Former Dresden resident killed; McKenzie man injured |
A former Dresden resident lost his life and a McKenzie man
was injured in a two-vehicle collision early Tuesday, June
26, which took place in rural Henry County.
According to a report filed by Sgt. Mark Ford of the
Tennessee Highway Patrol, the accident occurred at 6:08 a.m.
on Ben Smith Road, approximately six miles south of the town
of Henry.
Sgt. Ford states that the crash, described as a head-on
collision, took place when Mitchell Clayton Dilday, 45, of

Sidonia man rescued after being trapped by falling tree limb |
|
By David
Fisher Staff Reporter |
A Weakley County man was seriously injured last week as the
result of a tree pruning accident.
Robert Barner, 47, of 1808 Adams Road, Sidonia, was doing a
tree-pruning job for his uncle and aunt - James and Viola
Sampson, who reside at 3449 Boydsville Road when the mishap
occurred. Barner was in the process of pruning the
tree, when one of the limbs he was cutting kicked back
against him, pinning him against the tree's trunk. Due
to the fact that he was trapped high above ground,
bystanders could do nothing to help him and called for
emergency assistance.
According to Palmersville Fire Chief Joe David Laws, at
approximately 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 27, members of
the Palmersville Fire Department were dispatched to the
scene. Chief Laws said that the limb, which was about
eight-inches in diameter, fell back against Barner's leg as
it was cut, trapping him approximately 20-25 feet up in the
tree. "He'd been up there a pretty good while when we
got to him," Laws said. "He was hot, tired and
hurting."
