Alfred B. Grogan, Sr.
Alfred B. Grogan, Sr., 69, of Martin, died Wednesday,
November 16, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Memorial services for Mr. Grogan were held Saturday,
November 19, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy Funeral Home in
Martin. David Robinson officiated the services.
Mr. Grogan was a truck driver for Prime, Inc. and
Argo-Collier Corp. He was a Baptist by faith. Mr. Grogan was
born December 8, 1935 in Clinton, Kentucky to the late Eston
Grogan and Irene McWherter Grogan.
Mr. Grogan is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marilyn King Grogan
of Martin; five sons, David Dwayne Grogan of Paris, Alfred
B. Grogan, Jr. of Henry, Steven Glen Grogan of Martin, Billy
Joe Grogan of McKenzie, and James Clark Grogan of South
Fulton; two daughters, Sharon Collier of South Fulton, and
Stacey Gatewood of Dresden; twelve grandchildren; one
step-grandson; and five great-grandchildren. Bonnie
Boyd Tatum
Bonnie Boyd Tatum, 84, of Dresden, died Friday, November 18,
2005, at Regional Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. Funeral
services for Ms. Tatum were held Sunday, November 20, 2005,
at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery in Dresden. Bro. Terry
Griffin officiated the services.
Ms. Tatum had been a shoemaker at BayBee Shoe Company in
Dresden and was a Baptist by faith. She was born in Parson,
Tennessee to the late James Clarence Boyd, Sr. and Ada
Harris Boyd. In addition to her parents, Ms. Tatum was also
preceded in death by a sister, Beatrice Gilliam; and six
brothers, Noal, JT, JC, Bobby Wayne, Melvin, and Billy Boyd.
Ms. Tatum is survived by several nieces and nephews; and a
sister-in-law, Alma Boyd of Dresden.
Earl Samuel Sullivan
Funeral services for Earl Samuel Sullivan, 84, were held
Saturday, November 19th at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist
Church in Bells, with Bro. Larry Koonce officiating. Burial
followed at Bellview Cemetery.
Mr. Sullivan died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 at
Claiborne-Hughes Health Center in Franklin, Tennessee. He
was born December 31, 1920 in Weakley County, the son of the
late Buford and Phenilla Sullivan of Greenfield. He was a
mayor and city judge for the City of Bells for 14 years. He
also served as an alderman. While under his administration,
he built a new municipal building and a bypass to the
industrial park, dedicated in his name, Sullivan Drive. He
managed and operated the Bells Movie Theatre in the 50's and
60's. He was in sales most of his life with NAA and Brown
Chevrolet. He was a service co-coordinator with N.T.D.D. in
Martin, Job Developer for Crockett and Gibson Counties. He
was a mentor to many young men and helped organize the Babe
Ruth Baseball League, where he coached and managed for 16
years. He served as Secretary, Vice President, and President
with the West TN Mayor's Association. He was President of
Area on Aging in Crockett County. Mr. Sullivan was a member
of the First Baptist Church in Bells.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ann Spraggins
Sullivan; two brothers, Nathan Sullivan and Glynn Sullivan
of Greenfield. He is survived by three daughters, Sandra
Smith and husband, Bob of Franklin, Sammie Anderson and
husband, Marshall of Dresden, and Barbara Castellaw of
Bells; eight granddaughters, Mandy (Dave) DeRocher, Molly (Jeremi)
Griggs, Corrie (Brian) Bradberry, Emily (Tyler) Rhoton,
Ellie (Andy) Holt, Melissa, Jenny, and Cassie Castellaw; and
five great-grandchildren.
Faye Wyatt
Faye Wyatt, 71, of Puryear, died Friday, November 18, 2005,
at Henry County Medical Center in Paris. Funeral services
for Mrs. Wyatt were held Sunday, November 20, 2005, at 2:00
p.m. at LeDon Chapel of Ridgeway Funeral Home in Paris.
