Bettye L. Phillips
Bettye L. Phillips, 82, of Dresden, died Wednesday, November
21, 2007, at Martin Health Care and Rehab Center. Funeral
services for Mrs. Phillips were held Saturday, November 24,
2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Dr. Don
McCulley officiated the services.
Mrs. Phillips was a retired sales clerk and a member of
Liberty Baptist Church in Dresden. She was born in
Palmersville to the late Rice and Birchie Taylor Parham. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was also preceded in
death by her husband, Mr. Clyde Allmon Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by a son, Ron (Pat) Phillips of
Dresden; and two grandchildren, Eric and Allie Phillips of
Dresden.
Christina Lee King Elliott
Christina Lee King Elliott, 31, of Dresden, died Friday,
November 23, 2007, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs.
Elliott were held Monday, November 26, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in
Alamo Baptist Church Cemetery in Rives. Rev. Jo Nell
Copeland officiated the services.
Mrs. Elliott was a housewife and a Baptist by faith. She was
born in Union City. Mrs. Elliott was preceded in death by a
son, Michael Grady.
Mrs. Elliott is survived by her husband, Mr. Mark Elliott of
Dresden; two daughters, Kristin Haley Grady of Dresden, and
Melody Jean Elliott of Dresden; her parents, Terrill and
Sandra Harvord King of Dresden; and two sisters, Teresa
Duffina of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Gena Hodges of
Dresden.
Jerry Eldon Partin
Jerry Eldon Partin, 44, of Sharon, died Saturday, November
17, 2007, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Partin were held Wednesday,
November 21, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at River of Life Church of
God in Dresden. Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery
in Sidonia. Bro. Sam Swanson officiated the services.
Mr. Partin was a mechanic and a member of River of Life
Church of God in Dresden. He was a native of Chicago,
Illinois. Mr. Partin was preceded in death by his father,
Cecil Partin; and one grandchild, Nicholas Partin.
Mr. Partin is survived by his wife, Mrs. Rebekah Jones Partin
of Sharon; three daughters, Kimberly Foley of Martin, Tonya
Partin of Martin, and Rayne Partin of Sharon; two sons,
Jerry L. Partin of Beloit, Wisconsin, and Robert H. Partin
of Georgia; his mother, Mrs. Shirley Hunter Partin of
Chicago, Illinois; two sisters, Debra Cagle of Ridgely,
Tennessee, and Donna Turner of Chicago, Illinois; three
brothers, Eugene Partin of Chicago, Illinois, Rickey Partin
of Chicago, Illinois, and Cecil Partin, Jr. of Fulton,
Missouri; and fourteen grandchildren.
Joe Wayne Roney
Joe Wayne Roney, 68, of Sharon, died Friday, November 16,
2007, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Funeral
services for Mr. Roney were held Monday, November 19, 2007,
at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in
Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Jerry Summers and Bro. Roy Auvenshine
officiated the services.
Mr. Roney was a retired mechanic at World Color and a veteran
of the National Guard. He was born May 24, 1939 in Weakley
County.
Mr. Roney is survived by his wife, Shirley Roney of Sharon;
two sons, Kenneth Roney of Sharon, and Roger Roney of
Sharon; two sisters, Carolyn (Mike) Allen of Dyersburg, and
Leighton (Bobby) Parsley of Gleason; three brothers, Earl
(Georgia) Roney of Chester, Virginia, Howie (Vanna) Cooper
of Gleason, and Lindell (Carolyn) Roney of Gleason; and two
sisters, Marcia (Robert) Tuck of Gleason, and Linda (Glen)
Williams of Clarksburg.
Lewis Aden Biggs
Lewis Aden Biggs, 92, of Dresden, died Monday, November 19,
2007, at Weakley County Rehab and Nursing Center in Dresden.
Funeral services for Mr. Biggs were held Friday, November
23, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Burial followed in Palmersville Cemetery. Elder
Wayne Tidwell officiated the services.
Mr. Biggs was a farmer and a member of Palmersville Primitive
Baptist Church. He was a native of Palmersville and the son
of the late Homer and Lola Lewis Biggs. In addition to his
parents, Mr. Biggs was also preceded in death by a sister,
Mercile Davis; and two brothers, Pauleve Biggs and Marvin
Biggs.
Mr. Biggs is survived by his wife, Mrs. Nellie Ruth Brann
Biggs of Dresden; three daughters, Kara L. Dunn of Union
City, Marie Nicholas of Nashville, and Anita Pagan of
Phoenix, Arizona; three grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; two
step-great-grandchildren; and two
step-great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Jo Vowell
Mary Jo Vowell, 76, of Gleason, died Saturday, November 24,
2007, at Oak Manor Health Care Center in McKenzie. Funeral
services for Mrs. Vowell were held Monday, November 26,
2007, at 1:00 p.m. at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home
in Paris. Burial followed in Olive Branch Cemetery in
Cottage Grove. Jerry Wiggins officiated the services.
