Avery Emert
Avery Emert, 71, of Greenfield, died Sunday, March 27, 2005,
at West Tennessee Transitional Care. Funeral services for
Mr. Emert were held Tuesday, March 29, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at
Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in New
Prospect Cemetery in Greenfield. Tracy McDaniel officiated
the services.
Mr. Emert worked in maintenance at Jeanell Foam. He was born
October 2, 1933 in Dandridge, Tennessee to the late Amos
Emert and Bertha Tratt.
Mr. Emert is survived by a daughter, Donna (Emert) Pope of
Dyersburg; two sons, Paul Emert of Michigan, and Ralph Emert
of Michigan; and a brother, Frank Emert of Milan.
Donald Ray Hodges
Donald Ray Hodges, 58, of Martin, died Wednesday, March 23,
2005, at Baptist Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Hodges was employed by MTD in Martin and was a Baptist
by faith. He was born October 29, 1946 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Mr. Hodges is survived by a son, Donnie Hodges, Jr.; a
sister, Diane Hodges King of Dresden; two brothers, William
Hodges of Dresden, and David Hodges of Norfolk, Virginia.
George Anna Hearn Wehman
George Anna Hearn Wehman, 73, of Chattanooga, Tennessee,
died Monday, March 21, 2005. Funeral services were held on
Friday, March 25, 2005, at St. Luke Methodist Church with
the Reverend Sherry Boles officiating.
Mrs. Wehman was the daughter of the late George Cox Hearn
and Brownie Higgs Hearn of Greenfield. She graduated from
Greenfield High School and the University of
Tennessee-Knoxville with a BS in Political Science with
Highest Honors and later obtained teaching certification
from the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. At
UT-Knoxville, she was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority. She
was a long time member of St. Luke United Methodist Church
in Chattanooga and member of the International Society of
Antique Scale Collectors and was active in research and
contributed to the society's publications.
Mrs. Wehman is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles
Philip Wehman of Chattanooga; daughter, Melissa Wehman of
Chattanooga; son, Philip Cary Wehman and his wife Karen of
Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Mark and Carolyn
Wehman of Indianapolis; brother, Robert L. Hearn of
Greenfield; niece, Paula Hearn of Greenfield; and cousin and
life long friend, Joe Spears and his wife, Betty of Laurel,
Mississippi.
Major Hal Lynn Rainey
Military services for Major Hal Lynn Rainey were held March
21 at the Houston National Cemetery with Chaplain Hampton
Mabray officiating. Major Rainey died March 17 at his home
in Houston, Texas.
Major Rainey, a graduate of Greenfield High School and
UT-Knoxville, was a career serviceman who served with NASA
throughout his career. After retirement, Major Rainey worked
with Lockeed for five years. He was a member of The United
Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, four children, two
grandchildren, his parents, Mrs. Mable Rainey of Greenfield
and the late William H. Rainey, brothers, Dan Rainey of
Henderson and Ron Rainey of Jackson.
Paul V. Cook
Paul V. Cook, 69, of Martin, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005,
at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Cook were held Friday,
March 25, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel
in Dresden. Burial followed in Palmersville Cemetery. Rev.
Mase Jett officiated the services.
Mr. Cook was an ordained minister of Christ Community Church
in Bells, Tennessee and holds a Master Degree in Theology.
He was born in Sikeston, Missouri to the late Paul and Verla
Laughlin Cook. In addition to his parents, Mr. Cook was also
preceded in death by a son, Terry Maurice Cook.
Mr. Cook is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marcine Jackson Cook
of Martin; a daughter, Mrs. Kayra Joann Buchanan of Cordova,
Tennessee; a son, Mr. Timothy Paul Cook of Jonesbrough,
Tennessee; a sister, Joan Barto of Saint Clair, Michigan; a
sister-in-law, Kara Linson of Martin; and one grandchild,
Cody Buchanan of Cordova, Tennessee.
William D. Dismuke, Sr.
Services for William D. Dismuke, Sr., 80, of McKenzie, were
held Wednesday, March 23, 2005, in the Cedar Avenue Chapel
of McKenzie Funeral Home with Doug Sanders and Wayne Prater
officiating. Interment was at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in
McKenzie.
Mr. Dismuke, a retired production manager for Zorn Printing
Firm, died Monday, March 21, at McKenzie Regional Hospital.