Burial followed in New Bethel Cemetery in Henry. Tim Cole
officiated the services.
Mrs. Wyatt was a member of Hazel Baptist Church in Hazel,
Kentucky. She was born January 22, 1934 in Altoona,
Pennsylvania to the late Orvil Banks and Martha (Williams)
Banks. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Wyatt was also
preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Wyatt; a daughter,
Pamela Carroll; two brothers, Harry and Sam Banks; and two
sisters, Della Banks, and an infant sister.
Ms. Wyatt is survived by a daughter, Cathy (Brian) Curtis of
Waverly; three grandchildren, Melissa Paris of Minnesota,
Jeremy Martin of Paris, and Amber Ranallo of Clarksville;
and one great-grandchild, Calvin Martin of Paris.
James Earl Cavender
James Earl Cavender, 85, of Greenfield, died Wednesday,
November 9, 2005, at the Tennessee State Veteran's Home.
Funeral services for Mr. Cavender were held Friday, November
11, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery in
Greenfield. Billy Ross, Jessie Hawkins, and Roy Auvenshine
officiated the services.
Mr. Cavender was a truck driver for Akin and Porter Trucking
Co. and attended Springsville Baptist Church. He was born
August 29, 1920 in Greenfield. Mr. Cavender was preceded in
death by a sister, Betty Powers of Michigan.
Mr. Cavender is survived by his wife, Joy (Tillman) Cavender
of Greenfield; two sons, Jerry Cavender of Milan, and Joe
Cavender of Greenfield; a sister, Eva Sue Adams of
Diamondale, Michigan; a brother, Johnny Cavender of
Greenfield; five grandchildren, Cassie Haynes, Kelli
Cavender, Amanda Sanders, Jessica Cavender, and Jonathan
Cavender; and two great-grandchildren.
Jerry Glen Mitchell
Jerry Glen Mitchell, 68, of McKenzie, died Thursday,
November 17, 2005, at Jackson Madison County Hospital in
Jackson, Tennessee. Funeral services for Mr. Mitchell were
held Sunday, November 20, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams
Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Pleasant
Grove Cemetery in Greenfield. Bob Conley officiated the
services.
Mr. Mitchell had worked at the Milan Arsenal and attended
Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Greenfield. He was a
Veteran of the United States Army. Mr. Mitchell was born
August 19, 1937 in Greenfield to the late Talma Mitchell and
Brooksie Knott.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife, Doris Ann Mitchell of
McKenzie; two sons, Jeffrey G. (wife, Carol Ann) Mitchell of
Maryville, Tennessee, and Gregory L. (wife, Teresa) Mitchell
of Clarksville, Tennessee; two daughters, Jere Michelle
(Mitchell) Mitchell of Nashville, and Sabrina (husband,
Jason) Young of Jackson; three sisters, Faye Arrington of
Bradford, Sandra Colburn of Nashville, and Joan Stephens of
Fairview, Tennessee; three brothers, Ray Mitchell of
Bradford, Charlie Mitchell of Greenfield, and Larry Dean
Mitchell of Southaven, Mississippi; and six grandchildren,
Caitlin Mitchell, Rachel Mitchell, Drew Mitchell, Chandler
Mitchell, Brooklyn Mitchell, and Hailey Young.
Rebecca Carter White Winston
Rebecca Carter White Winston, 79, of Martin, died Saturday,
November 19, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Mrs. Winston were held Monday,
November 21, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Eastside Baptist Church.
Burial followed in East Side Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Dwayne
Maxey officiated the services.
Mrs. Winston was a seamstress and homemaker. She was a
graduate of Martin High School and a member of Central
Baptist Church. Mrs. Winston was born May 27, 1916 in Martin
to the late Elbert Carter and Rena Jackson. In addition to
her parents, Mrs. Winston was also preceded in death by her
husbands, Luther White and Tom Winston.