Mrs. Vowell formerly worked as a seamstress at Kellwood in
Greenfield and H.I.S. in Gleason. She was a lifelong member
of Jolley Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Vowell was born
November 9, 1931 in Dresden to the late Uylss C. Summers and
Virgie Powers Summers. She married Jerry Vowell and he
preceded her in death July 16, 1979.
Mrs. Vowell is survived by two sons, David (Janet) Vowell of
Dresden, and Randy (Mary) Vowell of McKenzie; six
grandchildren, Jeter Vowell, Jenny Anderson, Margaret Marr,
Heather Summers, Michael Summers, and Josh Vowell; and seven
great-grandchildren, Jerry Vowell, Zach Anderson, Brandon
Anderson, Brady Marr, Jasmine Gibson, Shelby Gibson, and
Andrew Marr.
Mildred A (Sherrill) Sees
Mildred A. (Sherrill) Sees, died Monday, November 19, 2007,
at the age of 86, in Ft. Collins, Colorado. The service with
Rev. Don Bruce officiating was held at Lawrence-Sorensen
Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m., on Monday, November 26, 2007.
Following the funeral services, burial was held at Liberty
Cemetery in Greenfield at 2:30 p.m.
The daughter of the late Albert and Carlos (Watson) Sherrill
was born in Clinton, Arkansas. She grew up on a farm near
Greenfield, where she met her late husband, Ottis Sees. They
married in 1940, and were married for 62 years. They moved
to Jackson in 1970, and were members of First Baptist
Church. She volunteered at the Jackson Cerebral Palsy
Center, participated in the Hospital Host Program, the
Japanese Student Exchange Program, and volunteered at
Maplewood Nursing Home. She and her husband were honored
with the Tennessee Outstanding Volunteers Achievement Award
in 1987.
Mrs. Sees is survived by five daughters, Carolyn (Jim)
Schultz of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Joyce (Bob) McCool of
Knoxville, Judy (David) Stansell of Henderson, Brenda (Ron)
Lollar of Bartlett, and Sandy (Steve) Davis of Jackson; ten
grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Tina Marie Winkler
Services for Mrs. Tina Marie Winkler, 54, are Wednesday,
November 28, 2007 at 1:00 p.m. at McKenzie Funeral Home's
Cedar Avenue Chapel. Cremation will follow the memorial
services. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November
27, 2007, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m.
until 7:00 p.m. Mrs. Winkler was a domestic engineer. She
was born on December 31, 1952 in South Carolina and was a
member of National Storytelling Association.
Survivors include: Dr. Volker Winkler of McKenzie; six
children and their families: two daughters (Kirsten and Jeff
Sass of McKenzie, Robyn Winkler of Australia); four sons and
their families (Jesse Winkler and Rachel Pruiett, Ben
Winkler and Brandy Gatewood, and Ty Winkler--all of
McKenzie--and Roman Winkler of Australia).

Wade Barton
Wade Barton, 90, of Martin, died Friday, November 23, 2007,
at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mr. Barton were held Monday, November 26, 2007, at 2:00
p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Bill Tate
officiating. A graveside service will be held today,
Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at 10:00 a.m. at Cook's Chapel
United Methodist Church Cemetery in Philadelphia,
Mississippi.
Mr. Barton formerly worked with Pet Milk Co. and the
University of Tennessee at Martin. He retired as regional
director of the Northwest Tennessee Regional Health Office
in Union City. He was a member of the First United Methodist
Church in Martin and a graduate of Mississippi State
University and the University of Tennessee at Martin, where
he received his master's degree. Mr. Barton was born July
13, 1917 in Clay County, Mississippi to the late John Thomas
Barton and Myrtle Wade Barton. In addition to his parents,
Mr. Barton was also preceded in death by a son, Cole Barton.
Mr. Barton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Cole Barton of
Martin; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
William Hayden Darling
William Hayden Darling, 85, of Martin, died Monday, November
19, 2007, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Darling were held Friday, November
23, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin.
Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Roger
Lipe officiated the services.
Mr. Darling, before his retirement, partnered with Floyd
Morris, Jr. in D&M Motors. He was also a veteran of the
United States Army serving in WWII and a member of Central
Baptist Church. Mr. Darling was born December 9, 1921 in
Sharon to the late Garth Darling and Bertha Johnson Darling.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Darling was also preceded in
death by two sons, Tommy Darling and Jimmy Darling; a
brother, Harry Darling; four sisters, Pauline Horn, Hazel
Freeman, Frances Penick, and Louise Adams; and a
granddaughter, Candie Cissell.
Mr. Darling is survived by his wife, Mrs. Margaret Wagster
Darling of Martin; a daughter, Donna Cissell of Decaturville,
Tennessee; a sister, Grace Hansbrough of Martin; three
grandchildren; Lorraine Jackson, Christee Clenney, and Eric
Darling; and five great-grandchildren, Hayden Clenney,
Brooke Clenney, James Thomas Darling, Julia Margaret
Jackson, and Seth William Jackson.
