Bertie Louise Hopper
Bertie Louise Hopper, 84, of Martin, died Saturday,
November 25, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Ms. Hopper were held Tuesday,
November 28, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in
Dresden. Bro. Dewayne Harris and Bro. Donald Doster
officiated the services.
Ms. Hopper was retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber
Co. and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. She was a
native of Weakley County and the daughter of the late Wilkie
and Ivie Nanney Sawyers. In addition to her parents, Ms.
Hopper was also preceded in death by two sisters; six
brothers; and a grandchild.
Ms. Hopper is survived by two daughters, Joan (Mackey)
Prince of Martin, and Brenda Killebrew of Helena, Alabama;
two sons, Jerry (Debbie) Hopper of Martin, and Jimmy
(Debbie) Hopper of White House, Tennessee; six
grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Claude H. Marcus
Claude H. Marcus, 83, of Greenfield, died Sunday,
November 26, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Marcus were held Tuesday,
November 28, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Morris Cemetery in
Greenfield. Donald Doster officiated the services.
Mr. Marcus was a farmer and attended Moore's Chapel
Baptist Church. He was born December 26, 1922 near Bradford
to the late Henry Houston Marcus and Bernice V. Wallace.
Mr. Marcus is survived by his wife, Marie Marcus of
Greenfield; two sons, Jerry Marcus of Kenton, and Ronnie
Marcus of Greenfield; two daughters, Brenda Parson of
Sharon, and Deborah (Marcus) Thompson of Paris; eight
grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.
Daniel Earl Brown
Daniel Earl Brown, 90, of Greenfield, died Thursday,
November 23, 2006, at his home. Funeral services for Mr.
Brown will be held today, Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at
11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield.
Burial will follow in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. Roy
Auvenshine will officiate the services.
Mr. Brown was a veteran of the United States Navy
having served 23 years. He was born July 12, 1916 in
Peachville, New York to the late Frederick Field Brown and
Elizabeth Mae Wilson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown
was also preceded in death by his wife, Marie Brown.
Mr. Brown is survived by two daughters, Helen (Brown)
Brennan of Danbury, Connecticut, and Osethie (Brown)
Singleterry of Buskirk, New York; and thirteen
grandchildren.
Doris Woodruff Cooper
Doris Woodruff Cooper, 80, of Dresden, died Thursday,
November 23, 2006, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Funeral services for Mrs. Cooper were held Saturday,
November 25, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in
Dresden. Bro. William Norrid officiated the services.
Mrs. Cooper was a LPN at Weakley County Nursing Home
and a member of Lebanon Church of Christ near Dresden. She
was a native of Weakley County and the daughter of the late
William Rufus and Mamon Olive Prince Woodruff. In addition
to her parents, Mrs. Cooper was also preceded in death by
her husband, Mr. Harold Fields Cooper, whom she married in
1942; two sisters; and three brothers.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by a daughter, Charlene (Byran)
Rich of Dresden; two sons, Ralph (Sue) Cooper of Dresden,
and Richard F. Cooper of Paris; a sister, Rupayne Morris of
Dresden; a brother, Joe Woodruff of Martin; ten
grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Dudley (Slim) Goodlow
Dudley (Slim) Goodlow, 86, of Greenfield, died Sunday,
November 26, 2006, at Jackson Madison County Hospital.
Graveside services for Mr. Goodlow were held Tuesday,
November 28, 2006, at Meridian Cemetery in Greenfield. Keith
Pence officiated the services.
Mr. Goodlow was born April 9, 1920 in Dresden to the
late Lube D. Goodlow and Essie Tilley. In addition to his
parents, Mr. Goodlow was also preceded in death by his wife,
Nova Goodlow.
Mr. Goodlow is survived by five brothers, Lloyd Goodlow
of Greenfield, Carman Goodlow of Greenfield, Johnny Goodlow
of Greenfield, Manos Goodlow of Lansing, Michigan, and Doyle
Goodlow of Shreveport, Louisiana; and a sister, Nelda
Ketchum of Lansing, Michigan.
George Dwayne Essary
George Dwayne Essary, 80, of Greenfield, died Tuesday,
November 21, 2006, at NHC Health Care. Funeral services for
Mr. Essary were held Friday, November 24, 2006, at 1:00 p.m.
at Williams Funeral Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial
followed in Hopewell Cemetery in Lavinia, Tennessee. Brent
Arnold officiated the services.
Mr. Essary was a farmer and attended the Church of
Christ. He was born February 18, 1926 in Milan to the late
Oscar Essary and Eddie Little.
Mr. Essary is survived by his wife, Katy Price (Hill)
Essary of Greenfield; three daughters, Janie (Essary) Bills
of Greenfield, Joyce (Essary) Grissom of Gleason, and
Marilyn (Essary) Pyle of Demopolis, Alabama; two sisters,
Margaret Martin of Milan, and Mary Ruth Smith of Memphis; a
brother, Ray Essary of Louisville, Kentucky; six
grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.
James Aubrey (Jay) Jackson, III
James Aubrey (Jay) Jackson, III, 25, of Martin, died
Friday, November 24, 2006, at Vanderbilt Hospital in
Nashville. Funeral services for Mr. Jackson will be held
today, Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy
Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will follow in East Side
Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Bob Scott and Rev. Lee Clements
will officiate the services.
Mr. Jackson was a truck driver for Starr Trucking
Company and a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church. He was
a graduate of Westview High School and an Eagle Scout. Mr.
Jackson was born March 7, 1981 in Martin.
