Greenfield tops TCA; heads to state for first time since 1985
By Jason Peevyhouse

It's been 21 years since the Greenfield Lady 'Jackets last went dancing in Murfreesboro, but the wait for the Lady 'Jackets is over as the District 14-A No. 4-seed turned Region 7-A Champions completed their prerequisites on Saturday night, defeating the Region 8-A runner up Trinity Christian Academy Lady Lions 42-36, holding off the Lady Lions after a strong start.
After a pair of Becky Atnip free throws were answered by a Katie Henderson freebie, the Lady 'Jackets got a pair of Atnip buckets to sandwich a deuce from Anastasia Allen jumper to give Greenfield an 8-1 lead with 4:56 left in the first frame. Buckets from Jamie Vails and Cricket Glenn countered a Page trey, but a second three-pointer from the senior long-range shooter gave Greenfield a 14-5 lead after the first frame.
"The game was won in the first quarter," Greenfield Head Coach Willie Trevathan said. "We were able to get enough of a lead and hold on."
Back-to-back treys from Rhiannon Caudle and Page opened the second frame for the Lady 'Jackets and gave the Greenfield girls a 20-5 lead with 5:42 left in the first half. A pair of Brittany Yates jumpers countered a Panniayotta Edmontson jumper, but buckets from Atnip and Williams gave Greenfield a 14-point lead. Yet, a late Henderson layup cut the Lady 'Jacket lead to 26-14 at the end of three frames.

Greenfield tops Lake County for Region 7-A title
By Jason Peevyhouse

Of the eight regional championship games being played in Class A girls basketball action on Tuesday and Thursday night, fans in Northwest Tennessee can make a strong case that the battle between Greenfield and Lake County was the best of those eight, if not of all the regional battles throughout the state last week.
To cap off what has been looked at as the best regional tournament locally in recent history, the Lady 'Jackets found themselves suffering from a 10-point after three frames. But, the Greenfield girls pulled one of the biggest gut-checks of the year, rallying to take the Region 7-A Title with a strong fourth quarter performance capped by a game-winning free throw from Alyse Page with eight seconds left to give Greenfield its first girls regional title in over 20 years with a 47-46 victory over Lake County on Tuesday night at Peabody High School in Trenton.
The late rally for the Lady 'Jackets was actually the teams second of the game for the Greenfield girls. A Christian Clay jumper 19 seconds into the game sparked a 9-0 run to start the game that was capped by a Sara Wallace jumper with 5:16 left in the opening stanza. After Clay answered a Page three-pointer with a free throw, Greenfield's offense awoke, as treys from Keely Williams and Page sparked a 10-0 run that put Greenfield ahead 13-10 at the end of the first frame.