He was a native of Martin and was born August 26, 1924, to
the late William Ashley Dismuke and Ruth Bell Gatewood
Dismuke. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served both
during and following World War II. He was discharged as a
sergeant in the medical corps and was a Baptist by faith. He
was preceded in death by a brother, Dupon Dismuke.
Survivors include his wife, Estelle Sanders Dismuke; two
sons, Danny Dismuke, Jr. of New York, and Robert "Bobby"
Dismuke of Long Beach, New Jersey; two brothers, Hugh
Dismuke of Dresden, and Jerry Dismuke of Crete, Illinois;
and two grandchildren.
Betty Morefield
Betty Morefield, 59, of Wingo, Kentucky, died Thursday,
March 22, 2005, at his home. Funeral services for Mrs.
Morefield were held Friday, March 25, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at
Brown Funeral Home in Mayfield, Kentucky. Burial followed in
Miller's Chapel Cemetery. Bro. Max Anderson officiated the
services.
Mrs. Morefield worked at the former Curlee's Clothing
Factory and was a member of Miller's Chapel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Homer Lee and
Lethie Ann (Rule) Williams; and three brothers, James Reed,
Denvil Williams, and Howard Williams.
Mrs. Morefield is survived by her husband, Jerry Lewis
Morefield of Wingo, Kentucky; a daughter, Candy Marie Gray
of Wingo, Kentucky; two sons, Tommy Lewis Morefield of
Mayfield, Kentucky and Rusty Lee Morefield of Dresden; three
sisters, Rosie McLeod of Benton, Kentucky, Carrie Jean Riley
of Mayfield, Kentucky, and Jessie Lee McLeod of Murray,
Kentucky; and seven grandchildren.
Dorothy Mae Terrell
Dorothy Mae Terrell, 79, of Martin (Chestnut Glade
Community), died Monday, March 21, 2005, at the home of her
daughter in Raleigh, North Carolina. Funeral services for
Mrs. Terrell were held Friday, March 25, 2005, at 1:00 p.m.
at Hornbeak Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton, Kentucky.
Entombment was in Obion County Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in
Union City. Elder Maley Davidson officiated the services.
Mrs. Terrell had been a production worker for the former
H.I.S. clothing company and attended Sandy Branch Primitive
Baptist Church. She was born March 8, 1926 in Weakley County
to the late Raymond and Clover (Brann) Wall and had lived in
this area all of her life. In addition to her parents, Mrs.
Terrell was also preceded in death by two brothers, Robert
Wall and John Wall.
Mrs. Terrell is survived by her husband, George Mack Terrell
of Martin (Chestnut Glade Community), whom she married in
October of 1994; a daughter, Lynda Nichols of Raleigh, North
Carolina; a son, Timothy M. Terrell of Birmingham, Alabama;
three grandchildren, Stephen Mark Terrell of Birmingham,
Alabama, Alana S. Terrell of San Francisco, California, and
Crista G. McCuan of Raleigh, North Carolina; a sister, Amy
Mattingly of Edmond, Oklahoma; and a brother, James Wall of
Martin.
James Lowell "Jim" Dyer
James Lowell "Jim" Dyer, 68, of South Fulton, formerly of
Dresden, died Wednesday, March 23, 2005, at Martin
Healthcare. Funeral services for Mr. Dyer were held
Saturday, March 26, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at White-Mahon
Funeral Home, Inc. in Union City. Burial followed in Terrace
Hill Cemetery in Troy. Dr. Bobby Williams officiated the
services.
Mr. Dyer was a self-employed carpenter and built homes in
the Dresden area for over 30 years. He was a 1954 graduate
of the former Dixie High School and a member of Ebenezer
Cumberland Presbyterian Church near Troy. Mr. Dyer was born
September 30, 1936 in Obion County. He was preceded in death
by his mother, Lorraine Dyer; and a son, Monty Dyer.
Mr. Dyer is survived by his wife, whom he married July 22,
1961, Wilda Dyer of South Fulton; two sons, Gary Dyer of
Martin, and Keith Dyer of Portland, Oregon; a sister, Diane
Williams of Magnolia, Arkansas; and three brothers, Bobby
Morris of Obion, Davey Lunsford of Smithton, Illinois, and
Alan Lunsford of Georgia.
