Adelle Cunningham
Adelle Cunningham, 92, of Trezevant, died Tuesday,
October 17, 2006, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Funeral
services for Mrs. Cunningham were held Thursday, October 19,
2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Brummitt Funeral Home in Trezevant
with Bro. Malcolm Norton and Bro. Billy Hanks officiating.
Burial followed in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Cunningham was born June 15, 1914 to the late
Elmer and Earthie Walker Argo. She was retired from HIS in
Trezevant. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond
Cunningham; and one grandson, David Stout.
Survivors include: two sons, Bobby (Mattie) Cunningham
of McKenzie, and Mickey (Irmgard) Cunningham of Greenfield;
two daughters, Peggy C. (Billie) Stout of Martin, and
Phyllis (Danny) Curtis of Trezevant; two brothers, Billy
Argo of Belleville, Michigan, and Bobby Earl Argo of
Trezevant; two sisters, Imogene Wade of Paris, and Christine
Hodgson of Trezevant; nine grandchildren, Billy (Vicki)
Stout, Ronnie (Barb) Cunningham, Robert Cunningham, Mike
(Susan) Jorzyk, Donald (Ronald) Cunningham, Terry (Patricia)
Cunningham, Richard (Tammy) Cunningham, Jenny (Sam) Dowland,
and Angie (Shon) Cantrell; one granddaughter-in-law, Felicia
Stout; eighteen great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
Carmel Frank Giardina
Carmel Frank Giardina, 88, of Dunwood, Georgia,
formerly of Martin, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at
Emory-Dunwoody Medical Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Funeral
services for Mr. Giardina were held Saturday, October 21,
2006, at 12:00 noon at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial
followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Mr. T. Joe Walker
officiated the services.
Mr. Giardina worked for the Social Security
Administration - Civil Service and was a veteran of the
United States Army serving in World War II. He was a
graduate of Martin High School and attended UT Martin,
Morgan's Business School, and Bethel College. He received a
Bachelor's Degree in Business and Finance from the
University of Tennessee at Knoxville and a Law Degree from
the University of Memphis. Mr. Giardina was a member of the
Church of Christ. He was born December 29, 1917 in Martin to
the late Carmel Giardina and Jessie Montgomery Giardina.
Mr. Giardina is survived by his wife, Mrs. Aldean Price
Giardina of Dunwoody, Georgia; two sons, Jere Price Giardina
of Dunwoody, Georgia, and Larry James Giardina of Medford,
Oregon; a brother, James Raphael Giardina of Memphis; and
three grandchildren, Sarah Giardina, Forest Giardina, and
Daniel Giardina, all of Medford, Oregon.
Elsie V. Ward
Elsie V. Ward, 92, of Dresden, died Saturday, October
14, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral
services for Mrs. Ward were held Wednesday, October 18,
2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Jim
Calhoun officiated the services.
Mrs. Ward was a homemaker. She was a member of First
United Methodist Church in Dresden, the Democratic Women,
and the Eastern Star. Mrs. Ward was a native of Weakley
County and was the daughter of the late Allen C. and Lena
Mae Higgs Olds. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ward was
also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Gordon Peery
Ward; and a brother, J.C. Olds.
Mrs. Ward is survived by a daughter, Jackie W. (Rickie)
Duncan of Dresden; two sons, Billy F. (Marilyn) Ward of
Dresden, and John A. (Connie) Ward of Cordova, Tennessee;
seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
Gracie Odell Teague
Gracie Odell Teague, 90, of Dresden, died Tuesday,
September 19, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in
Dresden. Funeral services for Mrs. Teague were held
Thursday, September 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Gallimore
Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in Hopewell
Cemetery. Bro. Dennis Cobb and Bro. Darrell Pollock
officiated the services.
Mrs. Teague was a homemaker and a member of the Dresden
Pentecostal Church. She was born February 23, 1916 in Latham
to the late Jessie Bailey and Josie Suggs Bailey. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Teague was also preceded in
death by her husband, George Teague.
Mrs. Teague is survived by a daughter, Linda June
Anderson of Flint, Michigan; a son, Chuck Slaughter of Troy;
a stepson, Jerry Wayne Teague of Flint, Michigan; thirteen
grandchildren; and twenty great-grandchildren.
Harold Gene Rogers
Harold Gene Rogers, 79, of Greenfield, died Thursday,
October 19, 2006, at his home. Graveside services for Mr.
Rogers were held Saturday, October 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.
at Bruff Cemetery. Bro. Houston Patrick and Bro. Coy
Hathcock officiated the services.
Mr. Rogers was a farmer and had served in the Korean
War. He was born October 9, 1927 in Greenfield to the late
William Fred Rogers and Grace Drewry.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Wylodean Rogers of
Greenfield; and a niece, Phillis Huggins.
James W. Reynolds
James W. Reynolds, 85, of Martin, died Sunday, October
22, 2006, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. Reynolds were held Tuesday, October 24,
2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial
followed in Corinth Cemetery in Sharon. Rev. Roger Lipe
officiated the services.
Mr. Reynolds formerly worked for Scates Tire Service
and was retired from the University of Tennessee at Martin
in the maintenance department. He was a veteran of the
United States Army having served in World War II and was a
member of Central Baptist Church. Mr. Reynolds was born
October 20, 1921 in Weakley County to the late Ben Reynolds
and Willie Todd Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds is survived by his wife, Margie Moon
Reynolds of Martin; a daughter, Janet (David) Lamb of South
Fulton; one grandchild, Brandi Russell of Ripley; and three
great-grandchildren, Domnic White of South Fulton, Zachery
Eaves of Ripley, and Julie Eaves of Ripley.
Jeannie Sue Bynum
Jeannie Sue Bynum, 55, of Martin, died Friday, October
20, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bynum were held Monday, October
23, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Burial followed in Pisgah Cemetery near Dresden.