Mrs. Winston is survived by five daughters, Linda Rush of
Martin, Brenda Ricketts of Smyrna, Tennessee, Rebecca Cope
of Martin, Rose Kopelciw of Martin, and Betty Morrison of
Dresden; three sons, Donald White of Martin, Ronald White of
Gleason, and Vernon White of Martin; a stepson, Bobby
Winston; three brothers, Carl Carter of Martin, Fred Carter
of Union City, and Thomas Carter of Dyersburg; a sister,
Betty Ayers of Martin; fourteen grandchildren; and
twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Arley Ray "Art" Pruitt
Arley Ray "Art" Pruitt, 62, of Lansing, Michigan, died
Friday, November 18, 2005. He was born April 7, 1944 in
Detroit, Michigan the son of Marshall and Jewel (Ellis)
Pruitt.
Mr. Pruitt was a Press Operator for 28 years at General
Motors and retired in 2002. He was a member and retired from
the Michigan National Guard, 119th Field Artillery.
Mr. Pruitt was preceded in death by his parents; two
brothers; two sisters; and two grandsons, Jeffrey T. Martin
and Gage A. Hornback.
Surviving are his daughters, Tina Rae (Danny) Lee of Tupelo,
Mississippi, Valerie Sue Parkey of Lansing, Michigan, and
Melissa Carol Hornback of Tupelo, Mississippi; sons, Randy
Wayne Pruitt of Arlington, Texas, Paul Robert Parkey of
Lansing, Michigan, and John William (Kay) Parkey of Bath;
sixteen grandchildren, Jason Martin, Maeghen Pruitt, T.J.
Martin, Jessica Pruitt, Harley Parkey, Zoey Hornback, Jordan
Parkey, Kristen Parkey, Daniel (Tracy) Lee, Jennifer (Paul)
Carpenter, Kimberly Lee, Ray-Lynn Frisbie, Anthony Parkey,
Dylan Parkey, Kaylbe Parkey, and Adam Hornback; and one
great-granddaughter, Haley Carpenter. He also leaves behind
two brothers, Bobby (Linda) Pruitt and Gerald (Ruth) Pruitt;
sisters, Dorothy (Marlan) Gallimore, Katie (Jerry) Wainscott,
and Sue Williams; and many nieces and nephews.
Private family services will be held.
Carol Lynn Hubble
Carol Lynn Hubble, 59, of Greenfield, died Wednesday,
November 16, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in
Martin. Funeral services for Ms. Hubble were held Friday,
November 18, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in
Greenfield. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery in
Greenfield. Shannon Salivia and Dave Reinhart officiated the
services.
Ms. Hubble was a Case Manager for West Tenn State
Penitentiary. She was born August 31, 1946 in Evansville,
Indiana. Ms. Hubble was preceded in death by her father,
John Powers; and a sister, Barbara Jo Taylor.
Ms. Hubble is survived by a daughter, Tracy Hubble of
Greenfield; two sons, Jeff McCullough of Greenfield, and
Cory Hubble of Martin; her mother, Mary McIntosh of
Greenfield; a sister, Deena Ricketts of Greenfield; two
brothers, Terry Powers of Quincy, Illinois, and Jimmy
McIntosh of Quincy, Illinois; and one grandchild.
Eddie Jack Roney
Eddie Jack Roney, born April 11, 1931, died November 11,
2005. He leaves behind four sons, Eddie Roney, Larry Roney,
Terry Roney, and Michael Roney; and three adopted sons,
Brandon Roney, Shadow Roney, and Dakota Pence Roney. Mr.
Roney is also survived by four daughters, Debbie Roney,
Teresa Taylor of Michigan, and Starla Roney; two adopted
daughters, Angel Jordan of Dresden, and Cherie Roney.
Services were held Sunday, November 13, 2004, at White
Ranson Funeral Home in Union City. Clergy was Bro. Roy
Auvenshine of Greenfield. The resting place was in Antioch
Cemetery, where he will reside with his mother, Doshie Roney
and father, Edd Roney.
