Huntingdon pounds Gleason
Lady Dawgs 14-0 |
By J. R. Peevyhouse

The Gleason Lady Bulldogs took a few lumps on Monday
afternoon. Though the Lady Bulldogs played sound defense at
times, the Huntingdon Filly bats were just too much for the
Gleason girls as Huntingdon defeated Gleason 14-0 in a
five-inning contest.
After falling behind 2-0 after one inning, the Lady Dawgs
were able to shutout the Fillies in the second inning,
getting three straight ground outs to end the inning.
However, the Lady Dawgs did not fair well either, going down
in order in the bottom of the second.
But, if the Lady Bulldogs had any thoughts of keeping the
game close, they were put to rest in the top of the third
inning. Ashley Porter led off the frame with a single. After
a walk put Casey Henson on base with no outs, Porter scored
on a passed ball. After a Jessica Carlton single, Courtney
Henson reached on an error to score Casey Henson. Carlton
advanced home moments later on a passed ball to make the
score 5-0. Two batters later, Courtney Henson scored on a
Keliea Sullivan single to widen the lead to six runs. After
Amanda Clark reached on an error that scored Sullivan, she
was tagged out at second on a double steal that allowed
Candace Sellers to score, putting the Fillies up 8-0 after
three innings.
The Lady Bulldogs were retired in order again in the bottom
of the third and the Fillies went back on the offensive in
the top of the fourth.
For the second straight inning, Porter led off the frame
with a single and scored later on a passed ball. After a
Casey Henson single, Carlton tripled to score her teammate,
then advanced home moments later to make the score 11-0
after the top of the fourth inning.
The Fillies added to their lead one last time in the top of
the fifth. A two-run double from Carlton plated Porter (who
had tripled to leadoff the inning) and Casey Henson (who
singled) pushed the Filly lead to 13 runs. Carlton scored on
a passed ball later in the inning to make the score 14-0.

Bradford squeaks past Dresden |
By J. R. Peevyhouse
Sports EditorThe Bradford Red Devils proved to
be unfriendly hosts on Monday afternoon as they handed the
Dresden Lions a 5-3 setback at Bradford.
Bradford got on the board early in the first inning. After a
single by Mathis and a fielder's choice by Thetford,
Proudfit scored both teammates on a two-run double to give
the Red Devils a 2-0 lead.
After keeping the Lions off the board again in the second
inning, the Red Devils added to their lead in the bottom of
the second as Terry got a homerun to make the score 3-0
after two innings.

As the Dresden Lions neared the end of the season this
past week, the Lions got a taste of what their 2006 district
schedule will be like as they faced the Halls Tigers on
Saturday and the Union City Tornadoes on Thursday.
Both teams will be in District 14-A, along with Dresden,
next season.
Halls Tigers 8
Dresden Lions 1
The Lions got in a matinee on Saturday afternoon, but fell
8-1 to the Tigers, who the Lions faced almost a year ago for
a regional title.
The Tigers got on the board in the top of the third inning
as Dudas got a two-run double to make the score 2-0 in favor
of the visitors.
Dresden Lions 4
Union City Tornadoes 2
The Dresden Lions were able to get a win over what will be a
tough district opponent in 2006, defeating Union City on the
road 4-2.
The Tornadoes were able to take an early lead, as a lead off
single by Graham led to him scoring on a passed ball to make
the score 1-0 in favor of Union City.
Two innings later, the Tornadoes added to that lead as they
added a run in the bottom of the third to make the score
2-0.