Bro. Eddie Hutchens officiated the services.
Mrs. Bynum was a bank teller at Martin Bank and a
member of Bethel Church of Christ in Martin. She was a 1969
graduate of Dresden High School. Mrs. Bynum was a native of
Weakley County and the daughter of the late Edward Carmack
and Velma Harris Freeman.
Mrs. Bynum is survived by her husband, whom she married
June 14, 1969, Mr. Donnie Mac Bynum of Martin; a son, Don
Bradley Bynum of Clarksville, Tennessee; a brother, Joe B.
Freeman of Martin; and three grandchildren.
Jessie Norene Roberts
Jessie Norene Roberts, 85, of Sharon, died Friday, October
20, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Ms. Roberts were held Sunday, October 22, 2006,
at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in Sharon with Dr.
Jerry Summers officiating. Burial followed in Woodlawn
Cemetery.
Ms. Roberts was a homemaker. She was born February 13,
1921 in Weakley County. Ms. Roberts was preceded in death by
two sisters, Naomi Adkinson and Mildred Killebrew; and two
brothers, Alphus Crockett and Paul Crockett.
Ms. Roberts is survived by a daughter, Janet Gordon of
Sharon; a son, Keith Roberts of Sharon; six grandchildren;
and ten great-grandchildren.
Kenneth Martin Thompson, Sr.
Kenneth Martin Thompson, Sr., 44, of St. Petersburg,
Florida, formerly of Martin, died Wednesday, October 11,
2006, at Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg. Funeral
services for Mr. Thompson were held Monday, October 23,
2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial
followed in Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield. Rev. Joe T.
Lusby officiated the services.
Mr. Thompson was a telemarketer and a graduate of
Westview High School in Martin. He was born July 24, 1962 in
McKenzie. He was preceded in death by his father, Michael
(Mike) Thompson.
Mr. Thompson is survived by a son, Kenneth Martin
Thompson, Jr. of Nashville; a daughter, Sarah Kathryn
Thompson of Nashville; his mother, Jennie Lee Martin
Thompson of Martin; a brother, David Thompson of Dresden;
and a sister, Paula McNeil of Greenfield.
Mark Anthony Reeves
Mark Anthony Reeves, 48, died Friday, October 13, 2006,
in Tucson, Arizona. The body was cremated on October 18,
2006, and the remains were sent to Advantage Arizona
Mortuary University Chapel in Tucson, Arizona.
Mr. Reeves was born July 18, 1958 in California. He was
preceded in death by his father, Sam Reeves, formerly of
California; and his mother, Joan (Kellogg) Bynum, formerly
of Greenfield.
Survivors include: a daughter, Christina McDaniel of
Illinois; two sisters, Melody (Tucker) Sikora of Dresden,
and Carol (Tucker) Brown of Dresden; and two brothers, Eric
Tucker of Big Sandy, and Gary Reeves of Gleason.
Sammie K. Work, Sr.
Sammie K. Work, Sr., of Paterson, died on Monday,
September 25, 2006, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in
Paterson at the age of 76 years.
Prior to retiring 10 years ago, he was the Store
Manager for Pathmark of Fair Lawn. Previously, he served as
Store Manager for Shop Rite of Paramus and Shop Rite of
Rochelle Park. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He
was a member of Clifton Lodge #203 F&AM. He was the son of
the late Ed and Lucille Work of the Dukedom and Pilot Oak
Community.
He is survived by his companion, Yvonne Hale of
Paterson; four sons, Keith and Linda Work of Elmwood Park,
Ronald Work of Park Ridge, Gregory and Sheryl Work of Fair
Lawn, and Sammie K. Work of Paterson; a sister, Marilyn
Foster of Nashville; three brothers, Wayne and Margie Work
of Denver, Colorado, Macon and Peggy Work of Mayfield,
Kentucky, Jerry and Jan Work of Zephyrhills, Florida; and
six grandchildren, Brian, Keith, Ryan, Corey, Julia and
Alexander. He was predeceased by his brother, Jessie Work;
and a brother-in-law, Jerry Foster.
Prayers were said on Thursday evening at 8:00 p.m. with
the Reverend Brian H. Tomlinson officiating.
Vanessa Rene Williams
Vanessa Rene Williams, 46, of McKenzie, died Thursday,
October 19, 2006, at Oak Manor Nursing Home in McKenzie.
Funeral services for Ms. Williams were held Sunday, October
22, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Bethel Baptist Church. Burial
followed in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. David Worley
and Keith Pence officiated the services.
Ms. Williams worked for a rental service and attended Bethel
Baptist Church. She was born September 22, 1960 in Union
City. Ms. Williams was preceded in death by her mother, Ann
(Evans) Williams.
Ms. Williams is survived by her father, Donald R.
Williams of Greenfield; and a brother, Adam Williams of
Greenfield.
Vernell P. Grinder
Vernell P. Grinder, 97, of Dresden, died Monday,
October 16, 2006, at Millers Merry Manor Nursing Home in
Portage, Indiana. Graveside services for Mrs. Grinder were
held Thursday, October 19, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty
Cemetery near Dresden. Bro. Jim Calhoun officiated the
services.
Mrs. Grinder was a housewife and a Methodist by faith.
She was a native of Newbern in Dyer County and the daughter
of the late William Alvin and Lela Jane Talley Patterson. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Grinder was also preceded in
death by her husband, Mr. Malcolm R. Grinder; a son, Jackie
Frank Grinder; a sister, Lucille Weaver; and two brothers,
Bennett Patterson and Louis T. Patterson.
Mrs. Grinder is survived by a son, William Malcolm
Grinder (Geraldine) of Lake Station, Indiana; five
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
