Ann Baker
Ann Baker, 69, of Como, died Thursday, March 9, 2006,
at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Baker were held Saturday, March
11, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral
Home in Paris. Burial followed in Olive Branch Cemetery in
Cottage Grove. Don Malone and Billy Ross officiated the
services.
Mrs. Baker was a former beautician and a member of
Thompson Creek Baptist Church. She was born February 24,
1937 in Dresden to the late Avis Todd and Ilanone Parker
Todd. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Baker was also
preceded in death by a sister, Mae Westbrook.
Mrs. Baker is survived by her husband, whom she married
January 9, 1953, Doy Baker of Como; a daughter, Donna
(Larry) Insco of Dresden; a son, Mike (Tina) Baker of Como;
six grandchildren, Garth and Riley Baker, Kim Maddox, Jeff
and Chuck Insco, and Laura Barnes; nine great-grandchildren;
and one great-great-grandchild. Beverly Ann Hampton
Beverly Ann Hampton, 41, of Dresden, died Friday, March
10, 2006, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital in
Jackson. Funeral services for Ms. Hampton were held Monday,
March 13, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel
in Dresden. Burial followed in West Union Cemetery near
Dresden. Bro. Billy Garner officiated the services.
Ms. Hampton was a Baptist by faith. She was a native of
Chicago, Illinois. Ms. Hampton was preceded in death by her
father, Frank Hampton; twin daughters, Camron and Carlon
Hoskins; and a son, Jonathan Hoskins.
Ms. Hampton is survived by her mother, Carolyn
Christian of Sharon; two brothers, Frank Hampton, Jr. of
Charleston, South Carolina, and Robert Hopgood of Sharon; a
stepsister, Stephine Richard of Grand Junction, Tennessee;
and her finance', Mike Jann of Gleason. Charles
"Mac" M. Lowry
Charles "Mac" M. Lowry, 75, died Monday, February 27,
2006, at his home in Mill Creek, Washington.
Mr. Lowry was born to Ike and Minnie Lowry in
Litchfield, Illinois. He was 2 years old when his family
moved to Dresden, where Mr. Lowry lived until he joined the
military at the age of 17. He joined the Air Force in 1947
and served his country for 20 years before retiring in 1967.
He met his wife, Martha, in 1951 and they married four
months later. Mr. Lowry was inducted into the
Northwest Bowlers Association Hall of Fame in 1976. He was
nominated as Everett Man Of The Year in Sports in 1962 and
also as Seattle "Man Of the Year" in 1973 and in 1974 he was
named Seattle "Bowler of the Year." In 1972, he beat over
25,000 men to win the ABC All Events Title in Long Beach,
California. He was Proprietor and Manager of Leilani &
Sunset Lanes for 20 years. He purchased Roxbury Lanes in
South Seattle and created a successful establishment.
Mr. Lowry is survived by his wife of 54 years, Martha;
four daughters and their husbands, Trish and Mike Russell,
Debbie and David VanWinkle, Julie Lowry and Todd Lee, and
Kelly and Steve Beets; a brother, Walt; a sister, Hope; and
several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Sonja
Kennedy, Shane Kennedy, Shareen Kennedy, Kyle Krout, Tracie
Fortnier, Ryan Fortnier, Brianne Beets, Derek Russell,
Travis Beets, Ariana Kennedy, Ryker Fortnier, and Grady
Fortnier. Coresta Jane Marlar
Coresta Jane Marlar, 83, of Sharon, died Friday, March
10, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Ms. Marlar were held Sunday, March 12, 2006, at
1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church. Burial followed in
Harmony Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Burnsville,
Mississippi. Dr. Jerry L. Summers and Rev. Dewayne Thomas
officiated the services.
Ms. Marlar was a homemaker and a member of the Eastern
Star. She was born May 17, 1922 in Pickens, Mississippi.
Ms. Marlar is survived by a son, A.B. Marlar, Jr. of
Sharon; three daughters, Annette Marlar of Germantown,
Cherry Rountree of Brandon, Mississippi, and Kim York of
Jackson; three sisters, Aileen Carson of Ocean Springs,
Mississippi, Lorene Utz of Yazoo City, Mississippi, and
Olivia Williams of Vicksburg, Mississippi; two brothers, H.W.
Holleman of Brandon, Mississippi, and Dr. Henry Holleman of
Columbus, Mississippi; seven grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren. Donald Wray
Donald Wray, 56, of Chicago, Illinois, died Wednesday,
March 8, 2006, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Wray
were held Monday, March 13, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Murphy
Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery
in Latham. Rev. Vernon Smith officiated the services.
Mr. Wray was a plumber. He was born January 10, 1940 in
Fulton, Kentucky to the late Goble Wray and Pearlie Milton
Wray.
Mr. Wray is survived by his wife, Ardelle Johnson Wray
of Chicago, Illinois; a daughter, Donna Wright of Adger,
Alabama; a son, Donald R. Wray of Wingo, Kentucky; a
stepson, Howard Wilson of Kettel Island, Kentucky; two
sisters, Linda Sheraden of Gates, Tennessee, and Brenda
Whitehead of Dyersburg; a brother, Bobby Wray of Gates,
Tennessee; and eight grandchildren. Edward Earl
Dortch
Edward Earl Dortch, 73, of Sharon, died Thursday, March
9, 2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Funeral
services for Mr. Dortch were held Saturday, March 11, 2006,
at 11:00 a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in Sharon. Burial
followed in Alamo Cemetery. Rev. Darrell Morgan officiated
the services.
