Ada Gatewood Capps

     Ada Gatewood Capps, 93, of Dresden, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Weakley County Rehab and Nursing Center in Dresden. Graveside services for Mrs. Capps were held Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Ray Harper officiated the services.
     Mrs. Capps was a retired hairdresser and a member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church. She was a native of Weakley County and the daughter of the late Genon and Gertie Gatewood. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Capps was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Alton Marvin Capps; four sisters, Dula Harper, Zeda Harper, Ollie Gatewood, and Dossie Taylor; and a brother, Quinton Gatewood.
     Mrs. Capps is survived by a son, Eddie (Janice) Capps of Dresden; two sisters, Geraldine Austin of Palmersville, and Nell Olds of Palmersville; two grandchildren, Jeff (Shauna) Capps of Martin, and Jennifer Young of Dresden; and four great-grandchildren, Mason and Harrison Capps, and Chase and Chandler Young.

 

Edna L. Holt

     Edna L. Holt, 96, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Ms. Holt were held Thursday, April 19, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. Joe Lusby officiated the services.
     Ms. Holt was the former plant manager of Wormser Manufacturing Company. She was born February 4, 1911 in Greenfield to the late Gilbert Allen and Lillian Williams Allen.
     Ms. Holt is survived by three daughters, Nancy (Holt) Clements of Greenfield, Betty (Holt) Porter of Memphis, and Patricia (Holt) Liggett of Greenfield; grandchildren, Anne Liggett, Betty Baker, Terry Porter, and Cherry Webb; great-grandchildren, Jaime Anderson, Beau Baker, Cory Baker, Chris Bell, Michael Bell, Ethan Porter, and Paige Porter; and great-great-grandchildren, Drew Bell, Julianna Tate Bell, and Kaydon Porter.
 

James W. Smith

     James W. Smith, 63, of Hammond, Indiana, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007. Funeral services for Mr. Smith were held Sunday, April 22, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield. Keith Pence officiated the services.
     Mr. Smith was a truck driver for Akin & Porter Produce, K&F Trucking, and ABF Trucking, totaling 46 years of trucking. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Greenfield. Mr. Smith was born June 12, 1943 in Benton County. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie O. Smith.
     Mr. Smith is survived by four daughters, Shelia (Joe) Reaves of Sharon, Sandy (Randy) Woods of DeMotte, Indiana, Carrie (Brian) Moore of Morris, Illinois, and Jamie (David) Gehan of Joliet, Illinois; four sons, Jerry Smith of Henry, Neal (Kim) Kruchten of Joliet, Illinois, Michael (Trish) Kruchten of Elwood, Illinois, and J.R. Smith of Rensselaer, Indiana; his mother, Katie (Woodruff) Smith; two brothers, Billie (Wanda) Smith of Illinois, and Bobby (Martha) Smith of Southaven, Mississippi; and fifteen grandchildren.

 

Jimmie Dale Maxey

     Jimmie Dale Maxey, 51, of Palmersville, died Friday, April 20, 2007, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Maxey were held Sunday, April 22, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery near Latham. Bro. Kenneth Williams officiated the services.
     Mr. Maxey was a Deck Hand on a Riverboat for Choctaw Transportation. He was a native of Fulton, Kentucky. Mr. Maxey was preceded in death by his father, Sammie Elwood Maxey.
     Mr. Maxey is survived by his wife, Elaine Finney Maxey of Martin; his mother, Mrs. Mauddie Jane Newton Maxey of Dresden; and a sister, Sammie Lou (Ray) Stafford of Palmersville.
 

Mattie Lee Rash

     Mattie Lee Rash, 94, of Greenfield, died Monday, April 16, 2007, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Rash were held Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery in Clinton, Kentucky. Dr. Joe Lusby officiated the services.
     Mrs. Rash was a homemaker. She was born October 30, 1912 in Weakley County. Mrs. Rash was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Rash; a daughter, Deloris Rash; and a son, Robert Allen Rash.
     Mrs. Rash is survived by a son, Davis (Jeanet) Rash of Greenfield; a daughter, Pattie Rash of Scottsdale, Arizona; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
 

Richard Jones

     Richard Jones, 86, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, April 17, 2007, at Martin Health Care Center. Burial was in City Cemetery in Bradford.
     Mr. Jones was a self-employed painter and was in military service from August 27, 1942 to January 17, 1945. He was born June 10, 1920 in Medford, Massachusetts to the late Walter Jones and Mary Seely.
     Mr. Jones is survived by a stepson, Ronnie Knott of Greenfield.
 

Ruby Coats

     Ruby Coats, 98, of Nashville, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007, at her home. Funeral services for Ms. Coats were held Saturday, April 21, 2007, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield. Brent Arnold and James W. Abney officiated the services.
     Ms. Coats was a factory worker and attended the Church of Christ. She was born September 28, 1909 in Greenfield to the late William Oscar Coats and Nancy Ann Overton.
     Ms. Coats is survived by a sister, Odell Hatcher of Nashville; and a nephew, J.W. Abney of Nashville.
 

William Homer Dane

     William Homer Dane, 84, of Aurora, Illinois, died Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at Fox Pavilion Nursing Home.
     Mr. Dane was a factory worker and served in the United States Army from December 23, 1942 to October 25, 1945. He was born November 25, 1922 in Greenfield to the late Cleatus Dane and Jennie Smith.
     Mr. Dane is survived by a son, Gary Dane of Martin.
