Annie Mae Johnson
Annie Mae Johnson, 87, died Saturday, June 10, 2006.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were held at the Skinner
Funeral Home in Eaton Rapids, Michigan.
Mrs. Johnson was preceded in death by her husband,
James E. Johnson; a brother, Leonard Trosper;
daughter-in-law, Joan J. Johnson; and a grandson, Seth A.
Page.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by two sons, James Marlin
Johnson of Eaton Rapids, Michigan, and Herbert Allen Johnson
of Charlotte; two daughters, Phyllis Ann (Jim) Davison of
Eaton Rapids, and Judy Mae Page of Lansing; eleven
grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Modean Berryhill of
Grand Ledge, and Fay Gray of Eaton Rapids; and several
nieces and nephews. Annie Sue King
Annie Sue King, 91, of Martin, died Monday, June 19,
2006, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Union City. Funeral
services for Mrs. King were held Saturday, June 24, 2006, at
11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed
in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Larry Washburn officiated
the services.
Mrs. King was born June 12, 1915 in Jackson, Tennessee
and was a graduate of Alamo High School. She lived in Alamo
until she met her husband, Lloyd, and they moved to
Henderson and lived there until moving to Dresden for a few
years. Mrs. King has two undergraduate degrees, one in
secondary Education and one in Library Science from George
Peabody College in Nashville. She received her Masters in
Library Science after moving to Martin in the mid 1940s. She
attended UT Martin and was a graduate of UT Martin in
Secondary Education in 1945. She later received two more
Masters from UT Martin in the 50s and 60s. Mrs. King taught
and was a Librarian at Martin High School and Westview High
School for over 35 years and was the Yearbook Sponsor for
most of those years. She was a member of Tennessee Retired
Teachers, Order of Eastern Star, and the First Baptist
Church in Martin. Mrs. King was preceded in death by her
parents, William Wynns and Annie Lewis Wynns; her husband of
over 60 years, Lloyd A. King, who was a professor at UT
Martin and a former principal of Dresden High School.
Mrs. King is survived by a son, Lloyd D. King and wife,
Robin, of Hoover, Alabama; and three grandchildren, Lloyd
Brandon King of Hoover, Alabama, Todd David King of
Hoover,Alabama, and Taylor Ann King of Hoover, Alabama.
Harold D. Johnson
Harold D. Johnson, 79, of Martin, died Sunday, June 25,
2006, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris. Funeral
services for Mr. Johnson will be held Wednesday, June 28,
2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial
will follow in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Mr. Webb Hall
will officiate the services.
Mr. Johnson was an educator/former teacher in the Obion
County School System and former Director of Vocational
Education in Obion County. He attended Martin High School
and was a graduate of the University of Tennessee Junior
College and the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Mr.
Johnson was a member of the Martin Church of Christ. He was
born March 22, 1927 in Martin to the late H.D. Johnson and
Annie Kathryn Scates Johnson. In addition to his parents,
Mr. Johnson was also preceded in death by his first wife,
Patricia Ann Johnson; and two sisters, Marion Crouch and
Cathryn Mashburn.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Helen Pilla
Johnson of Martin; three sons, Stan (Didi) Johnson of
Martin, Hal (Lisa) Johnson of Knoxville, and John (Melanie)
Johnson of Dresden; stepchildren, Cindy (David) Crittendon
of Alberton, Montana, Sam Pilla of Dresden, and Floyd
(Debbie) Pilla of Dresden; a sister, Carolyn Whaley of
Henderson; four grandchildren, Lauren Johnson Sims of
Nashville, Kara Johnson Snider of Nashville, Meredith
Johnson of Dresden, and Jared Johnson of Knoxville; four
step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
Jerry Lee Box
Jerry Lee Box, 76, of Greenfield, died Friday, June 23,
2006, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. Funeral services
for Mr. Box were held Sunday, June 25, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at
Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in
Morris Cemetery in Greenfield. Dr. Roy Whaley officiated the
services.
Mr. Box worked for B&R Gear. He was born September 4,
1929 in Sharon to the late Wilburn Box and Mirler Jones. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Box was also preceded in death
by his wife, Ann Box.
Mr. Box is survived by three sons, Jeral Box of
Greenfield, Dave Box of Milan, and Tom Box of Greenfield;
two brothers, Ed Box of Greenfield, and Ray Box of
Cookeville, Tennessee; eleven grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren. John Richard
Davis, II
John Richard Davis, II, 75, of Oak View, California,
formerly of Dresden, died June 9, 2006, in Oak View.
Memorial services were held in Oak View. The body was
cremated.
Mr. Davis was born October 9, 1930, in Dresden, son of
the late Vollie O'Neal Davis and Mrs. Arline Moore Davis. He
was a Vietnam veteran, serving four years in the Navy and 19
years in the Air Force. He retired from the military August
31, 1971, at McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington,
and moved his family back to Oak View.
Mr. Davis is survived by his four daughters, Theresa
Barbara Buckland of Oak View, California, Mary Rose Davis of
Tacoma, Washington, Catherine Arline Stanley of Ventura,
California, and Diana Marie Nachtsheim of Woodstock,
Georgia; his sister, Mary Elizabeth Davis Guill of Dresden;
and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Davis was preceded in
death by his wife, Rosalie Belletti Davis; and his brothers,
Edward Douglas Brummitte of Martin and Jerry O'Neal Davis of
Memphis. Lois Cashion Miller
Lois Cashion Miller, 72, of Martin, died Friday, June
23, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mrs. Miller were held Monday, June 26, 2006, at
11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial
followed in Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Paris. Elders Charles
DeMoss and Eddie Hicks officiated the services.
Mrs. Miller had been a supervisor at Kellwood and was
part owner of Miller Country Hams. She was also a member of
Matheny Grove Primitive Baptist Church in Dresden. Mrs.
Miller was a native of Weakley County and the daughter of
the late Jess and Ida Mae Melson Cashon. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Miller was also preceded in death by her
husband, Mr. Glen Rogers Miller.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two stepdaughters, Marsha
Morton of Henry, and Glenda Myers of Hardin, Kentucky; two
sisters, Ollivene C. Hawks of Palmersville, and Geneva
Foster of Dukedom; a niece, Julia Hawks of Martin; three
nephews, Larry Hawks of Ripley, Gary Hawks of Dresden, and
Seldon Cashon of Dresden; four step-grandchildren; and
several great-nieces and great-nephews.
Nona Mae Cantrell
Nona Mae Cantrell, 69, of Greenfield, died
Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at Jackson Madison County
Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Cantrell were held
Friday, June 16, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home
in Greenfield. Burial followed in Meridian Cemetery in
Greenfield. Bro. Bobby O'Dell and Bro. Brent Arnold
officiated the services.
Mrs. Cantrell was a homemaker and attended Greenfield
Church of Christ. She was born January 19, 1937 in
Greenfield to the late Phillip Featherston and Ola Mae
Featherston. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cantrell was
also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Cantrell; and
a son, Ronnie Cantrell.
Mrs. Cantrell is survived by three sons, Terry Cantrell
of Greenfield, Jerry Cantrell of Greenfield, and Donnie
Cantrell of Greenfield; a daughter, Lisa Cantrell Banks of
Greenfield; a sister, Mary Ellen Harris of Sharon; a
brother, Glynn Featherston of Martin; thirteen
grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
