Charles Robert Hawks
Charles Robert Hawks, 54, of Greenfield, died Tuesday,
February 14, 2006 at the Regional Hospital in Jackson.
Graveside services for Mr. Hawks were held Friday, February
17, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at the Tansil Cemetery with burial
following. Roy Whaley officiated the services. Gardner
Funeral Home of Sharon was in charge of the arrangements.
Mr. Hawks was born on March 4, 1951 in Chicago,
Illinois.
Mr. Hawks is survived by his wife, Shirley Hawks of
Greenfield; a son James Hawks of Greenfield; and two
brothers, Bill Hawks of Knoxville and Chris Hawks of
Harvard, Illinois.
Douglas Thomas Darnell
Douglas Thomas Darnell, 68, of Dresden, died
Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Martin Health Care. Funeral
services for Mr. Darnell were held Tuesday, February 14,
2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Larry
Powers officiated the services.
Mr. Darnell was a carpenter and a veteran of the United
States Army. He was a Baptist by faith. Mr. Darnell was born
in Dresden to the late Paul and Jessie Bell Call Darnell. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Darnell was also preceded in
death by three sisters, Betty Codey, Peggy Darnell, and
Janie Mullins.
Mr. Darnell is survived by two sons, Joe Franklin
Darnell of Bradford, and David Darnell of Bradford; two
brothers, Joe Darnell of Martin, and Jackie Darnell of
Dresden; and two grandchildren.
Ethel Jenkins
Ethel Jenkins, 79, of Greenfield died Friday, February
17, 2006, at the Jackson Madison County Hospital. Services
for Ms. Jenkins were held Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at
3:00 p.m. in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in
the Meridian Cemetery in Greenfield. Billy Garner officiated
the services.
Ms. Jenkins work for World Color for 16 years. She
attended Moore Chapel Baptist Church. Ms. Jenkins was born
May 18, 1926 in Ridgely, Tennessee.
Ms. Jenkins is survived by three daughters, Annie Sue
(Jenkins) Peevyhouse of Greenfield, Mary Cummings of
Greenfield and Helen Nash of Mesquite, Texas; two sons,
David Jenkins of Greenfield and Junior Jenkins of
Greenfield; 20 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.
Gerald Mike Nanney, Sr.
Gerald Mike Nanney, Sr., 89, of the Chestnut Glade
Community, died Monday, February 13, 2006, at Martin
Healthcare Center. Funeral services for Mr. Nanney were held
Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Hornbeak
Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial followed in New Hope
Cemetery in the Chestnut Glade Community. Rev. Harold Irvan
officiated the services.
Mr. Nanney was a veteran of the United States
Army having served in WWII with Patton's Army. He was a
retired farmer and was a lifelong member of the New Hope
Methodist Church, where he was very active in church
affairs. He was also very active in the National Farmers
Organization for many years. Mr. Nanney was born May 7, 1916
in Weakley County and was a lifelong resident of the
Chestnut Glade Community. He was preceded in death by his
wife, Mary F. (Taylor) Nanney; his parents, James Burnett
"Pomp" Nanney and Flarra Ellen (Felts) Nanney; a grandson;
and four brothers, Minard Nanney, David Nanney, Paul Nanney,
and Pat Nanney.
Mr. Nanney is survived by four daughters, Peggy
McKinney of South Fulton, Patsy Beale of Martin, Pansy Baker
of Martin, and Paula Bell of Martin; a son, Gerald M. Nanney,
Jr. of Chestnut Glade; ten grandchildren; sixteen
great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and two
sisters, Madge Conner of South Fulton, and Ruth Mortimer of
Silver Springs, Maryland.
Joan Marie Coday
Joan Marie Coday, 69, of Dresden, died Saturday,
February 18, 2006, at Vanderbilt Medical Center in
Nashville. Funeral services for Mrs. Coday were held
Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral
Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Union Grove
Cemetery in Kenton. Bro. Terry Griffin officiated the
services.
Mrs. Coday was a housekeeper at Weakley County Nursing
Home and was a member of Bible Union Baptist Church near
Dresden. She was born in Chicago, Illinois to the late
Arthur and Gladys Doyle McKenna. In addition to her parents,
Mrs. Coday was also preceded in death by her husband, Willis
Junior Coday.
