The No. 9 ranked Bethel College Wildcat’s (9-2) defense
totally dominated the visiting Campbellsville University
Fighting Tigers (2-8) on senior day allowing only 75
total yards of offense.
The defense’s effort gave the Wildcat offense good field
position and allowed Bethel to pound the ball on the
ground. In the end, the Wildcats came away with a 47-0
victory and their first Mid-South Conference Title.
The Bethel defense was stifling from the beginning, as
Darren Adderly intercepted a pass to give the Wildcats
the ball at mid-field. Bethel needed seven plays and
2:58 to go 50-yards for a touchdown. Stevie Mills
punched it in from the fullback position and Shane
Normandin added the PAT for a 7-0 lead.
Normandin then put the Wildcats up 10-0 in the second
quarter on a 26-yard field goal. The Wildcat defense
kept the Tigers at bay and went to the half with the
10-0 lead.
Campbellsville opened the second half on offense and on
fourth and seventeen from their own 22, Tiger punter,
Ryan Donohue, lost the handle on the long-snap and
recovered it in the end-zone resulting in a safety for
Bethel and a 12-0 lead.
Donald Lightfoot returned the free kick 29 yards to the
Tiger’s 28-yard line. Terrance Bell found the end zone
from five yards out on Bethel’s second play and with
Narmandin’s PAT, the Wildcats led 19-0.
Bethel got the ball right back as Campbellsville fumbled
the kickoff. The Wildcats would need five plays and
2:35 on the clock for Adrain Smith to find the end
zone. The PAT by Normandin was good and Bethel was in
command 26-0.
