Donnie Keith Beach
Donnie Keith Beach, 52, of Sharon, died Thursday, June
29, 2006, at Lourdes Hospital. Funeral services for Mr.
Beach were held Saturday, July 1, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at
Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in Sharon. Burial followed in
Obion County Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Beach was born August 19, 1953 in Murray, Kentucky.
Mr. Beach is survived by his wife, Judith Beach of
Sharon; a son, James Beach of Lexington, Kentucky; two
daughters, Wendy Thompson of Martin, and Jessica Wright of
Hendersonville; his father, Edwin Beach of Murray, Kentucky;
his mother, Ruth Beach of Benton, Kentucky; a brother, Eddie
Beach of Benton, Kentucky; two sisters, Sharon Crouch of
Murray, Kentucky, and Phyllis Terry of Lowes, Kentucky; his
grandmother, Cora Story of Puryear; and five grandchildren.
Dorotha Jean (Oliver) Norton
Dorotha Jean (Oliver) Norton, 68, of Kenton, a
professor of speech and communications at the University of
Tennessee at Martin and an English teacher at the former
Kenton High School, died June 23, 2006, in Memphis. Services
were held Tuesday, June 27, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Kenton
First Baptist Church, where she was an active and dedicated
member. Karnes-Thompson Funeral Home in Kenton was in charge
of arrangements.
Mrs. Norton was the daughter of the late Lacey A. and
Pearl Oliver and had been married to Robert Marion Norton,
who survives, for 48 years. She received her Bachelor's
degree in education from Union University in Jackson and
completed her Master's degree at Murray State University in
Kentucky and the University of Memphis. She had taught
voice, diction and public speaking and had joined the
faculty at UTM in 1966. She had received the 2006 Coffey
Outstanding Teacher Award and the 2005 University of
Tennessee National Alumni Association Outstanding Teacher
Award. Recently alumni leaders in communications established
a scholarship endowment in her name for outstanding students
in the UT Martin communications department. She had also
been named Speech Educator of the Year by the Tennessee
Communication Association.
Survivors also include her daughter and son-in-law,
Robbie (Norton) and Larry Eddings of Kenton; her son and
daughter-in-law, Ron and Angela Norton of Memphis; and three
grandchildren, Coby Eddings, Bryn Norton and Conleigh
Norton.
The family requests that memorials be made to Professor
Dorotha Norton Scholarship Endowment, University of
Tennessee at Martin. James Lee Joyce
James Lee Joyce, 68, died Thursday, June 29, 2006, at
Jackson Madison County General Hospital. A memorial service
will be held Friday, July 7, 2006, at 3:00 p.m. at Hodges
Chapel in Palmersville.
Mr. Joyce, an electrician, was born August 4, 1937 in
Lansing, Michigan, to the late Leo and Ellen Spring Joyce.
Survivors include: his wife, Doris Jean Taylor; two
sons, Tracy Joyce and Kevin Joyce; one daughter, Kimberly
Barbie; one sister, Jean Joyce; six grandchildren; and one
great-grandchild.
Memorials may be made to the James Joyce Memorial Fund at
First State Bank in Dresden. Paul
Hagood Jones
Paul Hagood Jones, 69, of Palmersville, died Monday,
June 26, 2006, at Martin Health Care and Rehab in Martin.
Funeral services for Mr. Jones were held Thursday, June 29,
2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro.
Richard Carlson officiated the services.
Mr. Jones was a former Weakley County Constable and a
farmer. He was a member of the Dresden Church of Christ,
Tennessee Constables Association, F.O.P., V.F.W., and D.A.V.
Mr. Jones was born in Jay, Florida to the late L.C. and
Gertrude S. Farish Jones. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Jones was also preceded in death by a sister, Sarah F.
Jones.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Pamela Simmons Jones
of Palmersville; two brothers, John Jones of Camden, and
Robert "Mid" Jones of Tremont, Illinois; one niece; five
nephews; four great-nieces; and six great-nephews.
Pauline Gardner Milner
Pauline Gardner Milner, 98, of Martin, died Monday,
June 26, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden.
Funeral services for Mrs. Milner were held Thursday, June
29, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Methodist Church in
Gardner. Burial followed in Gardner Cemetery. Bro. Franklin
Gardner officiated the services.
Mrs. Milner was a retired telephone operator for South
Central Bell and a member of Gardner Methodist Church. She
was born in Jackson to the late Paul Jones and Irene Perkins
Foster Gardner. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Milner was
also preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Roy Lee Milner; a
daughter, Lee Nell Freeman; two sisters, Margaret Simmons
and Mary Brothers; and a brother, Thomas Edward Gardner.
Mrs. Milner is survived by a son, Roy Milner of
McKenzie; four grandchildren, Lisa Freeman of Dresden, Paula
Farris of Dyer, Roy Milner of Camden, and Greg Milner of
Huntingdon; and two great-grandchildren, Amanda Hilliard of
Dyer and Richard Milner of Camden.