Mrs. Coday is survived by a daughter, Mary Abazaid of
Dresden; three sons, Donald Coday of Mayfield, Kentucky,
Brian Coday of Pleasantville, Tennessee, and Danny Coday of
Ft. Walton Beach, Florida; a brother, Charles McKenna of
Milwaukee, Wisconsin; thirteen grandchildren; and eleven
great-grandchildren.
Juanita Copeland
Juanita Copeland, 93, of South Fulton, formerly of
Fulton, died Sunday, February 12, 2006, at Haws Memorial
Nursing Home in Fulton. Funeral services for Mrs. Copeland
were held Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at
Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial followed in Oak
Grove Cemetery. Bro. Cecil May, III, officiated the
services.
Mrs. Copeland was a member of the Parkway Church of
Christ and had been a Licensed Practical Nurse for the Haws
Memorial Nursing Home. She was born September 5, 1912 in
Jackson and had lived in this area most of her life. Mrs.
Copeland was preceded in death by her husband, Harold
Copeland; her parents, Rueul (R.A.) Barger and Willie
Clementine (McMin) Barger; and a brother, Amos Barger.
Mrs. Copeland is survived by a sister, Martha Maness of
Desoto, Missouri; a sister-in-law, Estelle Copeland of
Martin; nephews and nieces, Reuel Barger of Mustang,
Colorado, Virgil Maness of Arlington, Virginia, Sam Maness
of Rifle, Colorado, James Maness of Desoto, Missouri, Joe
Maness of Desoto, Missouri, Elizabeth Maness of Herford,
Texas, Maxine Martin, Willie May Badulato of St. Louis,
Missouri, Bobby Barger of St. Louis, Missouri, Jerry Barger
of St. Louis, Missouri, Terrie Wayde of Bolware Island,
Texas, Mike White of Peoria, Illinois, Pat Barger of
Pacific, Missouri, Edward Barger of Miami, Florida, Garry
Copeland of Union City, and Billy Copeland of Dyersburg;
several cousins and other relatives.
Annie Mai Dinwiddie Beecham
Annie Mai Dinwiddie Beecham, 89, of Largo, Florida,
died Friday, February 17, 2006 at the Barrington Terrace
Personal Care Home in Largo. Services for Mrs. Beecham were
held Tuesday, February 21, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. in the Murphy
Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery.
Rev. John Earl Hazelwood officiated the services.
Mrs. Beecham worked for Martin Manufacturing Company
and was retired from General Motors Corporation after 30
years of service. Mrs. Beecham was a member of the Indian
Rocks Baptist Church in Largo, Florida. She was born
September 28, 1916 to the late George Dinwiddie and Lena Lee
Dinwiddie. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Beecham was
preceded in death by her husband, William Beecham; a
brother, Thomas Dinwiddie and three sisters, Odel Clark,
Rozelle Humphrey and Birdie Graf.
Mrs. Beecham is survived by two sons, Donald Beecham of
Largo, Florida and William (Buddy) Beecham of Tecumseh,
Michigan; four grandchildren; two step grandchildren; 12
great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Bernice T. Richter
Bernice T. Richter, 89, of Martin, died Monday,
February 13, 2006, at her home. Services for Mrs. Richter
were held Friday, February 17, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. in the
Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial was in New
Hope in Latham. Bro. Terry Griffin and Bro. Dwayne Harris
officiated the services.
Mrs. Richter was a homemaker. She was born in
Torrington, Connecticut to the late Carl Parylak and
Caroline Patla Brown. She was a Catholic. In addition to her
parents Mrs. Richter was preceded in death by her husband,
Roy R. Richter.
Mrs. Richter is survived by one grandchild and one
great-grandchild.
Michele Lynn Davis Dortch
Michele Lynn Davis Dortch, 35 of Martin, died Sunday,
February 19, 2006 at the Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Services for Mrs. Dortch were held today, Wednesday,
February 22, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. in the Murphy Funeral Home
Chapel. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery. Rev. John Earl
Hazelwood officiated the services.
