Lions claim win over Halls in annual First Look Scrimmage |
|
The Dresden Lions traveled to Dyer
County High School at Newbern this past Friday night to
participate in the 1st Look Scrimmage sponsored by Sports
Plus Rehab Centers. The Lions came away with a win
over the Halls Tigers in the scrimmage by a 7-0 after 40
minutes of clock play.
The scrimmage was the second time
Lions' fans had seen Dresden in preseason action this year.
The Lions had previously scrimmaged the Dyer County Choctaws
the prior Friday night. The Lions have been working to
implement new offensive and defensive schemes under the
direction of new head coach Eric Knott. The scrimmages
have given the Dresden coaching staff an opportunity to gage
the success of the new schemes and player assignments.
During the 1st Look Scrimmage, there were no kick-offs and
punts and extra points were performed without defensive
pressure.
Halls was first on offense starting
at their own 30 yard line. The Tigers were able to
advance the ball 15 yards over the course of seven plays
before being forced to punt from their own 45-yard line.
Dresden then took over at their own 30 and advanced to the
Tiger 11 yard line before turning the ball over on downs on
the eleventh play of the offensive series. Key plays
of the offensive series were two runs of 13 yards each by
quarterback Austin Evans and an 11-yard carry by senior
running back Clay Adams.

Women's coach names new assistant for 2007-08 hoops season |
|
Skyhawk
head women's basketball coach Tara Tansil named Jessica
Grayson as her newest assistant basketball coach.
Grayson replaces LaNiese Rosemund who opted to pursue other
interests.
Grayson returns to the ranks of the Ohio Valley Conference,
this time as an assistant coach after having a standout
career at Austin Peay.
"This is a great opportunity, not only for our team, but for
Jessica as well," Tansil said. "She is going to be a
great asset to our club and we are eager for her to get
started here in a conference where she is comfortable
coaching."
Grayson matriculates to Tennessee-Martin after most recently
serving as a graduate assistant at Valdosta State University
in the Division II ranks in 2005 and 2006. While at
Valdosta, Grayson oversaw a team that posted back-to-back
trips to the Gulf South Conference Tournament.
