Dresden sweeps Gleason in middle school action

    With the county tournament approaching, the Lady Lions and Lions picked up some momentum as Dresden Middle School took a pair of wins from host Gleason on Monday night.

    The Lady Lions took a 27-16 win over the Lady Bulldogs while the Lions dominated Gleason 44-15 in boys action.

    After falling behind by four points early, the Lady Lions outscored Gleason 27-12 over the remainder of the game to get the win.

    Back-to-back buckets from Shauna Blassingame gave the Lady Bulldogs their only lead of the night as a jumper from Jessica Jones sparked an 8-0 run to end the first frame that was capped by four points from Alex Glisson to make the score 8-4 in Dresden's favor.

    The run continued into the second frame as free throws from Allie Phillips and a jumper from Kristen Childress put the Lady Lions ahead by eight.  Gleason cut the lead to four points after buckets from Hollie Townes and Blassingame, but Dresden got a jumper from Anna Stafford and a layup from Phillips to make the score 16-8 at the half.

Greenfield, WHS boys win in second night of Classic

    Three local teams took home wins on Saturday in the second night of the annual Thanksgiving Classic at Westview High School.

    Greenfield took home two wins as the Yellowjackets took a 54-30 win over Obion County Central while the Greenfield girls grabbed a 49-40 win over USJ.

    Westview's boys were also victorious, claiming a 93-77 win over Halls.  In girls action, Westview fell to Harpeth Hall 53-48.

    After a sluggish start, the Yellowjackets closed out the Thanksgiving Classic with a 24-point defeat of the Rebels for Greenfield's second win of the season.

Greenfield opens regular season with district split against Bradford

    Greenfield High School opened its 2007-08 season by earning a split with visiting Bradford last Tuesday night at home.  The 'Jackets jumped out to an early lead and held on for a 56-40 win while the Greenfield girls fell 79-57 to the Lady Red Devils in district action.

    The 'Jackets opened the game with a strong run then held on to grab a season-opening and district win on Tuesday night at home.

    Reggie McHaney sparked the opening run by the 'Jackets, hitting a trey that lead to a 12-2 run that he also capped with a three-point play.  Bradford cut the lead back to six points, but a later McHaney jumper made the score 14-6 at the end of one frame.
