Alice Hornsby
Alice Hornsby, 92, died Monday, September 26, 2005. Services
for Mrs. Hornsby were held Thursday, September 29, 2005, at
11:00 a.m. at Oakland Hills Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Hornsby was preceded in death by her husband, Sam M.
Hornsby; and a son, James R. Hornsby.
Mrs. Hornsby is survived by a son, William (Charlene)
Hornsby; a daughter, Ruth Faye Hollander; five
grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Geneva
Elizabeth Adams
Geneva Elizabeth Adams (nee Gordon), 93, of Martin, died
Sunday, September 25, 2005, at Martin Health Care, where she
had been a patient for over ten years. Funeral services for
Mrs. Adams were held Wednesday, September 28, 2005, at 11:00
a.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in Sharon. Interment followed
at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sharon.
Mrs. Adams was born October 16, 1911 in Sharon and lived in
Sharon most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of
the Sharon Baptist Church. Mrs. Adams was preceded in death
by her husband, Franklin Newberry Adams; a brother, Eugene
(Ruth) Gordon; and her parents, Cleve and Alma Gordon.
Mrs. Adams is survived by a daughter, Barbara Jean (David)
Grassel of Hobart, Indiana; a grandchild, Michael Franklin
Corso of Horbart, Indiana; and many nieces and nephews.
Hugh A. Bufford
Hugh A. Bufford, 56, of Martin, died Friday, September 30,
2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. Bufford were held Monday, October 3, 2005,
at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial
followed in Morris Cemetery in Greenfield. Randy Stacy
officiated the services.
Mr. Bufford worked at the University of Tennessee at Martin
and was a Mason. He was born February 10, 1949 in Martin to
the late Marlin Dorr Bufford and Willie Allen Egher.
Mr. Bufford is survived by his wife, Doris Bethel Bufford; a
brother, Fred Bufford of Desha, Arkansas; and a sister,
Peggy Marlo Upton of Harrison, Arkansas. Loretta
Crabtree
Loretta Crabtree, 80, formerly of Sharon, died Tuesday,
September 27, 2005, at Edwards Hospital in Naperville,
Illinois. Funeral services were held Sunday, October 2,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in
Sharon. Burial followed in Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield.
Rev. Harold Stricker officiated the services.
Mrs. Crabtree was born April 19, 1925 in Greenfield to the
late Willie and Cora (Day) Owen. She was retired from the
Ovaltine Corporation. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Crabtree was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles;
a son, Ronald Walker; and a sister, Elaine Newell.
Mrs. Crabtree is survived by her children, Carlotta (the
late Michael) Marchese of Wilmington, Illinois, Loretta (the
late Creighton) Cooper of Bartlett, Illinois, and Ronald
Crabtree of Tennessee; two sisters, Dorothy (Norman) Wallace
of Sharon, and Shirley (Billy) Swindell of Greenfield; three
brothers, Jimmy (the late Grace) Owen of Indiana, Billy
(Pinkie) Owen of Martin, and Douglas Sharp of Kentucky;
eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two
great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Damon Hailey Cloar
Damon Hailey Cloar, 58, of Union City, died Wednesday,
September 28, 2005, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in
Union City. Funeral services for Mr. Cloar were held Friday,
September 30, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at White-Ranson Funeral
Home, Inc. in Union City. Burial followed in Obion County
Memorial Gardens in Union City. Bro. Eddie Mallonee and Bro.
Jerry Leggett officiated the services.
Mr. Cloar was a retired fireman with the Union City Fire
Department and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He
was born February 24, 1947 in Weakley County.
Mr. Cloar is survived by his wife, Debbie Cloar of Union
City; two sons, Allen Dewayne Cloar of Covington, and Kevin
Lynn Cloar of Union City; his parents, Erwin Allen Cloar and
Debbie Ragan Cloar of Union City; a brother, Keith Cloar of
Water Valley, Kentucky; six grandchildren; stepsons, Robert
Montgomery of Stanford, Kentucky, and Richard Montgomery of
Dresden; and an aunt, Robbie Tannier of Troy. Homer
Atlas Summers
Homer Atlas Summers, 92, of Greenfield, died Wednesday,
September 28, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mr. Summers were held Sunday,
October 2, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Interment followed in Meredian Cemetery. Keith
Pence and David Lancaster, pastor of Meredian Cumberland
Presbyterian Church, officiated the services.
Mr. Summers was raised in the Meredian area and was a member
of the Meredian Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He married
Miss Louise Barnen in 1934 and moved to Flint, Michigan in
1936. They lived there until they retired and moved back to
Greenfield in 1986. He was a Mason for 54 years. Mr. Summers
was preceded in death by his wife, Birdie Louise Summers.
Mr. Summers is survived by two nieces, Stella Forrester of
New Port Richie, Florida, and Merle Carter of Dyersburg; a
nephew, Larry Cooper of Florida; one cousin, Dick Summers of
Fort Worth, Texas; and one sister-in-law, Della Summers of
Flint, Michigan. Joseph Andrew Barton
Joseph Andrew Barton, 85, of Greenfield, died Saturday,
October 1, 2005, at Oak Manor Nursing Home in McKenzie.
Interment will be in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield.
Mr. Barton was a stockbroker for Morgan-Keegen and was a
veteran of the United States Army and Air Force. He was born
October 30, 1919 in Greenfield to the late Joseph C. Barton
and Odell Ray.
Mr. Barton is survived by his wife, Helen (Hatcher) Barton
of Greenfield; a son, Rickey Ray Barton of Bedford, Texas;
and a daughter, Jo Ann (Barton) Campbell of Dresden.
Louise Dunlap Sharp
Louise Dunlap Sharp, 85, of Greenfield, died Wednesday,
September 28, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Sharp were held Friday,
September 30, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Williams Funeral Home
in Greenfield. Burial followed in Brock's Cemetery in
Greenfield. Rev. Randy Stacy and Houston Patrick officiated
the services.
Mrs. Sharp was a homemaker and attended Brock's Chapel
Methodist Church in Greenfield. She was born June 2, 1920 in
Sharon to the late Cull Dunlap and Fannie Cupp. In addition
to her parents, Mrs. Sharp was also preceded in death by her
husband, Walter K. (Pete) Sharp; a daughter, Lind Henry; and
a son, Joe Sharp.
Mrs. Sharp is survived by a son, Walter D. Sharp of
Greenfield; two sisters, Faye Brewer of Sharon, and Frances
Plunk of Memphis; nine grandchildren; and eleven
great-grandchildren. |