Mrs. Dortch was employed at Martin Manufacturing
Company/Fechheimer. She was a member of Victory Baptist
Church. Mrs. Dortch was born May 26, 1970 in Jackson,
Michigan.
Mrs. Dortch is survived by her husband, Mr. John David
Dortch of Martin; two sons, David Dortch of Martin and Gary
Dortch of Martin; a daughter, Melinda Dortch of Martin; her
father, Gary Davis of Martin; her mother, Linda Lee Daris
Davis of Martin; three brothers, David Davis of New Orleans,
Louisiana; Steven Davis of Martin and Todd Davis of Jackson,
Michigan; two sisters, Sonya Wickens of Chelsea, Michigan
and Peggy Sue Gardner of Greenfield; and her paternal
grandmother, Mrs. Martha Davis of Jackson, Michigan.
Patricia Ann Adams
Patricia Ann Adams, 59, of McKenzie, died Wednesday,
February 15, 2006, at McKenzie Regional Hospital. Graveside
services for Mrs. Adams were held Friday, February 17, 2006,
at Caledonia Cemetery. Guy Stallcup officiated the services.
Mrs. Adams was a homemaker. She was born July 6, 1946
in McKenzie to the late Clyde Newton and Mary Lee (Nanney)
Blaylock.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her husband, John Adams; a
son, John Keith Adams of Sumrall, Mississippi; a daughter,
Marla Crenshaw of McKenzie; a brother, Larry Blaylock of
McKenzie; two sisters, Mary Francis Bishop of Jackson, and
Debra Bynum of Gleason; and six grandchildren.
Patricia Ann Gattis Hill
Patricia Ann Gattis Hill, 67, of Dukedom, died Friday,
February 10, 2006. Funeral services for Mrs. Hill were held
Tuesday, February 14, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Hornbeak Funeral
Chapel in Fulton. Burial followed in Union Cemetery in
Fulton. Rev. Stephen Webb, Rev. Debbie Webb, and Rev. Robert
Goodwin officiated the services.
Mrs. Hill was a homemaker and author of "Grany Tailes
Children's Stories." She was a member of the former
Palestine Methodist Church in Fulton and attended Good
Springs Presbyterian Church in Dukedom. She was a volunteer
in the area school districts, was a coach for softball and
baseball, League Secretary of Jet Lanes Bowling Alley for 23
years, was past president of the PTA at Cayce Elementary
School, and was a room mother. Mrs. Hill was born July 31,
1938 in Hardin County, Tennessee, and had lived in the
Fulton area most of her life. She was preceded in death by
her parents, Joseph Vester "Judge" Gattis and Ethel Margaret
(Brown) Gattis; a son, Jerry Allen Hill, who died in 1964; a
great-grandson; three sisters; and two brothers.
Mrs. Hill is survived by her husband of fifty-one
years, Elgie Dick Hill, whom she married November 30, 1954;
three daughters, Sandy Sadler of Dresden, Kathy A. Smith of
Hickman, Kentucky, and Tammie Pilgrim of Gilroy, California;
a son, Dennis Hill of Dukedom; seven grandchildren; four
great-grandchildren; three brothers, Harry Gattis of
Savannah, Tennessee, Charles Gattis of Crump, Tennessee, and
Billie Gattis of Fort Smith, Arkansas; and a sister, Alta
Bryson of Savannah, Tennessee.
Patsy Darlene Sanders
Patsy Darlene Sanders, 59, of Gleason, died Wednesday,
February 15, 2006. Burial was in Summerville Baptist
Cemetery in Summerville, Louisiana.
Mrs. Sanders was a retired Postmaster. She was born
June 15, 1946 in Jena, Louisiana to the late Henry Robert
and Hettie Mae (Vickers) Quaid.
Mrs. Sanders is survived by her husband, Jerry Sanders;
a son, Bradley Stewart of Jena, Louisiana; a daughter,
Bredgitt Walker of Leander, Texas; a stepdaughter, Lisa
Vaughn of Gleason; two brothers, Henry Quaid of Georgetown,
Louisiana, and James Quaid of Nokesville, Virginia; and four
grandchildren.
