Westview's Moore finishes as finalist for Mr. Football

    Westview quarterback Harrison Moore, a senior, finished the balloting for the 2007 Class 2A Mr. Football Back of the Year as a finalist as the winners were announced at the Nashville Airport Marriott Hotel on Monday.

    Randall Cobb, from Alcoa, took home the Class 2A Back of the Year honors.

    Moore had 1,929 all-purpose yards during the regular season, Moore scored 17 touchdowns and also had 92 tackles and four interceptions on the defensive side of the ball.

    A committee of statewide sports writers selected winners based on performance in the 2007 regular season.  Academics and character were also taken into consideration.  High school head coaches and members of the media nominated the finalists.

Dresden girls dominate South Fulton for third district win

    The Dresden Lady Lions kept up their winning ways in District 14-A, taking a dominating 38-17 win over the Devilettes on Friday night in South Fulton.  But, in boys action, the Red Devils upset the Lions for a 44-39 victory.

    Sparked by a dominating first half performance, the Lady Lions won their third district game in a row, taking a 21-point win over South Fulton.

    Treys from Lacie Kelley and Erica Glisson were the backbone of an 8-0 run by the Lady Lions to open the game.  After a pair of tallies cut the lead in half, Courtney McMillin got a pair of free throws and Glisson added another trey to give the Lady Lions a 13-4 lead at the end of the first frame.

Greenfield sweeps past Sharon in county middle school slate

    Both the Greenfield Junior High Yellowjackets and Lady 'Jackets picked up big wins on Thursday night at Sharon.  The Lady 'Jackets took a 43-19 win over the Lady Eagles while the Yellowjackets dominated the Eagles 47-9.

    Greenfield jumped out to an early 11-4 lead then coasted to the win over the Lady Eagles.

    Both teams traded points through the first minutes of action, but a Lady 'Jacket free throw sparked a 7-0 run to end the first frame and give the Lady 'Jackets an 11-4 lead at the end of one frame.
