Hayes picks Bethel College over pro career

Bethel College was excited to land local stand-out and multi-sport athlete Drew Hayes.  Hayes inked with Bethel to play football and baseball with the possibility of also playing basketball as friends, family and coaches cheered the decision.

Hayes had several options on the table and was very deliberate with his decision to play for the Wildcats.  Hayes was weighing offers from Vanderbilt University, The University of Tennessee – Knoxville, Mississippi State University, Middle Tennessee State University, The University of Alabama - Birmingham and from Major League Baseball.  But what it boiled down to was his level of contentment.  “With Bethel, I can be comfortable with my surroundings, play for my dad, watch the high school team some more and go to church at a place where I’ll be comfortable,” said Hayes.  “Bethel is taking a turn for the better and I can’t wait.  The upgrades to the football stadium and baseball field are tremendous.”

Hayes excelled on the football gridiron to become McKenzie High School’s only TSSAA Mr. Football winner in 2005.  He also holds several state records; Most Completions in a Year 738, Most Completions in a Game 46 vs. Union City October 7, 2005 and Most Passing Attempts in a Game 73 vs. Union City October 7, 2005.  He ranks second in Most Passing Yards in a Career with 9,300 and occupies third, fifth, and sixth in Passing Yards in a Season.  He finished ranked second for Most Touchdowns in a Career (Rushing and Passing) with 89.  He also was ranked third in Total Offense in a Career (Includes Rushing and Passing Yardage Only) with 9,321 yards.
