UTM Men's Rodeo finishes
second, but wins Ozark title |
|
The
University of Tennessee at Martin rodeo team did not win
the recent North Arkansas Community College rodeo in
Harrison, Ark., but that's OK with head coach John Luthi
and his team.
It's OK, because UT Martin had more than enough points
to win its 26th Ozark Region Championship in the past 32
years. With the Ozark Region title, UT Martin will
advance to the College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) June
11-17 in Casper, Wyo.
UT Martin finished second in the North Arkansas rodeo
with 740 points, while Troy piled up 770 points and won
the team title.
With the 740 points, UT Martin completed the year with
7,527.5 points and ranked No. 1 in the National
Intercollegiate Rodeo Association.
"We have a really good team with a lot of talent,"
Luthi said. "However, we had a lot of variables to deal
with in this rodeo."

Sanders signs three
runners for fall season |
|
Skyhawk cross country head coach
Gordon Sanders announced the signing of three runners
for the 2006 fall season. Sanders signed Shannon Wall,
from Cordova; Rachel Weakley, from Clarksville; and
Andrea Lindley from Knoxville.
Wall was a top-25 finisher at the state cross-country
championship before attending UT Chattanooga. She will
transfer to UT Martin for the fall semester from
Chattanooga.
"Shannon strongly improved her last years in high
school with her deep interest in the sport," Sanders
said.
"She has run two miles in under 12 minutes and is more
competitive as the racing distance gets longer. Shannon
could be our number one lady this fall," Sanders said.
Weakley graduated from Clarksville High School this
spring where she was a member of district championship
teams in both soccer and cross-country in 2005. As a
five-sport varsity athlete, she brings great athleticism
to UT Martin.
"Rachel has been a top student and a sub-20 minute
three-miler while balancing five sports and many other
activities into her year," Sanders said.
