Betty Ruth Melton Buckley
Betty Ruth Melton Buckley, 79, of Dresden, died
Thursday, May 25, 2006, at her home. Funeral services for
Mrs. Buckley were held Sunday, May 28, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in
Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Brian Crow officiated the
services.
Mrs. Buckley was a housewife and a member of the
Weakley County Church of Christ. She was a native of Dresden
and the daughter of the late Carl Lee and Bessie Leone
Parham Melton. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Buckley was
also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Billie Buckley; a
sister, Rachael Johnson; and a brother, Mark Melton.
Mrs. Buckley is survived by a daughter, Beth (Danny)
Forrester of Dresden; a son, Mark A. (Pam) Buckley of
Collierville, Tennessee; a sister, Yvonne Mayo of Dresden;
seven grandsons; and six great-grandchildren.
Jossie Emma Vincent
Jossie Emma Vincent, 94, of Dresden, died Wednesday,
May 24, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Funeral services for Mrs. Vincent were held Saturday, May
27, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home in Dresden.
Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Larry
Reagan officiated the services.
Mrs. Vincent was a homemaker and a member of Adams
Chapel Baptist Church near Dresden. She was born in Obion
County to the late Columbus and Minnie Davidson Robbins. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Vincent was also preceded in
death by her husband, Mr. Leonard Vincent; a daughter,
Martha Jean James; and a son, Leonard Vincent, Jr.
Mrs. Vincent is survived a sister, Marie Garrigus of
Martin; a brother, Freddie Robbins of Dresden; a grandson,
Thomas James of Warren, Michigan; a granddaughter, Diane
James of Detroit, Michigan; and three great-grandchildren.
Kate Downer
Kate Downer, 61, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of
Dresden, died Wednesday, May 17, 2006, at her home. A
memorial visitation will be held at Bowlin Funeral Home in
Dresden on June 2, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
followed with burial at Sunset Cemetery.
Ms. Downer was a 1962 graduate of Dresden High School.
She was employed with W.F. Hall Printing Company until
moving to Memphis in 1987 to become an executive assistant
for Fantastic Sam's International. Her nineteen year career
led her to Anaheim, California in 1995 where she worked for
two years before being transferred to Clearwater in 1997.
Ms. Downer was preceded in death by her parents,
Imogene Simmons Downer and Dale Downer. She is survived by
one daughter, Jennifer Stephenson of Orlando, Florida.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice or the
Ken-Tenn Humane Society. Mary
Kennedy Barber
Mary Kennedy Barber, 85, of Palmersville, died
Wednesday, May 24, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Barber were held Saturday,
May 27, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Union Chapel Church of Christ
in Palmersville. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in
Dresden. Bro. Harvey Elder officiated the services.
Mrs. Barber was a seamstress for Kellwood and a teacher's
aide at Dresden Elementary School. She was also a member of
Union Chapel Church of Christ in Palmersville. Mrs. Barber
was a native of Weakley County and the daughter of the late
Hershell and Mary Elizabeth Glasgow Kennedy. In addition to
her parents, Mrs. Barber was also preceded in death by her
husband, Mr. Herschel Kermit Barber; five sisters, Ruth
Kennedy, Rachael Davis, Virginia Travis, Jean Patterson, and
Billie Sue Gale; five brothers, Ralph Kennedy, Frank
Kennedy, Richard Kennedy, Roger Kennedy, and Joe Kennedy;
and a grandchild.
Mrs. Barber is survived by a daughter, Sherron Barber
of Palmersville; two sons, Richard (Dianne) Barber of
Sharon, and Barry (Karen) Barber of Palmersville; a brother,
Robert Kennedy of Lansing, Michigan; four
step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Raymond Willard Orr
Raymond Willard Orr, 69, of Sharon, died Tuesday, May
23, 2006, at his home. Graveside services for Mr. Orr were
held Thursday, May 25, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Tansil
Cemetery.
Mr. Orr worked for the University of Tennessee at
Martin. He was born June 18, 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Mr. Orr is survived by his wife, Kay Orr of Sharon; a
daughter, Wendy Hicks of Sidonia; a son, Richard Dean Orr of
Sharon; two brothers, Robert W. Orr of St. Joseph, Missouri,
and Tommy Orr of St. Joseph, Missouri; and four
grandchildren. Sue Dowland Mize
Sue Dowland Mize, 66, of Martin, died Monday, May 29,
2006, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital. Graveside
services for Ms. Mize were held Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at
12:00 noon at East Side Cemetery in Martin.
Ms. Mize worked as the Manager of the University Book
Store at the University of Tennessee at Martin. She was a
graduate of Martin High School and a member of the Methodist
Church. Ms. Mize was born April 12, 1940 in Weakley County.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Rickman (Doc)
Dowland; and a brother, Bobby Dowland.
Ms. Mize is survived by two sons, Mark Jones of Union
City, and Mike Jones of Union City; her mother, Doris Jean
Burpo Wardlow of Martin; a brother, Rickie Dowland of
Martin; a sister, Joan Mosley of Martin; and a
granddaughter, Morgan Jones. Verna
Grissom Jackson
Verna Grissom Jackson, 85, of Martin, died Tuesday, May
23, 2006, at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jackson were held Thursday, May
25, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin.
Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Kermit
Travis officiated the services.
Mrs. Jackson was a homemaker and a member of the Martin
Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was born May 12, 1921 in
Weakley County to the late Rollie Grissom and Alice Brown
Grissom. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Jackson was also
preceded in death by her husband, William Junior (Stinger)
Jackson; three brothers, Jack Grissom, Harry Grissom, and
Edward Grissom; and five sisters, Mildred Cunningham,
Estelle Cole, Blanche Moon, Ruby Jackson, and Lucille
Jackson.
Mrs. Jackson is survived by a son, Frankie Jackson of
Martin; a daughter, Linda Dowdy of Martin; two sisters,
Beulah Grace of Martin, and Audelle Collier of Martin; six
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Violet "Bonnie" Gallimore
Violet "Bonnie" Gallimore, 65, of Dresden, died Friday,
May 26, 2006, at Jackson General Hospital. Funeral services
for Mrs. Gallimore were held Sunday, May 28, 2006, at 4:00
p.m. at Davis Memorial Baptist Church in Dresden. Burial
followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Donald Doster
officiated the services.
Mrs. Gallimore was a housewife and a member of Davis
Memorial Baptist Church. She was a native of Chicago,
Illinois, born to the late Edward Saltzman and Violet Becker
Farace.
Mrs. Gallimore is survived by her husband, Mr. Carl
Estes Gallimore of Dresden; four daughters, Lorie Ann
Suddath of Dresden, Sandra Lynn Maness of Greenfield; Connie
Marie Pittman of Dresden, and Barbara Ann Wyrick of Cottage
Grove; a son, Ronal Dwain Stephens of Palmersville; a
stepdaughter, Carla Kay Kalberer of Union City; a stepson,
Byron Lee Gallimore of Union City; her mother, Mrs. Violet
Farace of Chicago, Illinois; a sister, Mary Ann Pieskse of
Chicago, Illinois; and sixteen grandchildren.
