Martin man dies from injuries sustained in two-vehicle crash

A Martin man has died of injuries he received in a two-vehicle accident in Martin on Sunday November 19.

James Aubrey (Jay) Jackson III, 25, of 59 East Peach Street, Apt. A, in Martin was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville Friday, November 24, as a result of injuries he sustained in a traffic crash.

As reported in last week’s Dresden Enterprise, a report filed by Patrolman Chris Finch of the Martin Police Department states that at approximately 3:45 p.m. on the day of the crash, Kyle A. Bond, 18, of 336 Spring Street in Huntingdon was traveling west on Gardner-Hyndsver Road in a 2001 Ford Ranger, when he admittedly ran a stop sign at the intersection of Skyhawk Parkway (State Route Hwy. 43), saying that he did not see the sign. This resulted in Bond’s truck being struck by a southbound 1999 Ford F-150 pickup, driven by Jackson.

Officer Finch states that Jackson’s vehicle appears to have left the roadway following the impact. The truck then struck a utility light pole, and came to rest in a field in the southwest corner of the intersection adjacent to State Route Hwy. 43.

Jackson, who was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from his vehicle during the crash, was transported to Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin and then airlifted to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville via helicopter.

Bond, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Volunteer Community Hospital where he was treated for non-incapacitating injuries.

A witness traveling behind Bond’s vehicle confirmed that Bond failed to stop at the stop sign, and was struck by Jackson’s oncoming vehicle.

Bond was cited for failing to yield right-of-way. And, there is also the matter of $400 in damage to the breakaway aluminum light pole.

Both vehicles, which were damaged extensively, had to be towed from the scene.
