Hudson shines in Golden Circle All-Star Game |
Gleason's Kayla Hudson, 2007 Class A Miss Basketball and Union University signee, showed why she was one of the most decorated players in West Tennessee this past season, as she scored 21 points on Saturday night, earning Most Valuable Player honors in the annual Golden Circle All-Star Game at Liberty High School in Jackson. After trailing by as many as eight points early in the first half, the North rallied to take its first lead of the game at 34-32 on a Katie Henderson jumper with three minutes left before halftime. South Side's Kayla Merriweather scored the South's final five points of the first half as the North faced a 41-39 halftime deficit. The lead changed hands five times early in the second half before the North took control down the stretch.

Bethel College names Male and Female Athletes of the Year for 2006-07 |

Bethel College has named their male and female athletes of the 2006-2007 year. Malang Jarju a member of the men's Wildcat soccer team from Banjul, Gambia and Leah O'Grady from Mt. Pearl, Newfoundland, Canada, who played on the Lady Wildcats soccer team were named the male and female athletes respectively. Jarju who had the distinction of having his jersey retired after his senior season, helped the Wildcats capture the 2006 TranSouth Conference Tournament Championship this past year. Jarju owns all but one of Bethel's offensive records. He is the career leader in points with 156, goals 56 and assists with 44. UT Martin Rifle teams signs 2007 Tennessee Junior Olympic Champion |

UT-Martin rifle coach Bob Beard announced he signed the 2007 Tennessee Junior Olympic three-position air rifle champion, Kaitlin Chaffin, to a scholarship recently. Chaffin helped lead Siegel High School in Murfreesboro to the team championship at Fort Benning, Georgia. She was named to the 2006-2007 Tennessee High School All-State rifle team. She is a top honors student and will attend Tennessee-Martin on a combination of academic and athletic scholarships. (Read the rest of this story in the June 6th edition of the Dresden Enterprise!) |
