Alvie Lloyd French
Alvie Lloyd French, 74, of Greenfield, died Wednesday,
February 22, 2006, at Jackson Madison County Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. French were held Monday, February
27, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Meridian Cemetery in
Greenfield. Roy Auvenshine officiated the services.
Mr. French had worked at the Milan Arsenal and attended
Bethlehem Baptist Church. He was born January 2, 1932 in
Dyersburg to the late William Roger French and Beatrice
Hollowell.
Mr. French is survived by three daughters, Ronda
(French) French of Greenfield, Reada Brown of Martin, and
Diane (French) Rosson of Nepan, OT; a sister, Gertrude
Dudley of Greenfield; three grandchildren; and six
great-grandchildren. Betty Elizabeth Black
Betty Elizabeth Black, 72, of Gleason, died Sunday,
February 26, 2006, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris.
Funeral services for Mrs. Black will be held today,
Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral
Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial will follow in Hopewell
Cemetery. Rev. Kenny Carr will officiate the services.
Mrs. Black was a retired H.I.S. seamstress and a member
of Gleason First Baptist Church. She was born May 27, 1933
in Gleason to the late Willie D. and Willie D. McCaslin
Garner.
Mrs. Black is survived by her husband, James "Pete"
Black; three sons, Jeff Hames of Gleason, Robert "Noonie"
Hames of Gleason, and Bobby Hames, Jr. of McEwen; two
brothers, Buck Garner of Gleason, and Glendall Garner of
Gleason; three sisters, Elvonia Tate of Gleason, Martha
Starling of Gleason, and Lois Starling of Gleason; eight
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Charles
Ivory Pritchett
Charles Ivory Pritchett, 72, of Dresden, died Friday,
February 24, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union
City. Funeral services for Mr. Pritchett were held Tuesday,
February 28, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home in
Gleason. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery. Rev. Gene
Price officiated the services.
Mr. Pritchett was retired from the United States Army,
where he served in Vietnam. He was born August 28, 1933 in
Dresden to the late Elish Berry and Lillie Mae Teague
Pritchett.
Mr. Pritchett is survived by his wife, Evelyn Moody
Pritchett; five sons, Mark Covington, Don Pritchett, Charles
Pritchett, Jr., Sean Pritchett, and Andrew Pritchett; four
daughters, Lisa Taylor, Kimberly Pritchett, Robbin Young,
and Jennifer Pritchett; a sister, Martha Segraves of
Gleason; and thirteen grandchildren. Dewel T. "Jim"
Carney
Dewel T. "Jim" Carney, 91, of Dresden, died Friday,
February 17, 2006, at Henry Ford Bi-County Hospital in
Warren, Michigan. Funeral services for Mr. Carney were held
Wednesday, February 22, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin
Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in New Hope
Cemetery near Latham. Bro. Donald Doster and Bro. Kenneth
Winstead officiated the services.
Mr. Carney was the owner of Jim Carney Buick Car
Dealership. He was a native of Latham and the son of the
late Ernest and Ella Means Carney.
Mr. Carney is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred
Grissom Carney of East Pointe, Michigan; and a sister,
Maybelle Killebrew Wilson of Latham. Edna Pauline
McDaniel
Edna Pauline McDaniel, 82, of Palmersville, died
Friday, February 24, 2006, at Plumley Rehab Center in Paris.
Funeral services for Mrs. McDaniel were held Sunday,
February 26, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Mack's Grove Cemetery.
Bro. Jim Barnhouse officiated the services.
Mrs. McDaniel was a retired school aide at Palmersville
High School and was a member of Mack's Grove Baptist Church.
She was born in Martin to the late Clarence and Annie
Kennedy Highfill and was raised by her loving uncle and
aunt, Finnis and Ruth Herndon. Mrs. McDaniel was also
preceded in death by her husband, Carlton "Carl J" McDaniel.
Mrs. McDaniel is survived by a daughter, Shirley
(Glenn) Smethwick of Palmersville; a son, Dwight (Aneta)
McDaniel of Palmersville; four grandchildren; and five
great-grandchildren. George Lendell King
George Lendell King, 75, of Gleason, died Wednesday,
February 22, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in
Dresden. Funeral services for Mr. King were held Saturday,
February 25, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home in
Gleason. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery. Rev. Keith
Sumner officiated the services.
Mr. King was a retired Army Master Sgt.. He had served
in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was born March 7, 1930 in
Gleason to the late Charles Webster and Bertie Mae Bragdon
King. In addition to his parents, Mr. King was also preceded
in death by a sister, Charlie Mae Taylor. Helen F.
Thompson
Helen F. Thompson, 74, of Dresden, died Wednesday,
February 22, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Ms. Thompson were held Friday,
February 24, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Meridian Cemetery in
Greenfield. Kylan Mann officiated the services.
Ms. Thompson was a homemaker and attended Bethlehem
Baptist Church. She was born September 5, 1931 in Greenfield
to the late Hubie Cranford and Virgie Brush.
Ms. Thompson is survived by a daughter, Vickie Thedford
of Greenfield; three sons, Robert Means of Greenfield,
Darren Cobb of Dresden, and Marty Cobb of Dyersburg; two
sisters, Cora L. Stroud of Dresden, and Louise Medane of
Jackson; a brother, Harold Cranford of Milan; eleven
grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Lee
Taylor
Lee Taylor, 69, of Lexington, died Saturday, February 25,
2006, at Henderson County Hospital. Services for Mr. Taylor
were held Monday, February 27, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Juno
Church of Christ. Burial followed in Juno Church of Christ
Cemetery.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Linda Taylor; a
daughter, Leanda Owen of Jackson; two brothers, Bill and
Eugene Taylor of Dyersburg; three sisters, Elizabeth
Stephens, Janie Mansfield of Dyersburg, and Louise Watson of
Yuda City, California; and one grandchild, Ethan Owen.
William Dennis Harrison
William Dennis Harrison, 66, of Memphis, died Sunday,
February 27, 2006, at Methodist University Hospital. Funeral
services will be held today, Wednesday, March 1, 2006, at
Memorial Park Funeral Home at 10:00 a.m. with graveside
services at 2:00 p.m. at Highland Cemetery in Greenfield.
Mr. Harrison was a printer with the Commercial Appeal
and Christ United Methodist Church. He was a veteran of the
United States Army, 32nd Degree Mason, a member of Normal BG
Lodge, Scottish Rite, and a Shriner. He was preceded in
death by his parents, Thomas and Eleanor Jobe Harrison of
Greenfield.
Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Evangeline "Vangie"
Donald Harrison; a sister, Kathryn Harrison Sawyers of
Greenfield; and numerous nephews, nieces, relatives,
coworkers, and friends.
The family requests that any memorials be sent to the
American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
