Dresden baseball dominates Greenfield, 15-5

By Rory Higgins
Sports Writer

Following their victory over the Yellowjackets the
previous day at Callins Park, the Dresden Lions hosted
the Greenfield boys last Tuesday afternoon. Much like
the day before, the Lions came out on top, ending at
the sixth inning, 15-5.
In the first couple innings, Dresden put in two
points for each inning while shutting down Greenfield
after four batters in the first and going three up and
three down in the second.
The first innings' scores were batted in by a single
from Wil Levister. Both Matt Thomas and Adam Clements
made it home during that hit.
The two runs in the second were made by runs from
Randy Williams and Matt Clements.
Into the third inning, Jonathan Dethloff made a base
hit and was followed by Davidson and Aaron Conley drawing walks to load the bases.
Adam Ledezma hit a single to rotate Dethloff home
with the next at-bat.
However, Greenfield did not come out so well with
the next batter as second baseman Levister tagged out
Ledezma as he ran between first and second and then
tossed the ball to first for a groundout and a double
play.
Meanwhile, despite the two outs occurring, E.
Davidson still made it home to make the score 4-2. The
third inning ended for the 'Jackets with the next
batter after a groundout to first from Matt Thomas.
Dresden went on to earn five more points in the
bottom of the third, kicking things off with a triple
out to right field from Jesse James, the first batter
up. James was brought home shortly after a single from
M. Clements, who also made it home as Dresden started
making some solid base hits.
Shortly after A. Clements made it home after a wild
pitch, the third inning was cut off by a groundout
from Colin Medling to first followed by a caught out
from Justin Lyles for the third out.
With the score 9-2, Dresden was not far off from
ending this game early, but Greenfield showed they
still had some fight left in them in the fourth
quarter as Jakob Perkins brought home Lyles, who was,
in turn, brought home later on by a hit from E.
Davidson.
Three quick infield caught outs ended the bottom of
the fourth after only four batters for Dresden.
The Yellowjackets continued to add to their score
into the fifth inning as Aaron Davidson made it home
in the midst of confusion occurred by him and Lyles'
simultaneous base steal attempts.
Despite coming back a bit to make the score 9-5,
Dresden came back to end the game in the sixth after
three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Opening the bottom of the fifth, A. Clements hit a
homerun. Derek Hansen and Levister provided the other
two runs in the inning after Hansen made it home after
an error during Levister's hit.
Levister made it home after a base hit from M.
Clements.
In the final inning which Dresden gained a ten-point
lead to end the game early, Thomas hit a triple out to
right field shortly after Perkins caught out the last
batter's hit.
M. Clements followed this with a double out to left
field to bring Thomas home. M. Clements subsequently
made it around the bases after Ryan Smith belted out a
double.
A point away and center fielder Grooms
caught the next batter's hit to now make it two outs.
But, Levister put an end to things after a hit out to
left field, in which Smith made it home.
The final score was 15-5, Dresden.

Gleason falls to UC Lady Tornadoes
By Rory Higgins
Sports Writer

As clouds covered the sky and the wind blew quite a
bit, the show went on as the Gleason Lady Bulldogs
visited the Union City Lady Golden Tornadoes on Monday
afternoon.
Despite it looking like it wanted to rain, the
Gleason girls started off right at 4:30 with Lacie Trevathan hitting a single as the first batter up.
After Kailyn Gaitlord stole home for the first point of
the game, Gleason's inning ended soon after, due to Trevathan being caught out during a steal attempt and
two pop outs from pitcher Sara Rieger and center
fielder Allison Thetford.
The Lady Tornadoes added two to their scoreboard in
the bottom of the first from Sharie Williams taking
home on a wild pitch and a hit from Brook Laws
bringing Allison McCullough home.
A scoreless second inning was followed by both teams
tying the game up 3-all in the third. Trevathan and
Riley Auvenshine both made it home in the top of
the third after hits from Taylor and Ashley Camp,
in that order.

Dresden rally falls short against West Carroll

By J. R. Peevyhouse
Sports Editor

The Dresden Lady Lions kept the game close throughout much of the game. However, runs in the sixth and seventh inning from the West Carroll Lady War Eagles were enough to all the visitors from Atwood to take a 3-2 win from Dresden on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Lions threatened early in the game. A single by Emily Rook and a double by Kelly Filtz gave the Dresden girls runners at second and third with one out. But, a strikeout and a groundout ended the threat and left the game scoreless.
After the Dresden defense stranded a Lady War Eagle runner for a second straight inning, the Lady Lions got on the board for the first time. LaShonda Wright singled to open the frame, but a pair of strikeouts left her at second base with two outs. But, Dresden hurler Kendra Caldwell helped her own cause, reaching on an error to plate Wright and give Dresden a 1-0 lead.
