Billy S. Green
Billy S. Green, 88, of the McConnell Community in Martin,
died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at his home. Funeral services
for Mr. Green were held Saturday, May 28, 2005, at 2:00 p.m.
at Hornbeak Funeral Chapel in Fulton. Burial followed in
Obion County Memorial Gardens in Union City. Rev. Donald
Doster and Paul Adams officiated the services.
Mr. Green was a retired electrician and farmer. He was also
the oldest member of McConnell Baptist Church. Mr. Green was
born August 27, 1916 in Obion County to the late Alonzo
Walker Green, Sr. and Annie Stallins Green. In addition to
his parents, Mr. Green was also preceded in death by his
wife, Mary Elizabeth Kimberlin Green, who died March 30,
1989; a son, Glynn W. Green; three brothers, A.W. Green,
Jr., Roy Green, and James Green; and two sisters, Zula
Pierce and Christine Pierce.
Mr. Green is survived by three daughters, Alma Jean Green of
South Fulton, Judy Green of South Fulton, and Libby Stroud
of Jackson; a son, Billy Mac Green of Charlotte, North
Carolina; three sisters, Mary Ellen Ashby of South Fulton,
Ruth McAlister of Hermitage, Tennessee, and Bettye
Williamson of Fulton; a brother, Charles Green of Swansea,
Illinois; special friend, Margaret Dunavant of Dukedom; and
one granddaughter, Savannah Stroud of Jackson.
Edith M. Hunter
Edith M. Hunter, 78, of Dresden, died Thursday, May 26,
2005, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Graveside
services for Ms. Hunter were held Friday, May 27, 2005, at
11:00 a.m. at Meridian Cemetery in Greenfield. Dayne Hawks
officiated the service.
Ms. Hunter was born March 6, 1927. She had worked as a
mobile home factory worker.
Ms. Hunter is survived by a son, Charles Hunter.
Jessie Wray King
Jessie Wray King, 93, of Dresden, died Monday, May 23, 2005,
at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral services
for Mrs. King were held Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at 11:00
a.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden. Burial
followed in Thompson Cemetery near Palmersville. Elder
Houston Patrick officiated the services.
Mrs. King was a homemaker and member of Blooming Grove
Primitive Baptist Church near Palmersville. She was a native
of Weakley County and the daughter of the late Auther Cashon
and Ida Bell Davis Thompson. In addition to her parents,
Mrs. King was also preceded in death by her husband, Mr.
Basil Monsee King; a sister, Ruth Thompson Perry; and a
brother, John Thompson.
Mrs. King is survived by two daughters, Jessie Mansfield of
Dresden, and Dortha Sue Ray of Dresden; seven grandchildren,
Tommy (Rene) Ray, Randy (Anita) Ray, Chris (Paige) Ray,
Steve Ray, Mark (Michelle) Mansfield, Rebekah (Mitch)
Skelton, and Denise Bradberry; twelve great-grandchildren,
Beth, Jordan, Hallie, Garrett, Kelsey and Reese Ray, Kris
Bradberry, Tabitha Herrin, Josh and Crystal Skelton, and
Mandy and Mack Mansfield; two step-great-grandchildren,
Amanda Vincent and Dana Sullivan; one
great-great-grandchild, Ryleigh Herrin; and one
step-great-great-grandchild, Hayley Sullivan. Louis
F. Grissom
Louis F. Grissom, 84, of Trimble, Tennessee, died Thursday,
May 26, 2005, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Funeral services for Mr. Grissom were held Sunday, May 29,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel in
Newbern. Burial followed in Zion Cemetery in Elbridge,
Tennessee. Pastor Judith Wolfgang officiated the services.
Mr. Grissom was a retired employee of Doug Rice & Sons
Mechanical Contractors, a retired farmer, and a retired
plumber and pipe fitter. He was also a United States Army
Veteran, member of Trimble First United Methodist Church,
and former member of the American Legion. Mr. Grissom was
born July 16, 1920 in Columbia, Tennessee to the late
William Herman Grissom and Jewell Singleton Grissom. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Grissom was also preceded in
death by his wife, Emma P. Grissom; and two brothers, Bill
Grissom and Everett Grissom.
