Addie Mae Gallimore Battaglia
Addie Mae Gallimore Battaglia, 85, retired nurse
anesthetist, died on Sunday, February 5, 2006, at Baptist
Medical Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Funeral services
will be today, Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. All
services will be held at Wright and Ferguson Downtown
Jackson.
'Miss' Addie, as she was affectionately known by many, was
born in Dresden, and had resided in Jackson since 1956. She
put herself through undergraduate and graduate school in
Nashville, and Cleveland, Ohio and became a Nurse
Anesthetist in the late 1940's. Highly respected in her
field, she specialized in chest cases and worked with many
of Jackson's finest throughout her career, which spanned
over forty years. She became part of history in that she
performed anesthesia on the first heart transplant operation
at the University Medical Center, where she worked for over
twenty years.
She was married to the late Anthony D. (Tony) Battaglia, and
is survived by her brother, Mr. Clarence Gallimore and his
wife, Evelyn of Dresden; her son, Mr. David Battaglia and
wife Kenitra of Brandon, Mississippi; several beloved nieces
and nephews; five grandchildren; and seven
great-grandchildren.
Huston Roy Winstead
Huston Roy Winstead, 91, of Dresden, died Wednesday,
February 1, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden.
Graveside services for Mr. Winstead were held Friday,
February 3, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at Grove Hill Cemetery in
Dresden. Walter Bennett officiated the services.
Mr. Winstead was a retired farmer and a member of Grove Hill
United Methodist Church. He was a native of Weakley County
and the son of the late W.B. "Pete" and Pernia Virginia
Smith Winstead. In addition to his parents, Mr. Winstead was
also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Winnie Ruth Bowers
Winstead; two sons, Charlie Pete Winstead and Richard D.
Winstead; a sister, LaNell Sturm; and three brothers,
Herman, Joseph and Edward Winstead.
Mr. Winstead is survived by a son, Don Roy Winstead of
Dresden; a brother, Garl Winstead of Dresden; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Marion Fay Twiggs
Marion Fay Twiggs, 60, of Gleason, died Saturday, January
21, 2006, at McKenzie Regional Hospital in McKenzie. Funeral
services for Ms. Twiggs were held Tuesday, January 24, 2006,
at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Suratt Cemetery near Dresden. Freddie Lee
McDaniel, Jr. officiated the services.
Ms. Twiggs was a laborer and a member of New Bethel
Missionary Baptist Church in Henry. She was a native of
Martin. Ms. Twiggs was preceded in death by her father,
Chester Darnell.
Ms. Twiggs is survived by two daughters, Connie Smith of
Martin, and Blinda "Lynnie" Suratt of Paris; two sons,
Dwayne McDaniel of Gleason, and Tracy McDaniel of
Greenfield; her mother, Lorraine Jones Bradberry of Dresden;
three sisters, Diane Harrison of Paris, Torchie Mayo of
Gleason, and Jane Dublin of Dresden; five grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.
Robert W. "Bob" Jeanes
Robert W. "Bob" Jeanes, 86, of the Ralston Community in
Martin, died Thursday, January 19, 2006, at VanAyer Manor
Nursing Home in Martin. Graveside services for Mr. Jeanes
were held Saturday, January 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at East
Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Elwood Doss officiated the
services.
Mr. Jeanes was a retired farmer. He served in the Pacific
Theater during WWII with the United States Army. Mr. Jeanes
was awarded two Bronze Service Stars, a Silver Star Medal,
Bronze Oak Leaf Cluster, and a Purple Heart. He was a member
of Ralston Methodist Church. Mr. Jeanes was born February 7,
1919 in Weakley County to the late Luther P. Jeanes and
Donnie Belle McClain Jeanes. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Jeanes was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Nell
Lemonds Jeanes; and a sister, Mary Ann Walker.
Mr. Jeanes is survived by his caregiver, Hue Wade Killebrew.
Terry Lee Nelson
Terry Lee Nelson, 63, of Sharon, died Thursday, February 2,
2006, at VanAyer Manor and Rehab in Martin. Funeral services
for Mr. Nelson were held Sunday, February 5, 2006, at 2:00
p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in Sharon. Burial followed in
Woodlawn Cemetery. Michael Nelson officiated the services.
Mr. Nelson worked for Greenfield Engineering. He was born
August 11, 1942 in Carrington, North Dakota.
