Christine Capps Nanney
Christine Capps Nanney, 78, of Sharon, died Saturday,
June 3, 2006, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Nanney
were held Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy
Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in Tansil Cemetery
in Sharon. Rev. Larry Kendrick officiated the services.
Mrs. Nanney was the former Executive Director of
Northwest Tennessee Economic Development Council. She was a
member of the First United Methodist Church in Martin. Mrs.
Nanney was a graduate of Martin High School and attended the
University of Tennessee Junior College. She was born August
17, 1927 in Weakley County to the late Thelon (Pappy) Capps
and Zula Estes Capps. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Nanney was also preceded in death by her husband, Pat K.
Nanney, Sr..
Mrs. Nanney is survived by four sons, Robert Nanney of
South Fulton, Walter Nanney of Martin, John Nanney of
Sharon, and Pat K. Nanney, Jr. of Sharon; and six
grandchildren, Christy Nanney, Paul Nanney, Carrie Castelle,
Dylan Nanney, Scout Nanney, and Stephen Nanney.
Edith Patterson May
Edith Patterson May, 89, of Martin, died Tuesday, May
30, 2006, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Funeral
services for Mrs. May were held Saturday, June 3, 2006, at
12:00 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church. Burial followed
in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Dave Reinhard
officiated the services.
Mrs. May was a member of the First Assembly of God
Church and a graduate of the University of Tennessee at
Martin. She was born March 21, 1917 in Marshall, Arkansas.
Mrs. May was preceded in death by her husbands, Charlie
Atkins and George Hunter May; and a sister, Carla Pauline
Smith.
Mrs. May is survived by two sons, Joseph May of Waco,
Texas, and Richard Atkins of Flippin, Arkansas; two
daughters, Linda Carol Carpenter of San Antonio, Texas, and
Janice Fay Benson of Corpus Christi, Texas; and ten
grandchildren. Gary L. Tucker
Gary L. Tucker, 58, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, May
30, 2006, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Tucker were
held Thursday, June 1, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams
Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Hornbeak
Cemetery in Greenfield. Joe Lusby officiated the services.
Mrs. Tucker was the Office Manager for Tucker Bros. in
Greenfield and attended the First Baptist Church. She was
born August 8, 1947 in Mayfield, Kentucky to the late
Charlie Russell and Eva Darnell.
Mrs. Tucker is survived by her husband, Dennis Tucker
of Greenfield; two sons, Chad Pritchett of Benton, Kentucky,
and Brad Pritchett of Brown Town, Indiana; a stepson,
Bradley Tucker of Greenfield; a daughter, Molly (Pritchett)
Jones of Mayfield, Kentucky; a stepdaughter, Kim (Tucker)
Hensley of Dresden; a sister, Melba Via of Madisonville,
Tennessee; and nine grandchildren.
Hollis B. Wilson
Hollis B. Wilson, 78, of Martin, died Wednesday, May
31, 2006, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Wilson were
held Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Murphy Funeral
Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in
Martin. Bro. Eddie Hutchens officiated the services.
Mr. Wilson, before his retirement, owned and operated
University Sinclair Service Station. He was also a member of
the Martin Church of Christ. Mr. Wilson was born November 2,
1927 in Martin to the late James Roy Wilson and Ruthie Bynum
Wilson. In addition to his parents, Mr. Wilson was also
preceded in death by his wife, Christine Crutchfield Wilson;
and a brother, Harold Loydd Wilson.
Mr. Wilson is survived by a son, Rick L. Wilson, Sr. of
Union City; a brother, James R. Wilson of Cullman, Alabama;
four grandchildren, Rick Wilson, Jr. of Martin, Paul Ryne
Wilson of Martin, Daysha Anderson of Bartlett, Tennessee,
and Charlie Wilson of Bartlett, Tennessee; a
step-granddaughter, Avery Rice of Nashville, Tennessee; and
three great-grandchildren, Lee Wilson of Martin, Mary Reece
Wilson of Martin, and Ella Victoria Anderson of Bartlett,
Tennessee. J.D. Adams
J.D. Adams, 83, of Greenfield, died Monday, May 29,
2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. Adams were held Thursday, June 1, 2006, at
2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial
followed in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Bradford. Joe Lusby
officiated the services.
Mr. Adams was a farmer and attended the First Baptist
Church. He was born June 15, 1922 in Greenfield to the late
William Adams and Bertha Raney.
Mr. Adams is survived by his wife, Pearlie B.
(Alexander) Adams of Greenfield; two sons, Dan Adams of
Houston, Texas, and David Adams of Carbondale, Illinois;
three sisters, Marie Usery of Greenfield, Sue Williamson of
Greenfield, and Ruth A. Mitchell of Greenfield; and three
granddaughters, Sonya Giannell of Mt. Prospect, Illinois,
Kendra Bowie of Houston, Texas, and Natasha Adams of

Eastep
Lou Ann Radford Eastep, 66, of Harlingen, Texas, died
Saturday, June 3, 2006, at Valley Regional Medical Center in
Brownsville, Texas. Funeral services for Mrs. Eastep will be
held Friday, June 9, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. Thompson Creek
Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Olive Branch Cemetery
in Cottage Grove. Don Malone will officiate the services.