Helen R. McGehee
Helen R. McGehee, 83, of Dresden, died Thursday, November
17, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mrs. McGehee were held Saturday, November 19,
2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Jackson Funeral Home in Dukedom.
Burial followed in Morgan Cemetery in Palmersville. Rev. Bob
Copeland officiated the services.
Mrs. McGehee was a homemaker and a Methodist by faith. She
was born October 15, 1922 in Weakley County to the late
Horace and Hazel Pettit Henderson. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. McGehee was also preceded in death by a
sister, Hazel Imogene Copeland.
Mrs. McGehee is survived by her husband of 63 years, Noble
McGehee of Dresden.
J.C. Pierce
J.C. Pierce, 41, of Sharon, died Monday, November 14, 2005,
at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mr. Pierce were held Friday, November 18, 2005, at 11:00
a.m. at the First Baptist Church. Burial followed in
Woodlawn Cemetery. Dr. Jerry Summers and Rev. Jerry Powell
officiated the services.
Mr. Pierce was a plumber. He was born February 18, 1964 in
East St. Louis, Illinois.
Mr. Pierce is survived by his wife, Sheri Lynn Pierce of
Sharon; a daughter, Cherie Dena Pierce of Sharon; a son,
J.C. Pierce, III of Sharon; his father, J.C. Pierce, Jr. of
Greenfield; his mother, Shelby Pierce of Greenfield; six
sisters, Vickie Allhoumand of Memphis, Donna Clark of Milan,
Kathy Evans of Missouri, Debbie Pierce of Greenfield, Karen
Pierce of Nashville, and Sherry Young of McKenzie; and a
brother, Randy Pierce of Dresden.
Opal Virginia Simmons Taylor
Opal Virginia Simmons Taylor, 94, of Gleason, died Monday,
November 14, 2005, at McKenzie Health Care. Funeral services
for Mrs. Taylor were held Wednesday, November 16, 2005, at
2:00 p.m. at Gleason First Baptist Church. Burial followed
in Carroll County Memorial Gardens. Rev. Ernie King
officiated the services.
Mrs. Taylor was a factory worker at W.S. Wormser for 20
years and a member of Alamo Baptist Church in Rives. She was
born November 21, 1910 in Kenton to the late Rev. Charlie
Melvin and Betsy Mae Chapple Simmons. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Taylor was also preceded in death by her
husband, Ira Odean Taylor.
Mrs. Taylor is survived by three sons, Jim and wife, Dell
Taylor of Gleason, Gene and wife, Sandra Taylor of Moscow,
Tennessee, and Jerome and wife, Gloria Taylor of Gleason;
two daughters, Geraldine Taylor of Saginaw, Michigan, and
Sandra Kae and husband, Donald McMackin of Huntingdon; a
sister, Gladys Penick of Martin; fourteen grandchildren;
thirty-two great-grandchildren; and nine
great-great-grandchildren.
William Earl Harding
William Earl Harding, 78, of Martin, died Sunday, November
20, 2005, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown. Funeral
services for Mr. Harding were held Tuesday, November 22,
2005, at 1:00 p.m. at New Home Baptist Church. Burial
followed in Cates Cemetery in Martin. Rev. David Price and
Rev. Randy Potts officiated the services.
Mr. Harding worked for Dessell T. Wright Company for fifty
years. He was a graduate of Martin High School and a member
of New Home Baptist Church. Mr. Harding was born July 2,
1927 in Weakley County to the late Hobson Harding and
Beatrice Tansil Harding. In addition to his parents, Mr.
Harding was also preceded in death by a brother, Regenald
Harding.
Mr. Harding is survived by his wife, Mrs. Violet Bruff
Harding of Martin; a son, Mark William Harding of Grand
Forks, North Dakota; a daughter, Kerre Lynne Hall of Sharon;
a brother Tansil Harding of Martin; two sisters, Rena Trull
of Canton, North Carolina, and Rose Dotson of Canton, North
Carolina; and four grandchildren.
