Dr. Robert D. Trevathan
Dr. Robert D. Trevathan, 89, of Martin, died Sunday, November
25, 2007, at his home. Memorial services for Dr. Trevathan
were held Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at
Trinity Presbyterian Church. Buial followed in East Side
Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Lee Clements officiated the
services.
Dr. Trevathan was a retired physician and worked in the
Veterans Hospital in Houston and Memphis. He was a member of
Trinity Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Union
University and the University of Tennessee Medical School.
He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in WWII.
Dr. Trevathan was born October 12, 1918 in Hollow Rock to
the late L.E. Trevathan and Ada Duncan Trevathan. In
addition to his parents, Dr. Trevathan was also preceded in
death by a son, Thomas Trevathan.
Dr. Trevathan is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Margaret
Vail Trevathan of Martin; two sons, James Vail Trevathan of
Houston, Texas, and William Lee Trevathan of Houston, Texas;
a daughter, Kay Shelton of Alexandria, Virginia; and two
grandchildren.
Elma Eva Gante
Elma Eva Gante, 96, of Dresden, died Thursday, November 29,
2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mrs. Gante were held Monday, December 3, 2007,
at 2:00 p.m. at Dresden Methodist Church. Burial followed in
Sunset Cemetery. Rev. Calvin Moore and Rev. Dan Leslie
officiated the services.
Mrs. Gante was a homemaker. She was born February 8, 1911 in
Medan, Tennessee to the late Louis B. Hunt and Matilda
Melton Hunt. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gante was also
preceded in death by her husband, Robert Gante; and a son,
Robert Gante, Jr.
Mrs. Gante is survived by a daughter, Opal (Ray) Harper of
Dresden; a brother, Robert (Martha) Hunt of Spring Creek,
Tennessee; two sisters, Virginia Hunt of Jackson, and
Lucille Pittman of Clinton, Kentucky; one grandson, Donald
Harper of Justin, Texas; two great-grandchildren; and five
great-great-grandchildren.
George Thomas Bizzle
George Thomas Bizzle, 80, of Sharon, died Monday, November
26, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. Bizzle were held Wednesday, November 28,
2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon.
Burial followed in Eastside Cemetery. Rev. Dewayne Thomas
officiated the services.
Mr. Bizzle was retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. and
was a member of the United Rubber Workers. He was born June
21, 1927 in Martin. Mr. Bizzle was preceded in death by his
wife, Velma Skelton Bizzle.
Mr. Bizzle is survived by a son, Thomas Bizzle of Martin; a
daughter, Sandra (Shannon) Stone of Sharon; a sister, Jane
Cassick of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois; four grandchildren,
Jon (Janna) Bizzle, Karen Bizzle, Samantha (David) Fisher,
and Steven (Misty) Stone; and four great-grandchildren.
Harland Connell
Harland Connell, 70, died Friday, November 30, 2007. He was
born April 3, 1937 in Greenfield, the son of Archie Connell
and Jessie (Bland) Connell. Mr. Connell retired from General
Motors in 1989 after 33 years, and was a member of Capitol
City Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Martha (Gant)
Connell; three daughters and sons-in-law, Penny (Michael)
Wollet of Eaton Rapids, Kelly (Leonard) Page of Grand Ledge,
and Kimberly (Terry) Nowatzke of Michigan City, Indiana; ten
grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren; two brothers,
Leland Connell of Collinsville, Illinois, and Ronnie Connell
of Sharon; and one sister, Janice Cleek of Martin.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at
12:00 noon at Gorsline-Runciman Lansing Chapel with Pastor
Roger Epps of Capitol City Baptist Church officiating.
Burial followed at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
James Earl Thomas
James Earl Thomas, 59, of Rockford, Illinois, died Thursday,
November 22, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mr.
Thomas were held Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at
Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in
Beech Grove Cemetery in Dresden. LeRoy Brent officiated the
services.
Mr. Thomas worked in maintenance at Great Oak Apartments and
attended the Baptist Church. He was born August 3, 1948 in
Greenfield to the late Lovely T. Thomas and Willie Mae
Logan.
Mr. Thomas is survived by a son, James E. Thomas, Jr.; three
daughters, Charlene Thomas, LaTonya L. Edwards, and Gail
LaDon Thomas; two sisters, Mae H. Cavitt of Greenfield, and
Louise Brent; five brothers, James Henry Thomas, Jasper
Thomas, Robert Lee Thomas, Lovely T. Thomas, and Alvin
Porter Thomas of Greenfield; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Juanita Winston Brownlee
Juanita Winston Brownlee, 84, of Martin, died Saturday,
December 1, 2007, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services
for Mrs. Brownlee were held Monday, December 3, 2007, at
11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed
in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. David Brown, Rev.
Larry Washburn, and Rev. Bill Tate officiated the services.
Mrs. Brownlee was a retired teacher/librarian for the Memphis
City School System and a member of First Baptist Church. She
was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Junior College
and Memphis State University. Mrs. Brownlee was born
September 23, 1923 in Weakley County to the late Robert
Winston and Agnes Melton Winston. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Brownlee was also preceded in death by her
husband, Leon Brownlee; and a brother, Billy Thomas Winston.
Mrs. Brownlee is survived by a sister, Faye Robertson (Tine)
Vowell of Martin.
Michael E. Stafford
Michael E. Stafford, 34, of Tiptonville, died Wednesday,
November 28, 2007, at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral
services for Mr. Stafford were held Friday, November 30,
2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in
Gleason. Burial followed in Bible Union Cemetery. Carl Evans
officiated the services.
Mr. Stafford was a Baptist by faith. He was born October 3,
1973.
Mr. Stafford is survived by his wife, Martha Sue McAnally
Stafford; and his parents, Thomas and Wanda Evans Stafford.
Odelle Hatcher
Odelle Hatcher, 101, of Nashville, died Saturday, November
24, 2007, at his home. Funeral services for Mrs. Hatcher
were held Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the
First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery
in Greenfield. Joe Lusby officiated the services.
Mrs. Hatcher was a member of the First Baptist Church. She
was born May 26, 1906 in Greenfield to the late William
Oscar Coats and Nancy Ann Overton. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Hatcher was also preceded in death by her
husband, Henry Hatcher; a son, Jack Hatcher; and a daughter,
Frances Johnson.
Mrs. Hatcher is survived by a son, James W. Abney (June) of
Nashville; three grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren;
and four great-great-grandchildren.
Wanda Sue Baker
Wanda Sue Baker, 55, of Martin, died Wednesday, November 21,
2007, at her home. Memorial services for Mrs. Baker will be
held Sunday, December 9, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunswept
Baptist Church in Union City. Rev. James Kinsey will
officiate the services.
Mrs. Baker worked for food service at Martin Middle School
and was a member of Sunswept Baptist Church in Union City.
She was a graduate of Dyersburg High School. Mrs. Baker was
born October 22, 1952 in Lake County.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, David Baker of Martin;
three sons, Shane Baker of Sharon, Harvey Baker of Martin,
and Alex Baker of Martin; her mother, Peggy Sue Poiner Baker
of Martin; and two grandchildren, Blaine Baker of Sharon,
and Lainey Baker of Sharon.