Mrs. Eastep graduated from the University of Tennessee
and later received her Master's Degree from Texas A&I
University. She taught in Paris and Puryear and later moved
to Texas, where she taught in Brownsville, Los Fresnos, San
Benito and Harlingen. Mrs. Eastep was a member of the First
Baptist Church in Harlingen, Texas. She was born September
9, 1939 in Martin to the late Virgil Alvin Radford and Selva
"Peggy" Lamb Radford. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Eastep was also preceded in death by a daughter, Susan
Eastep; and a brother, Van Dale Radford.
Mrs. Eastep is survived by her husband, Buford Eastep
of Harlingen, Texas; a daughter, Sabrina Selva (Sgt. Davy)
Chick of Ft. Bliss, Texas; a son, William Virgil (Gloria
Lynn) Eastep of Harlingen, Texas; and grandchildren, Ricardo
Aaron Lopez, Samantha and Nico Laiuppa, Jordan McKenzie, and
William Harrison Eastep. Martha Jean
Kessel
Martha Jean Kessel, 58, of Dresden, died Monday, May
29, 2006, at VanAyer Manor and Rehab Center in Martin.
Memorial services for Ms. Kessel were held Monday, June 5,
2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Bro. Gerry Gallimore officiated the services.
Ms. Kessel was a homemaker and a member of Hodges
Chapel Baptist Church near Dresden. She was a native of
Chicago, Illinois and the daughter of the late Frank John
Peltz and Ann Esther Kowalewski. In addition to her parents,
Ms. Kessel was also preceded in death by a son, Robert
McCoy.
Ms. Kessel is survived by three daughters, Gina (Tom)
Slavens of Columbia, Missouri, Deanna (Bobby) McCaig of
Dresden, and Tara Funderburk of Nashville, Tennessee; two
sons, John Hobon of Wisconsin, and Frank (Anna) McCoy of
Chicago, Illinois; a sister, Roselyn Davis of Tennessee; a
brother, Robert Peltz of North Carolina; and nine
grandchildren. Rena Eudell Havens
Rena Eudell Havens, 96, of Martin, died Sunday, May 28,
2006, at VanAyer Manor Nursing Home in Martin. Graveside
services for Ms. Havens were held Wednesday, May 31, 2006,
at 1:00 p.m. at New Prospect Cemetery in Greenfield. James
Hayes officiated the services.
Ms. Havens was born January 26, 1910 in Greenfield to
the late George G. Boaz and Rena Surber.
Ms. Havens is survived by a nephew, Randy Boaz of
Sharon. Thomas Wayne Davis
Thomas Wayne Davis, 75, of Martin, died Wednesday, May
31, 2006, at Union City Manor Nursing Home in Union City.
Funeral services for Mr. Davis were held Saturday, June 3,
2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Burial followed in Travis Chapel Cemetery near
Dresden. Bro. Vernon Smith officiated the services.
Mr. Davis was a retired Martin City Employee and a
member of Davis Memorial Baptist Church in Dresden. He was a
native of Weakley County and the son of the late Monroe and
Early Taylor Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by two daughters, Theresa Gail
(Ronnie) Brown, Sr. of South Fulton, and Deborah Sue Morris
of Buchanan; a sister, Elizabeth (Calvin) Wilbanks of
Memphis; two brothers, Charles (Ernestine) Davis of Martin,
and Edmond (Carolyn) Davis of St. Louis, Missouri; two
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
William Calvin "W.C." Kemp
Funeral services for William Calvin "W.C." Kemp, 75,
were held Tuesday, June 6, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Friendship
Baptist Church with L.J. Hatcher, Billy Ingrum, and Homer D.
Kemp officiating. Burial followed in Antioch Cemetery in
Springville.
Mr. Kemp was born January 12, 1931 to the late Wade
Gaston Kemp and Ellen Curry Kemp. He was a member of
Friendship Baptist Church, a U.S. Army Korean veteran,
former licensed funeral director, former Weakley County
coroner for eight years, worked at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield 1964-1980, worked at Ridgeway Funeral Home in
mid-1980s, retired from Kesterson Company as a security
guard, member of Tennessee Law Enforcement Officer
Association, and member of Amvets. He was preceded in death
by one great-grandchild.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Ingrum Kemp of
Springville; two daughters, Brenda Kemp of Nashville, and
Barbara Eldridge of Huntingdon; one son, Tony Kemp of
Springville; and five grandchildren, Amanda Eldridge, Kevin
Eldridge, Carol Kemp, Hanna Kemp, and Megan Kemp.
Ridgeway Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
William Murphy Whitby
William Murphy Whitby, 48, of Knoxville, Tennessee,
died Tuesday, May 30, 2006, at the University of Tennessee
Medical Center in Knoxville. Funeral services for Mr. Whitby
were held Friday, June 2, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Murphy
Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in Pleasant Hill
Cemetery in Dresden. Rev. J.T. Brown officiated the
services.
Mr. Whitby, before becoming disabled, worked for U.S.
Security as a Security Officer. He was a member of the
Assembly of God and attended Hornbeak Elementary School and
Obion Central High School. Mr. Whitby was born April 14,
1958 in Lake County. He was preceded in death by his father,
Willie Lee Whitby, Jr.
Mr. Whitby is survived by his mother and stepfather,
Katie Inez Voss Buckelew and Richard Buckelew of Knoxville,
Tennessee; two brothers, Greg Brogdon of Milan, and Richard
S. Buckelew, Jr. of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; and a sister,
Tammy (Kenneth) Draughn of Crofton, Kentucky.