Mr. Jackson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Tracie Lynn
Vaughan-Jackson of Martin; his parents, James Aubrey
Jackson, Jr. and Betty Hopkins Jackson of Martin; a brother,
Jason Jackson of Martin; and his paternal grandfather, James
Aubrey Jackson, Sr. of Martin.
Jane Eskridge Stuck
Jane Eskridge Stuck, 84, of New Port Richey, Florida,
died October 30, 2006, at Sunshine Christian Home, Holiday,
Florida. She was born in Dresden, the daughter of Casey and
Bessie (Bradberry) Eskridge, and moved to New Port Richey,
Florida 47 years ago from Lansing, Michigan. She was a
manager of the Credit Bureau of New Port Richey, a
Methodist, and a member of Business and Professional Women
of West Pasco.
She is survived by her son, Norman J. Stuck of
Clearwater, Florida; a daughter, Nancy J. Hovey of New Port
Richey, Florida; five grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her aunt, Mary
Bradberry, and cousin, Joyce Hurt of Dresden; and cousins,
Marie Bowers of Martin, and Bobby Bradberry of Nashville.
She was intured at Sylvan Abbey Cemetery in Clearwater,
Florida at the burial sight of her parents.
Leroy Simmons
Leroy Simmons, 86, of Greenfield, died Saturday,
November 25, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Simmons will be held
Friday, December 1, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral
Home Chapel in Greenfield. Burial will follow in Rose Hill
Cemetery in Greenfield. Rev. Wilmor Caldwell will officiate
the services.
Mr. Simmons worked for I.C. Railroad for 39 years and
attended St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Greenfield.
He was born January 2, 1920 in Greenfield to the late Arthur
Simmons and Sarah Belew.
Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife, Eunice (Higgs)
Simmons of Greenfield; two sons, Leroy Simmons, Jr. of
Houston, Texas, and Dexter Shane of Greenfield; and three
daughters, Jeanette (Simmons) Caldwell of Detroit, Michigan,
Wilahemenia (Shane) Martin of Greenfield, and Jamie Farris
of Martin.
Margie Dee Moody
Margie Dee Moody, 70, of Gleason, died Tuesday,
November 21, 2006, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs.
Moody were held Friday, November 24, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at
Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in
Olive Branch Cemetery. Rev. Michael Simmons and Rev. Tom
Winchester officiated the services.
Mrs. Moody worked in food service for a restaurant and
was a member of Jolley Springs Baptist Church. She was
preceded in death by her father, Dee Witt Fortune; a son,
Allan De Jones; a daughter, Dawn Renee Mayo; and three
brothers, Ray Fortune, Roy Fortune, and Alton Fortune.
Mrs. Moody is survived by her husband, Jerry Moody; two
sons, Brian Keith Moody of Shelbyville, Tennessee, and
Christian Ashlar of Martin; two daughters, Debbie Copeland
of Gleason, and Sherry McClanahan of Sharon; a stepdaughter,
Patricia Stone of Greenfield; her mother, Margaret (Buskell)
Fortune of Gleason; a brother, Edward Fortune of Arkansas;
eleven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Martha Mell Crews
Martha Mell Crews, 81, of McKenzie, died Tuesday,
November 21, 2006, at Jackson Regional Hospital. Graveside
services for Miss Crews were held Saturday, November 25,
2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Rev. Gene Price
officiated the services.
Miss Crews was born April 25, 1925 in McKenzie to the
late Garland Crews and Lillian (Sayles) Crews.
Miss Crews is survived by a brother, James Crews of
Lansing, Michigan; and a sister, Maude Looney of Diamondale,
Michigan.
Thomas George Cavin
Thomas George Cavin, 61, of Cookeville, Tennessee, died
Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Cookeville Regional Medical
Center. Graveside services for Mr. Cavin were held Sunday,
November 26, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Cate Cemetery. Rev. Larry
Cavin officiated the services.
Mr. Cavin was a grocery manager at Wal-Mart. He was
born July 23, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois. He was preceded in
death by his father, the late Bomar Cavin.
Mr. Cavin is survived by a son, Thomas John (Michele)
Cavin of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; a daughter, Teri
(Chris) Johnson of Arlington Heights, Illinois; his mother,
Geraldine Norum Cavin of Martin; three brothers, Ken Cavin
of Martin, Don Schmidt of Corpus Christi, Texas, and
Lawrence (Larry) Cavin of Joliet, Illinois; and a sister,
Lynn Hutchins of Arlington Heights, Illinois.
Willie Paul Dane
Willie Paul Dane, 87, of Martin, died Tuesday, November
21, 2006, at Summitt Medical Center. Funeral services for
Mr. Dane were held Friday, November 24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m.
at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in
Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield. Bro. Raymon Carneal
officiated the services.
Mr. Dane was a self-employed brick mason. He was born
June 19, 1919 in Trezevant to the late Robert Wright Lee
Dane and Lou Etta Hargrave. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Dane was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Dane.
Mr. Dane is survived by three sons, Phil Dane of
Martin, Greg Dane of Mt. Juliet, and Ronnie Dane of
Collierville; a sister, Claudine Smith of Troy; and six
grandchildren.
Woodrow Wilson McDearmon
Woodrow Wilson McDearmon, 94, of Sharon, died Monday,
November 20, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in
Dresden. Funeral services for Mr. McDearmon were held
Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Gardner
Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in Woodlawn
Cemetery. Dr. Jerry Summers officiated the services.
Mr. McDearmon was a retired carpenter. He was born
September 8, 1912 in Weakley County.
Mr. McDearmon is survived by a son, Gary (Patricia)
McDearmon of Medina; two daughters, Nancy (Don) McCollum of
Sharon, and Robbie (Clint) McDurmon of Lansing, Michigan;
four grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and eight
