Billy Joe Davis
Billy Joe Davis, 74, of Dresden, died Saturday,
December 2, 2006, at Jackson Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services for Mr. Davis were held Tuesday,
December 5, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Bradberry Cemetery in
Dresden. Bro. Sam Swanson officiated the services.
Mr. Davis was a retired machinist for B&R Gear in
Sharon and a member of the Bible Tabernacle Church in
Dresden. He was a native of Weakley County and the son of
the late Adran V. and Lera Lee Bradberry Davis.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Mrs. Arlene Blanche
Dugas Davis of Dresden; a daughter, Tanya Jolley (Rory
Baker) of Dresden; a stepdaughter, Diane Marie Schuster; a
son, Timothy Davis of Spooner, Wisconsin; four stepsons,
Rene' Brouillette, Robert Brouillette, William Brouillette,
and Joseph L. Brouillette; eight grandchildren, Brandon,
Zach and Dillon Jolley, Gena, Jason, Clayton, Nathan and
Desire' Davis; eight step-grandchildren; three
great-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Everett Lynn Cook
Everett Lynn Cook, 87, of Dresden, died Friday,
November 29, 2006, at Jackson Madison County General
Hospital. Funeral services for Cook were held Friday,
December 1, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home
Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in New Hope Cemetery in
Latham. Bro. Dewayne Harris officiated the services.
Mr. Cook was a Security Guard for International
Harvester and a member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was a
native of Lake County and the son of the late Edwin and Mary
Baker Cook. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was also
preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Carlean Bowlin Cook.
Mr. Cook is survived by a son, Roger (Terri) Cook of
Dresden; a sister, Mary Gangola of Palmer, Ohio; five
grandchildren, Roger Cook, Jr., Trisha and Jason Cook, Mandy
Warren and Mrs. Brian Delmont; and six great-grandchildren.
George D. Ballard
George D. Ballard, 71, of Sharon, died Friday, November
24, 2006, at Jackson Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral services for Mr. Ballard were held Monday, November
27, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home Chapel in
Sharon. Burial followed in Alamo Cemetery. Rev. Donald
Doster officiated the services.
Mr. Ballard was a mechanic. He was born October 11,
1935.
Mr. Ballard is survived by his wife, Belinda Ballard of
Sharon; five sons, Clinton Ballard of Waverly, David Ballard
of Sharon, Matthew Ballard of Sharon, Michael Ballard of
Sharon, and Tommy Ballard of Waverly; a daughter, Rose
(Billy) Pirtle of Waverly; a brother, Daniel E. Ballard of
Chicago, Illinois; a sister, Stella Faul of Little Rock,
Arkansas; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Jack Simmons
Jack Simmons, 80, of Murfreesboro, died Saturday,
November 25, 2006 at Boulevard Terrace Nursing Center.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, November 27, 2006
at Murfreesboro Funeral Home in Murfreesboro with Rev. Eddie
Smotherman officiating. Burial followed in Evergreen
Cemetery.
He was a McKenzie native and retired as an educator
with the Department of Education. He was a member of Trinity
United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Brown
and Irene Billington Simmons.
Survivors include: his wife, Mazie E. Simmons of
Murfreesboro; two sons, Jack (Kathy) Simmons of Nashville,
and Larry (SuzAnne) Simmons of Brentwood; one daughter,
Vicki Cawthorn of Christiana; three grandchildren, Sherri
Simmons, Scott Simmons, and Ryan Cawthorn; one sister,
Shirley (Jack) Martin of McKenzie; and two nieces.
James (Dink) Crosser Billingsby
James (Dink) Crosser Billingsby, of West Paterson, New
Jersey, was born December 3, 1918 and died November 28 at
the age of 87. He is survived by his wife, Bunny Billingsby
of West Paterson, New Jersey; sons, Lee Billingsby of
Fairview Heights, Illinois, Dennis Billingsby of
Perrineville, New Jersey, Keith Billingsby of Bridgewater,
New Jersey; two daughters, Valerie Rose of Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina, and Allison Billingsby of West Paterson, New
Jersey; eleven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Chatham Church of Christ in Chatham, New
Jersey.
He was preceded in death by his parents, G.L. and Ida
Crosser Billingsby; brother, Flavil Billingsby; and a
sister, Annie Lou Story. Surviving are brothers, Howard
Billingsby and John Billingsby of Dresden; sisters, Pauline
Walker of Martin, Reggie Roney of Gallatin, and Sue Harper
of Franklin.
A veteran of WWII, he served in Company A of the 37th
Tank Battalion of the Fourth Armored Division, the spearhead
of Patton's famed Third Army. He fought in 5 major battles
and was one of the two survivors of his original company. He
was a retired supervisor of White Castle in New York.
He was buried with full military honors at Hatler's
Chapel Church of Christ with Carl Harper officiating.
Stella F. Michael
Stella F. Michael, 82, of Dresden, died Friday,
December 1, 2006, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden.
Funeral services for Ms. Michael were held Sunday, December
3, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Hornbeak Cemetery in
Greenfield. Joe Lusby officiated the services.
Ms. Michael attended the First Baptist Church. She was
born June 21, 1924 in Greenfield to the late Alton (Buster)
Smith and Maxie Sullivan.
Ms. Michael is survived by three sons, Joe David
Michael of Springville, Tennessee, Rickey Michael of
Jackson, and Tony Michael of Bradford; four daughters,
Barbara (Michael) Powell of Springville, Tennessee, Deborah
(Michael) Batcheider of Jacksonville, Florida, Gail
(Michael) Parker of Jackson, and Leishia (Michael) Castleman
of Huntingdon; a sister, Betty Wright of Milan; seventeen
grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Terry Lynn Dillard
Terry Lynn Dillard, 51, of Dresden, died Tuesday,
November 28, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Dillard were held Friday,
December 1, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Harmony Baptist Church in
Dresden. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro.
Robert Johnson officiated the services.
Mr. Dillard was a Baptist by faith and a veteran of the
United States Army. He was a native of St. Louis, Missouri
and the son of Donald Ray and Aline Long Dillard.
Mr. Dillard is survived by two daughters, Stepanie
Castleman of Christmasville, Tennessee, and Stacey Thomas of
Murray, Kentucky; a son, Donald E. Dillard of Dresden; his
parents, Don and Aline Dillard of Dresden; five brothers,
Randy Eugene Dillard of Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Ray
Dillard of Dresden, Kenneth Lee Dillard of Dresden, Jack D.
Dillard of Dresden, and Jeffrey A. Dillard of Dresden; and
seven grandchildren.
Thelma Ruth Palmer
Thelma Ruth Palmer, 81, of Dresden, died Sunday,
November 26, 2006, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Palmer were held
Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin
Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial followed in Grove
Hill Cemetery near Dresden. Bro. Donald Doster officiated
the services.
Mrs. Palmer was a housewife and a Baptist by faith. She
was a native of Clintwood, Virginia and the daughter of the
late Walter E. and Nola Kizzah Beverly. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Palmer was also preceded in death by her
husband, Mr. Herschel Thomas Palmer; and a brother, Elmer
Beverly.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by a daughter, Patricia Jean
Stout of Cordova, Tennessee; two sons, Thomas E. Palmer of
Dresden, and Robert L. Palmer of Dresden; a sister, Hazel
Browning of Springfield, Tennessee; a brother, Ray Beverly
of San Diego, California; nine grandchildren; and twelve
great-grandchildren.