Mr. Nelson is survived by his wife, Betty Nelson of Sharon;
two daughters, Michelle Bond of Miami, Florida, and Teri
Nelson of Sharon; two sons, Michael Nelson of Clarksville,
Tennessee, and Steven Nelson of Cibolo, Texas; his mother,
Valoise Denny of Milan; a brother, Ken Nelson of Milan; and
nine grandchildren.
Cathy Lea Bowlin
Cathy Lea Bowlin, 56, of Dresden, died Saturday,
January 21, 2006, at Centennial Medical Center in Nashville.
Funeral services for Ms. Bowlin were held Tuesday, January
24, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in
Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Dr.
Don McCulley officiated the services.
Ms. Bowlin was a Leather Crafter and a member of First
Baptist Church in Dresden. She was a native of Martin.
Ms. Bowlin is survived by two sons, William Chad Bell of
Nashville, and Steven Clayton Bell of Dresden; her father,
William E. Bowlin of Dresden; her mother, Elaine Estep
Maynard of Gleason; two sisters, Cindy C. Bowlin of Dresden,
and Cheryl L. Wilson of Marietta, Georgia; and six
grandchildren.
Janie Howell Potts
Janie Howell Potts, 68, of Martin, died Sunday,
February 5, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Funeral services for Mrs. Potts will be held today,
Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral
Home in Martin. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in
South Fulton. Rev. Donald Doster will officiate the
services.
Mrs. Potts was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. She was
born May 8, 1937 in Dyer County to the late Lofton Autley
Taylor and Margie Webb.
Mrs. Potts is survived by her husband, Mr. Bill Potts of
Martin; two sons, Jimmy Howell of Martin, and Lynn Howell of
Martin; four stepdaughters, Brenda VanHorne of Nashville,
Pat Jasinsky of Jacksonville, Florida, Pam Workman of
Nashville, and Tammie Potts of Nashville; a brother, Larry
Taylor of Newbern; and one grandson, Stevie Dale Howell.
Reba Opal Little Shirley
Reba Opal Little Shirley, 85, of Bowling Green, Kentucky,
died Monday, February 6, 2006, at Morgantown Care & Rehab
Center in Morgantown, Kentucky. Graveside services for Mrs.
Shirley will be held today, Wednesday, February 8, 2006, at
2:00 p.m. at Bible Union Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Randy
Potts will officiate the services.
Mrs. Shirley was retired from K-Mart in Little Rock,
Arkansas and was a Baptist by faith. She was born March 11,
1920 in Dyer County to the late Vernard Little and Ester
Little. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Shirley was also
preceded in death by her husband, Jay Shirley; and a
daughter, Patricia Treece.
Mrs. Shirley is survived by three daughters, Laquita Gail
Neblett of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Sybil Dover of Horn
Lake, Mississippi, and Yvonne Larkin of Winchester,
Tennessee; two brothers, Abie Joe Buckingham of Humboldt,
and Maylon Buckingham, Jr. of Nashville; sixteen
grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.
Ruby May Pickler
Ruby May Pickler, 91, of Union City, died Tuesday, January
31, 2006, at Union City Manor. Funeral services for Mrs.
Pickler were held Friday, February 3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at
Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in Gleason. Burial followed in
Tumbling Creek Cemetery. Bro. Gerry Gallimore officiated the
services.
Mrs. Pickler was a homemaker. She was born September 11,
1914 in Fulton, Kentucky to the late James Preston Tucker
and Unity Eva (Underwood) Tucker. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Pickler was also preceded in death by her
husband, Chester Pickler; and a son, Roger Pickler.
Mrs. Pickler is survived by a son, Jimmy Pickler of Dresden;
two daughters, Brenda Stafford of Greenfield, and Karen
Calhoun of Union City; five grandchildren; and two
great-grandchildren.
Vera Rankin
Vera Rankin, 87, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006, at
Lexington Health Care Center in Bartlett, Illinois.
Graveside services for Mrs. Rankin were held Saturday,
February 4, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. at Hornbeak Cemetery in
Greenfield.
Mrs. Rankin was born July 29, 1918 in Chester County to the
late Neal Jefferson and Minnie Thomas. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Rankin was also preceded in death by her
husband, Raymond Rankin.
Mrs. Rankin is survived by three sons, Terry Rankin of
Bartlett, Illinois, Samuel Rankin of Bells, Tennessee, and
Raymond Rankin of Aurora, Illinois; and a daughter, Mary Ann
Ross of Glendale Height, Illinois.
