The Dresden Middle School
boys, after dropping a hard-fought battle the prior
Saturday, got back on the right track this past Saturday
as they handed the Spring Hill Hornets a 35-22 setback
in the Milan/Medina Invitational Tournament at Milan
Middle School.
In girls' action, the Lady Lions dropped a heartbreaker
thanks to a strong performance from the Milan Middle
School girls 36-32.

After jumping out to an 8-0 lead after one frame, the
Lions held off the Hornets through the remaining frames
to take the win.
After an Alex Robinson jumper put the Lions up by nine
points early in the second frame, the Hornets were able
to cut into the Dresden lead, getting a 6-2 run to make
the score 12-7 with 2:54 left in the first half. But,
Dresden responded with a trey from Jack Roberts and a
Randall Morris jumper pushed the lead back to 10 points.
However, a pair of late tallies by Spring Hill countered
a Robinson jumper to make the score 19-11 at the end of
the first half.
A slow third quarter saw the Lion lead shrink by one as
DMS countered six Hornets points with three points from
DeAndre Larrue and a jumper from Josh Terry to make the
score 24-17 after three frames.
DMS put the game away in the opening moments of the
final frame as the Lions got a 9-0 run to open the final
six minutes to seal the win for Dresden.

The Dresden Lady Lions took
back-to-back wins over the weekend as they defeated
Humboldt 54-37 on Friday night, then follow that up with
a 58-48 win over the Lady Rebels from McKenzie.
In boys action, the Lions dropped a pair of games,
falling to McKenzie on Saturday night after dropping a
decision to Humboldt a night earlier.

McKenzie Lady Rebels 48
Dresden's Lady Lions used 10 three-pointers (seven in
the first half) and 12 of 17 at the line to defeat the
McKenzie Lady Rebels. By contrast, McKenzie had two
shots from three-point range and was 12 of 18 at the
charity stripe.
The game remained close in the first period as McKenzie
led off with the first shot, but the game was quickly
tied at two and again at 11 and 13 as the first period
ended. The second quarter, the Lady Lions took a fair
lead and by intermission had the game in control with a
29-21 advantage.
The third quarter, although trailing 38-23, McKenzie
used an 11-0 run to narrow the margin to 38-34, but
baskets from Cassi Patterson and Brittany Bullock at the
end of the period gave the Lady Lions a 42-34 advantage
and they ultimately won the contest 58-48.
Anna Trull led McKenzie with 15 points, followed by
Brooke Cole with 12 (one three), Courtney Wiggins,
Lindsey King and Zana Carter with six each and Jill
Taylor with a three-pointer.

By Jason Peevyhouse

For the first time in recent
history, the Gleason Bulldogs can take the preverbal monkey
off their backs as the Bulldogs defeated the Yellowjackets
42-37 Friday night at Gleason High School in a District 14-A
matchup.
In girls action, the Lady Dawgs remained undefeated in
district play as they held off a late Greenfield surge to
take a 45-42 victory over Greenfield.

Despite jumping out to an early lead, the Bulldogs
found themselves trailing after the second and third
quarters. But, a strong fourth-quarter effort by the Dawgs
secured them a victory over Greenfield for the first time in
recent history.
Behind the shooting of Byron Fuqua, the Gleason
Bulldogs jumped out to a commanding 10-2 lead as Fuqua hit a
pair of treys as well as two jumpers to counter a Jonathan
Dethloff jumper to make the score 10-2 in favor of the
hometown Dawgs. But, a pair of Reggie McHaney treys cut the
lead back to two points with 3:14 left in the first frame.
After a third Fuqua three-pointer was followed by a jumper
from Jakob Perkins, Jacob Howington added a late free throw
to give Gleason a 14-10 lead at the end of one quarter.
Fuqua's hot shooting continued into the second quarter
as he opened the second frame with another three-pointer.
But, Dethloff answered with a trey and a jumper to spark a
9-0 Greenfield run that was capped by a Derek Laster jumper
to give Greenfield its first lead with 1:28 left in the
first half. After a Howington jumper tied the game, a late
Laster layup put Greenfield ahead 21-19 at the end of the
first half.
