After 23 years in the coaching profession - most of which
was spent in Dresden, Dresden High School head coach Craig
Rogers resigned recently, opting to spend more time with his
family.
Rogers also added that he may seek an administrative
position.
"It was a decision to spend more time with my family,"
Rogers said. "My plans are to continue teaching at
Dresden."
"We appreciate all the hard work and contributions Craig has
made to Dresden High School," Dresden High School principal
Chuck West said. "We wish him the best in his future
endeavors."
Greenfield native Eric Knott, who spent the last three
seasons as an assistant at Camden, was hired on Friday to
succeed Rogers. With a lack of teaching positions open
at Dresden High School, the school had to wait until a job
opened up before they could hire a new football coach.

In what has been an active offseason for
coaching changes, longtime Dresden Middle School basketball
coach, Mike Riggs, resigned on June 15 to become the
assistant principal at Greenfield High School. Riggs
will also coach high school baseball for the Yellowjackets,
replacing Jason Rodehaver, who will focus solely on leading
the Greenfield football program.
"I'm excited about the new opportunity," Riggs said.
"I look forward to working with the staff, students and
Greenfield community."
From his days as an athlete with the Lions, Riggs spent his
entire career in Dresden.
After playing baseball and basketball from 1981-1985 for the
Dresden Lions, Riggs made his coaching debut in 1994 when he
was hired as the football and girls' basketball coach for
Dresden Junior High. (Read the rest of this story in the

NCAA announces certification decision for UT-Martin |
|
The
NCAA Division I Committee on Athletics Certification
announced its decision today to certify Tennessee-Martin, a
Division I member institution.
Tennessee-Martin recently completed the association's second
cycle of athletics certification. A designation of
certified means that an institution operates its athletics
program in substantial conformity with operating principles
adopted by the Division I membership.
"NCAA Certification represents an affirmation of the
integrity of our intercollegiate athletics program," said
Dr. Nell Gullett, the university's faculty athletics
representative. "The UT Martin athletics staff,
coaches, and student-athletes are to be congratulated on
this significant recognition." (Read the rest of this story in the July
