Fred's
Supercenter coming to Dresden |
After several years
of stagnation as far as industrial development is concerned,
things are starting to happen in the City of Dresden with
the announcement of new industry and retail businesses
moving into town. Another bit of good news was made public
Friday afternoon, when Dresden Mayor Danny Forrester
announced that a new Fred’s Supercenter would be coming to
Dresden in the near future.
Fred’s officials
indicated that the store would be approximately 16,000
square feet in size with a full line pharmacy.
The new supercenter
will be located on a two-acre lot adjacent to McCauley’s
Chevrolet on Hwy. 22 in Dresden.
Mayor Forrester
expressed his appreciation to the members of his development
team that played a significant role in accomplishing this
goal.
Junior Moore, a very
active member of the Dresden Industrial Board, was cited for
his initial aggressiveness in getting Fred’s interested in
Dresden.
Wendell Alexander,
real estate representative for landowner Jackie Darnell,
worked with Fred’s in executing options and other documents
during the feasibility stage of development. Both Alexander
and Darnell played key roles in finalizing the project.
“This is what I have
always tried to do in Dresden, to have local citizens work
hand-in-hand with me to develop projects which benefit all
the citizens of Dresden,” Forrester said. “I hope to
continue this leadership approach, because, by all working
together, we can accomplish great things. The new Fred’s is
another step in that direction.”

Dresden
Industrial Board approves preliminary spec building proposal |
During Friday morning’s meeting of the
Dresden Industrial Board, members voted unanimously to move
forward with a proposed spec building to be built building
at Dresden Industrial Park by a private developer at no
expense to the City of Dresden or the Dresden Industrial
Board. The construction of the spec building would be a draw
for new businesses coming to Dresden, and once occupied by
an industry, would provide more jobs for area citizens.
The board’s action
was in response to a business proposition submitted by Brett
T. Setzer, president of Setzer Properties, LLC of Lexington,
Kentucky in a letter dated September 8, 2006. The letter
from Mr. Setzer outlines the general terms of the agreement
as follows:
Setzer Properties, LLC
will construct a 50,000 sq. ft. shell building to consist of
building foundation, gravel floor, temporary lights,
combination masonry and metal walls, standing seam roof,
five dock doors and one each drive-in door.
The building will be
250 ft. by 200 ft. with a 24 to 30 ft. eave height
(whichever the Dresden Industrial Board decides on in the
final draft) with expansion capabilities of an additional
50,000 sq. ft.

Two arrested
on attempted burglary & weapons charges |
Martin Police
officers arrested two Obion County men on Saturday,
September 16, after allegedly catching them attempting to
break into a home on Ivie Circle.
According to a press
release from Martin Police Captain Scott Robbins, the two
females who reside at that address called 911 at 3:30 a.m.
and said that two men were trying to gain access to the
residence through a window and the front door. When
Patrolman Mark Rushing and Lieutenant Jason Arant of the
Martin Police Department arrived at the scene, they found
two men outside of the Ivie Circle residence, who were
identified as 24 year-old Christopher Hale of 3887 Clovert
Road and 21 year-old Robert Reavis of 273 Short Street in
Hornbeak Tennessee.
During questioning,
the officers learned that Christopher Hale had been in a
previous dating relationship with one of the females inside
the residence. Also, Reavis’ drivers license was found stuck
in the doorjamb of the front door where he had been
attempting to gain entry. Additionally, the officers found
three guns inside of Reavis’ vehicle, including a Walther
P22 .22 caliber gun, a Smith & Wesson .9 MM handgun and a
Glock 17 .9 MM handgun. An inspection of the weapons
revealed that the Smith & Wesson was loaded. Reavis informed
the officers that all of the weapons belonged to him.
