to the Lions to
start the contest. Dresden's Clay Adams received the
kick-off at the Lions 10-yard line and ran it out to around
the 16, where he was hit by Rebel Leon Williams knocking the
ball loose. McKenzie's Tyler Watson recovered the
Dresden fumble to give the Rebels possession at the Lion's
14-yard line. On the first play from scrimmage,
McKenzie quarterback Derek Carr connected with wide receiver
Clint Kee to score the first touchdown of the game.
Harris Laughrey kicked the extra point to give the Rebels a
7-0 lead with only 15 seconds off the clock in the opening
