Adell Brann
Adell Brann, 84, of Dresden, formerly of Latham, died
Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Henry Co. Healthcare Center in
Paris. Funeral services for Mrs. Brann will be held today,
Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Jackson Funeral
Home in Dukedom. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in
Dukedom. Bro. Richard Carlson will officiate the services.
Mrs. Brann was a member of the former Oak Grove Church
of Christ and was the owner and operator of the former
Adell's Grocery Store in Latham. She had also worked in the
cafeteria at the Hillview Nursing Home in Dresden. Mrs.
Brann was born January 16, 1922 in Weakley County to the
late James Henry Rea and Emma (Dial) Rea. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Brann was also preceded in death by her
husband, Carl Brann; a son, Lyndel Earl Brann; a grandson; a
sister; and five brothers.
Mrs. Brann is survived by a son, James Hezzie Brann of
Youngsville, North Carolina; a daughter, Janice Ann Gunter
of New Canton, Virginia; two grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Angela Carol Howington
Angela Carol Howington, 39, of Gleason, died Saturday,
September 30, 2006, at Jackson Madison County General
Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services for Mrs. Howington
were held Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at
Sandhill Baptist Church. Burial followed in Sandhill Baptist
Church Cemetery. Rev. Terry Griffin officiated the services.
Mrs. Howington was a daycare provider and a member of
Gleason First Baptist Church. She was born October 19, 1966
in Martin.
Mrs. Howington is survived by her husband, Mike
Howington; two sons, Jacob Howington of Gleason, and Jordan
Howington of Gleason; a daughter, Jacqulin Howington of
Gleason; two stepdaughters, Lacey Howington of Nashville,
Tennessee, and Sheena Hazelwood of Humboldt, Tennessee; her
father and stepmother, Donnie and Peggy Turner of Gleason;
her mother and stepfather, Patsy and Burnis Hodges of
Dresden; a brother, Keith Turner of Nashville, Tennessee;
one grandchild; and six step-grandchildren.
Blanche Boyett Roberts
Blanche Boyett Roberts, 86, of Martin, died Friday,
September 22, 2006, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services
for Mrs. Roberts were held Sunday, September 24, 2006, at
2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial
followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Rev. George Butler officiated
the services.
Mrs. Roberts was born March 5, 1920 in Gibson County
and was reared in Rutherford, Tennessee. She was the
daughter of the late Walter and Zeta (Montgomery) Boyett.
Mrs. Roberts was a hairdresser. She married James Russell
Roberts of Sharon in 1941 and they made their home in
Sharon. He died in 1984. Mrs. Roberts was also preceded in
death by a brother, Lynn Boyett; and three sisters, Marjorie
Roffe, Mina Merl Savage, and Antoinette Percifull.
Ms. Roberts is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Joe
and Kay Smith of Union City, daughter and son-in-law, Dr.
Ken and Kittye Roberts of Lexington, Kentucky, daughter and
son-in-law, Kathy and Tem Chandler of Dresden; seven
grandchildren, Kenny Smith (wife, Tracy) of Knoxville,
Melyne Smith Strickland (husband, Jim) of Memphis, Millicent
Roberts Stilwell (husband, McDavid) of Memphis, Russell
Smith of Belleville, Illinois, LouAnne Roberts of New York,
New York, Laura Beth Chandler of Dresden, and Becky Chandler
McMurray (husband, Joe) of Knoxville; six
great-grandchildren, Boone, Boyette, and Brown Smith, all of
Knoxville, James and Kathleen Strickland and Louise
Stilwell, all of Memphis; two sisters, Faye Bryant of
Jackson, and Twila Walker of McKenzie; and a brother,
Quinton Boyett of Kenton.
Felix Euin McGehee
Felix Euin McGehee, 97, of Martin, died Saturday,
September 23, 2006, at his home. Funeral services for Mr.
McGehee were held Thursday, September 28, 2006, at Mt. Pelia
Baptist Church in Martin. Burial followed in East Side
Cemetery in Martin. Bro. Ryan Potts officiated the services.
Mr. McGehee was a Railroad Switchman for Chicago &
Northwestern and a member of Mt. Pelia Baptist Church in
Martin. He was a native of Weakley County and the son of the
late Joseph and Florence Tucker McGehee. In addition to his
parents, Mr. McGehee was also preceded in death by his wife,
Mrs. Lucille Thompson McGehee; a daughter, Betty Jordan;
three sisters, Relma McGehee, Montiree Horansky, and Ruth
Erwin; two brothers, Gilbert McGehee and Wallace McGehee;
and a grandson, Curtis Bennett.
Mr. McGehee is survived by a daughter, Doris Hendrix of
Martin; a son, Wendell McGehee of Phoenix, Arizona; two
sisters, Virginia Tucker of Dresden, and Helen West of
Dresden; eight grandchildren; thirty-eight
great-grandchildren; and twenty-one
great-great-grandchildren.
Jeffrey Dean Arnold
Jeffrey Dean Arnold, 31, of Dresden, died Saturday,
September 30, 2006, at his home. Funeral services for Mr.
