South Fulton answered in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI single from Johnson to give the lead back to the home team at 2-1.

After stranding a runner at third in the top half of the third inning, the Lady Dawgs got back on the board in the top of the fourth. A leadoff single from Ashley Coble was followed by a triple from Breanna Wallace to plate her teammate. Wallace then scored on a Lacie Trevathan base hit to give Gleason a 3-2 advantage.

Greenfield tennis ends regular season 9-6

The Greenfield Lady ’Jacket tennis team wrapped up its second regular season with a hard-fought loss to Dyersburg last Tuesday to go into the district tournament with a 9-6 record.

Dyersburg 4, Greenfield 3

For their last match of the season last Tuesday, the Lady Jackets traveled to Dyersburg to take on the Lady Trojans, last year’s district champs.  Greenfield played the Dyersburg squad a good match, but came up one point shy of the upset losing a heartbreaker to Dyersburg by a 4-3 margin.  Greenfield’s three points came from 2 singles wins and one doubles win.

Lady ’Jackets Katie McCall at No. 1 singles and Mallory Robinson at No. 4 singles accounted for all 3 points as they each won their singles match and then teamed up to take the No. 1 doubles match.  McCall beat Molly Herman (D) 8-0 and Robinson beat Cameron Tipton (D) 8-3.  McCall/Robinson defeated Sarah and Shelly Epperson (D) in doubles 8-2.

Dyersburg took the No. 2 singles when Sarah Epperson defeated Summer Hoke (soph) (G) 8-2.  The match was closer than the score indicates with nearly every game going to deuce.  Number 3 for Greenfield, Taren Hatcher (junior) played a similar  match against her Dyersburg opponent, Shelly Epperson.  The games were all close but Epperson, the more experienced player, won more key points and the match 8-4.  Meagan Porter (G) (freshman) was tied with Lady Trojan, Amber Moody, 5 to 5 before Moody escaped in another close match 8-5.