Mr. Dortch was a roofer. He was born October 12, 1932.
Mr. Dortch was preceded in death by four brothers, John
Dortch, Oran Dortch, Harold Dortch, and Danny Dortch; and
three sisters, Ruth Pugh, Margie Spontak, and Josephine
Roberts.
Mr. Dortch is survived by his wife, Anita Dortch of
Sharon; two sons, Dale Dortch of Shiloh, Illinois, and Earl
Dortch of Berwyn, Illinois; a daughter, Deborah Durkin of
Tinley Park, Illinois; a sister, Mattielene Olsen of
Chicago, Illinois; and six grandchildren. Etta Ruth
Ross
Etta Ruth Ross, 90, of Gleason, died Thursday, March 9,
2006, at Dyer Nursing Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Ross
were held Saturday, March 11, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at
Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in
Old Union Cemetery. Elder Loyce Fuller and Rev. Keith Sumner
officiated the services.
Mrs. Ross was a homemaker and a member of Old Union
Primitive Baptist Church. She was born April 11, 1915 in
Gleason to the late James Price and Sara Lunette (Beasley)
Ellis. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Ross was also
preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Ross; a brother,
James "Buck" Ellis; three sisters, Wilma Parker, Nell
Gallimore, and Marie Ellis; and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Ross is survived by a daughter, Shirley Smith of
Gleason; two brothers, Bob Ellis of Paris, and Ray Ellis of
Hollow Rock; a sister, Lena Morgan of Paris; three
grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Joseph
W. "Joe" Richardson
Joseph W. "Joe" Richardson, 91, of Dresden, died
Saturday, March 11, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Richardson were held
Monday, March 13, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Lebanon Cemetery in
Dresden. Bro. T. Joe Walker officiated the services.
Mr. Richardson was a farmer and a member of Lebanon
Church of Christ in Dresden. He was also a veteran of the
United States Army serving in WWII. Mr. Richardson was a
native of Nashville and the son of the late William Frank
and Leona Tune Richardson.
Mr. Richardson is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hyla B.
Sells Richardson of Dresden; a daughter, Lynda Campbell of
Memphis; a son, Gary L. Richardson of Martin; and two
grandchildren, Robert L. Richardson and Amanda McKee.
Lela Mae Burch
Lela Mae Burch, 91, of Dresden, died Tuesday, March 7,
2006, at Hillview Community Living Center in Dresden.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burch were held Friday, March 10,
2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Burial followed in Bowers Chapel Cemetery near
Gibson Wells, Tennessee. Bro. Nathan Horton officiated the
services.
Mrs. Burch was a housewife and a member of Siloam
General Baptist Church near Dresden. She was a native of
Baldwyn, Mississippi, and the daughter of the late Sidney
Thomas and Carrie Lee Waddle Samples. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Burch was also preceded in death by her
husband, Mr. Herman Burch; a son, Lonnie Burch; and three
great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Burch is survived by a daughter, Mary Ellen Daily
of Palmersville; two sons, Eugene Burch of Buchanan, and
Robert Burch of Humboldt; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen
great-grandchildren; and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
Rev. Mayo C. Mansfield
Rev. Mayo C. Mansfield, 79, of Martin, died Saturday,
March 11, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Funeral services for Rev. Mansfield were held Tuesday, March
14, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Burial followed in Cates Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Bob
Copeland, Rev. David Freeman, and Rev. Scott Penick
officiated the services.
Rev. Mansfield was a retired Baptist Minister and had
preached in West Tennessee and West Kentucky for 45 years.
He was also a retired bus driver for the Weakley County
Department of Education. Rev. Mansfield was a member of
Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He was born June 14, 1926 in
Weakley County to the late Chesley Mayo Mansfield and Ethel
Cavin Mansfield.
Rev. Mansfield is survived by his wife, Mrs. Bonnie
Lackey Mansfield of Martin; a son, Gary Mansfield of Martin;
two daughters, Sandra Wright of Rossville, Tennessee, and
Debbie Dowdy of Benton, Kentucky; a brother, Richard
Mansfield of McKenzie; six grandchildren; and twelve
great-grandchildren. Virginia Ann Howell
Virginia Ann Howell, 61, of Bradford, died Monday,
March 13, 2006, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. Funeral
services for Ms. Howell will be held today, Wednesday, March
15, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial will follow in Shiloh Cemetery in
Bradford. Dale Denning will officiate the services.
Ms. Howell was a homemaker. She was born October 31,
1944 in Bradford to the late Ray Reynolds and Lorene
Nichols.
Ms. Howell is survived by three sons, Sam Howell of
Brighton, Mike Howell of Bradford, and Thomas Howell of
Memphis; a daughter, Martha Box of Milan; two brothers,
Nickie Reynolds of Bradford, and Robert Reynolds of
Bradford; two sisters, Irene Eubanks of Milan, and Mary Nell
Tradwick of Trezevant; seventeen grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild. Virginia Marlar Cook
Virginia Marlar Cook, 90, of Dresden, died Tuesday,
March 7, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden.
Graveside services for Mrs. Cook were held Thursday, March
9, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Tansil Cemetery in Sharon.
Mrs. Cook was a homemaker and a member of Cumberland
Presbyterian Church in Sharon. She was born December 13,
1915 in Weakley County to the late Luther Marlar and Vina
Mowerry Marlar. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cook was
also preceded in death by her husband, Chester Butler.
Mrs. Cook is survived by a sister, Mattie Davis of
Sharon.