Arnold were held Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in
Hopewell Cemetery in Gleason. Bro. Bob Bennett officiated
the services.
Mr. Arnold was a former Sheriff's Deputy for the
Weakley County Sheriff's Department. He was Church of Christ
by faith. Mr. Arnold was born in Union City.
Mr. Arnold is survived by his wife, Eva Caldwell Arnold
of Dresden; a daughter, Abigail Paige Arnold of Dresden; a
son, William Dean Arnold of Dresden; his father, Kerry Dean
Arnold of Dresden; his mother, Tammie B. Arnold of Martin; a
brother, Anthony Allen Arnold of Gleason; and grandparents,
Wanda Eddlemon of Dresden, and Bobby and Inette Bennett of
Martin.
Jennie Lynn Butts Washburn
Jennie Lynn Butts Washburn, 52, of Dresden, died
Sunday, September 24, 2006, at Methodist University Hospital
in Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral services for Ms. Washburn
were held Wednesday, September 27, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in
Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Bob Copeland officiated the
services.
Ms. Washburn was a Registered Nurse. She was a member
of Beech Springs Baptist Church in Gleason and the National
Nurses Association. Ms. Washburn was born January 24, 1954
in Henry County.
Ms. Washburn is survived by a son, Bryan Neil Washburn
of Shelbyville, Tennessee; her parents, Billy Ray and Faye
Pinkston Butts of Dresden; two brothers, Don Ray Butts of
Dresden, and Van O'Brian Butts of Dresden; her grandfather,
Bill Butts of Dresden; and special friends, Susie McFadden
and coworkers at Henry County Medical Center.
John R. "Johnny" Smith
John R. "Johnny" Smith, 76, of Dukedom, died Saturday,
September 30, 2006, at his home. Graveside services for Mr.
Smith will be held today, Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at
10:30 a.m. at the Biggs Family Cemetery in Olive Hill,
Kentucky. Jeff Ward will officiate the services.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Johnson Grove Baptist
Church and was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in the
Korean War. He was retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber
Co. in Union City after 17 years of service, as a journeyman
mechanic. Mr. Smith was born January 26, 1930 in Fulton
County, Kentucky and lived in this area most of his life. He
was preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia
(Harrington) Smith; a grandchild, Heather Suzanne Babb; and
a brother, James Wilson Smith.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, whom he married
November 4, 1958, Faye (Briggs) Smith; two daughters, Dianna
M. Butler-Sparks of Dukedom, and Marlena Hibbs of Fulton,
Kentucky; a son, Gary Hibbs of Fulton, Kentucky; two
grandchildren, Christopher Robert Butler of Palmersville,
and Jessica Babb Taylor of Nashville, Tennessee; three
great-grandchildren, Angelus Butler, Gaelin Butler, and
Xaiden Butler, all of Palmersville; a brother, Eddie Dale
Smith of Wingo, Kentucky; and two sisters, Pauline Kough of
Jackson, Tennessee, and Shirley Elliott of Fulgham,
Kentucky.
Terri Jean Dortch
Terri Jean Dortch, 47, of Union City, died Friday,
September 29, 2006, at Jackson-Madison County Hospital.
Funeral services for Ms. Dortch were held Monday, October 2,
2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial
followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Jerry Summers
officiated the services.
Ms. Dortch was a sales clerk at the Dollar Tree Store
in Union City. She was a 1977 graduate of Westview High
School in Martin. Ms. Dortch was born September 10, 1959 in
Martin.
Ms. Dortch is survived by her fiancé, Phillip Ogden of
Union City; a son, Billy Ray McDaniel of Union City; a
stepson, Joe Ogden of Woodland Mills, Tennessee; two
daughters, Brandee Bessent of Sharon, and Hope Marie Britt
of Sharon; a stepdaughter, Brandy Moore of Union City; her
father, Gene Dortch of Dresden; her mother, Betty Cochran
Tucker of Sharon; two brothers, John David Dortch of Martin,
and Ronnie Dale Dortch of Greenfield; a sister, Deanna
Thornburg of Sharon; three grandchildren, Morgan Bessent,
Jordon Bessent, and Jamison Britt; and three
step-grandchildren, Macayden Moore, Emma Moore, and Gavyn
Ogden.
Virginia Louise Gardner Hester
Virginia Louise Gardner Hester, 101, of New Palestine,
Indiana, died Thursday, September 28, 2006, at her
daughter's home in New Palestine. Funeral services for Mrs.
Hester were held Tuesday, October 3, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at
Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in Martin
Memorial Gardens. Rev. Franklin Gardner officiated the
services.
Mrs. Hester was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. She
was born July 25, 1905 in Gardner, Tennessee to the late
Claude Gardner and Cora Estelle Nowlin Gardner. In addition
to her parents, Mrs. Hester was also preceded in death by
her husband, Roy M. Hester; and a son, Robert M. Hester.
Mrs. Hester is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean
Schroeder (Ronald) of New Palestine, Indiana, and Georgia
Louise Arnold (Stanley) of Dunnigan, California; two
sisters, Gwendoline Alexander of Martin, and Cornelia Ortman
of Martin; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and
one great-great-grandson.
