Westview cheerleaders 2nd in nation

Westview cheerleading squad was one of sixty squads to compete Saturday, February 11, in the large high school division preliminaries held in Orlando, Florida. The field of 60 was divided into groups A and B with each group sending the top two teams directly to the finals. Westview performed a near perfect routine and earned one of the two positions in-group B to advance to the finals.
Another 26 squads moved to semi-finals held the following day. After a rigorous scoring process, 15 qualified to join the elite four for the finals that Sunday evening.
The excitement for the 16 Westview contingency increased during the awards ceremony each time a name was announced, as it slowly and surely became evident Westview was in the top 10, then the top 5, and finally number 2 in the nation. Claiming the national title was Dunbar High School from Lexington, Kentucky. Dunbar is also the squad to be featured in a reality series to be aired next month on the Lifetime network.
Westview's finish this year is even more impressive when you compare to last year's third place (Super Large High School Division) in which the total squads vying for the national title was 34. Head Coach David Byars expressed his pride in the squad's performance stating, "Our girls responded just as we had asked, - to give their best." He went on to say; "We knew that with the number of squads competing along with the size of some of the schools participating that it would be a tough road. However, our girls faced the challenge and I am very proud of their accomplishment."

A Dresden man was arrested in connection with recent break-ins of Pizza USA and The Coffee Cup in downtown Dresden.
According to Dresden Chief of Police Jerry Wilson, William Lee White, 35, 244 South Poplar Street, was charged with burglary and vandalism after confessing to the break-ins.
Chief Wilson states that at approximately 3:18 a.m. February 15, Pizza USA, located at 206 West Main Street, was burglarized and vandalized. Dresden P.D. officers Bill Weatherall and Clay Anderson, who worked the burglary, discovered the business was entered through a bathroom window in the rear of the building. There was nothing taken in the incident, however, three windows in the front of the restaurant were shattered. Evidence at the scene indicated that the perpetrator had been cut on the sharp glass.
At approximately 4:42 a.m. Wednesday, it was discovered that the glass was broken out of the front door at The Coffee Cup, located at 114 North Wilson Street on the east side of the court square in Dresden. However, entry was not gained.

According to a report filed by Trooper James Ford of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 35-year-old Michele Lynn Dortch of 500 Hyndsver Road, Martin was traveling west on Hyndsver Road when she lost control of her Jeep Cherokee along an iced-over section of roadway as she was attempting to maneuver a curve about one mile West of Weakley Road.
