Eighth Annual Steve McCadams "Casting For A Cure" Kids Fishing Rodeo

The 8th Annual Steve McCadams "Casting For A Cure" Kids Fishing Rodeo returns to Carroll Lake on Saturday, June 2nd for a fun filled morning where even little fish bring on big smiles.

Young anglers ages 15 and under are invited to participate in the FREE event, which will benefit the American Cancer Society.  Each year, Steve teams up with the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency and the big event continues to grow in popularity each year.

More than 2,800 kids from five states have been introduced to the great sport of fishing since the rodeo's conception.

"I'm looking forward to another big rodeo and we've got more prizes than ever to offer the kids this year," said Steve McCadams, nationally known outdoorsman.  "Thanks to the help of TWRA, lots of volunteers and donations, the festivity will build some self-esteem in these future fishermen as they fight fish and cancer at the same time."

Participants are asked to arrive early and check-in at the registration tent where each contestant will receive a bag of goodies.  Pre-registration will be from 7:00-9:00 a.m. with the actual competition taking place from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Make the boating season a safe one

Traditionally, the Memorial Day weekend marks the official start of the boating season in Tennessee.  For many, this will be the first time to have the boat in the water.  So far this year, there have been 32 boating accidents reported with 4 fatalities.  The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) urges all Tennessee boaters to take a few minutes to review the basics, which may be the key to having a fun, safe day on the water.

TWRA wants to remind all boaters to:

* Have a wearable life jacket for every person onboard.

* If your boat is 16 feet or longer, there must be a type IV throwable device onboard.

* Have onboard a fire extinguisher if you have enclosed fuel compartments or cabins.
