Lady Jackets topple
Westview |
By Jason Peevyhouse

Something had to give on Saturday night as both the
Greenfield Lady ’Jackets and Westview Lady Chargers
entered the final game of the Westview Thanksgiving
Classic undefeated. The Lady ’Jackets were able to jump
out to an early lead and hold on for three quarters to
take the 55-45 win over Westview on Saturday night.
After a Dazarae Higgs jumper broke the scoreless tie, a
three-pointer from Rhiannon Caudle gave the Lady
’Jackets the lead and sparked a 10-0 run. Caudle’s
opening trey was followed by buckets from Anastasia
Allen and Megan Cash. Caudle then capped the spree with
another trey to make the score 10-2 with 4:44 left in
the opening frame. Higgs and Rachel Lester responded
with a pair of deuces, but Nicole Jones sank a pair of
free throws to spark a 6-1 run that Caudle capped with a
jumper. A late jumper from Kendra Owens cut the
Greenfield lead to 16-9 at the end of the first frame.
Westview rallied late in the second frame. Buckets from
Higgs and Lester cut the Greenfield lead to three points
before a Keely Williams trey pushed the Greenfield lead
back to six points. A Higgs free throw with 1:33 left in
the half cut the Lady ’Jacket lead back to 24-19 at the
break.
The Lady Chargers continued to cut into the Greenfield
lead as an Owens jumper and a Higgs freebie cut the lead
to two points. After Caudle’s next jumper was answered
with an Owens deuce, Greenfield got three-pointers from
Allen and Caudle to help counter a Amber Rechis trey and
extend the Lady ’Jackets lead to 34-27 at the end of the
third frame.
Greenfield got give points at the start of the final
frame from Jones to counter an Owens tally and build a
10-point lead with just over six minutes left in the
game. A pair of free throws from Owens and a jumper from
Rechis cut the lead back to six, but an 8-1 run by the
Lady ’Jackets was capped by a pair of Caudle free throws
to give Greenfield a 47-34 lead with 2:35 left in the
game. The Lady Chargers rallied to cut the lead back to
seven points after an Owens jumper, but a pair of Caudle
free throws sparked a 7-2 run that put the game out of
reach for the Lady Chargers and sealed the win for
Greenfield.

By Jason Peevyhouse

Though the Lions led after one frame on Saturday, strong
second and third quarters by the Indians gave Jackson
North Side a six-point lead going into the final frame.
But, Dresden rallied back to outscore North Side 24-16
over the final eight minutes to take a 66-64 win on
Saturday at the Westview Thanksgiving Classic.
Dresden was able to retake the lead early in the second
half as a jumper from Wil Levister put the Lions ahead
32-31 15 seconds into the third frame. But, North Side
responded with a 6-0 run to regain the momentum and the
lead. Probing they were up to the challenge, the Lions
answered back with four points from Tyson Wright and a
jumper from Matthew Pittman to give Dresden a 38-37 lead
with 3:34 left in the third frame. However, a jumper
from Ryan Swift sparked a 12-2 run that encompassed much
of the third frame and helped the Indians build a 48-42
lead at the end of the third frame.

Greenfield opens season
with sweep |
By Rory Higgins
Sports Writer |
Last Monday night, Greenfield hosted the McKenzie Rebels
and Lady Rebels in what added up to be a win each of the
two Greenfield teams that evening.
Greenfield Lady ’Jackets 57
McKenzie Lady Rebels 53
The first game of the night was a close one, as the
McKenzie girls maintained a slim lead through most of
the game until a 7-point run from Megan Cash helped tie
the game up 47-all to go into overtime.
From there, free throws from Anna Trull edged out
Greenfield 53-51 with just over a minute to go, but a
three-pointer from Keely Williams followed up by a few
freebies from Pannayiotta Edmonston to secure the game
for the Lady Yellowjackets, 57-53.
Earlier on from the first quarter, McKenzie had jumped
to a lead and maintained it, 15-12, into the second,
despite another previous 7-point run from Megan Cash
towards the end of the stanza.
The half saw the McKenzie girls continue to lead,
20-16, as the second period saw the Lady 'Jackets wield
a lot of ball control and defense, but both teams were
unable to score much as McKenzie also held up
defensively.
Both teams put in more of an offensive effort in the
third quarter, but multiple three-pointers from Jill
Taylor and Andrea Swan could not lengthen the MHS lead
as Cash put in nine points to the 18-18 quarter.
Cash led her
team in scoring with a total of 25 points, followed up
by Nicole Jones with 15.