Mr. Grissom is survived by three daughters, Brenda Hood of
Millington, Bonnie Whitson of Trimble, and Martha Jewell
Whitworth of Gleason; two sons, Roger Dale Grissom of
Buchanan, and William H. Grissom of Newbern; a sister, Anna
Bell Hendricks of Easley, South Carolina; a brother, James
Grissom of Bessimer, Alabama; eleven grandchildren; and
seventeen great-grandchildren. Mary A. Nunley
Mary A. Nunley, 84, of Martin, died Thursday, May 26, 2005,
at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral services
for Mrs. Nunley will be held today, Wednesday, June 1, 2005,
at 2:00 p.m. at Old Fulton Road Church of Christ. Burial
will follow in Parhams Cemetery in Martin. Bro. Graham
McGill will officiate the services.
Mrs. Nunley formerly worked at the Carter Hotel and she
retired from food service at the University of Tennessee at
Martin. She was a member of Old Fulton Road Church of
Christ. Mrs. Nunley was born November 18, 1920 in Maury
County, Tennessee to the late Luke Nunley and Jessie Holmes
Nunley. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nunley was also
preceded in death by four sons, James William Thompson,
Larry Leroy Jones, Charles Lawrence Jones, and Darrell Wayne
Jones; and two daughters, Wanda Faye Jones and Martha Ann
Jones.
Mrs. Nunley is survived by two sons, Robert L. Thompson of
Martin, and Roger Jones of Henning, Tennessee; two
daughters, Calendar Jean Allison of Fayetteville, North
Carolina, and Ceola Belton of Detroit, Michigan; thirty
grandchildren; thirty-four great-grandchildren; and
seventeen great-great-grandchildren. Thomas J. "T.J."
Oliver
Thomas J. "T.J." Oliver, 86, of Dresden, died Monday, May
23, 2005, at Hillview Community Living Center in Dresden.
Funeral services for Mr. Oliver were held Wednesday, May 25,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in Olive Branch Cemetery in Como. Max
Speight, Dr. Dale Mathis, and Larry Ray officiated the
services.
Mr. Oliver was a farmer and member of Olivet Methodist
Church near Gleason. He was a native of Weakley County and
the son of the late Luther B. and Isabell Watts Oliver. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Oliver was also preceded in
death by his wife, Mary Louise Highfill.
Mr. Oliver is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Larry) Ray of
Tupelo, Mississippi; four sons, Terry (Marsha) Oliver of
Gleason, Johnny (Kitty) Oliver of Gleason, David (Beverly)
Oliver of Gleason, and Paul (Beth) Oliver of Gleason; a
sister, Raye (Earl) Oliver Hays of Cottage Grove; a brother,
J. Jeter Oliver of Gleason; thirteen grandchildren; and nine
great-grandchildren. E.L. "Brownie" Brewer
E.L. "Brownie" Brewer, 69, of Dresden, died Friday, May 20,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Jackson General Hospital in Jackson.
Funeral services for Mr. Brewer were held Monday, May 23,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Unity General Baptist Church in
Dresden. Burial followed in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bro. L.C. Hollingsworth officiated the services.
Mr. Brewer was a retired truck driver and member of Unity
General Baptist Church. He was a native of Wayne County,
Tennessee and the son of the late Arie and Roxie Frazier
Brewer. In addition to his parents, Mr. Brewer was also
preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Jewel Brewer.
Mr. Brewer is survived by six sons, Buddy Brewer of
Millington, Tennessee, Charles Brewer of Dresden, Ronald
Brewer of Dresden, David Brewer of Dresden, Brian Brewer of
Dresden, and Anthony Wayne Brewer of Dresden; four sisters,
Rosetta Staggs of Hohenwald, Burnice Jones of Hickman,
Kentucky, Ludine Turner of Obion, and Cathy Brewer Yates of
Union City; two brothers, James Douglas Brewer of Union
City, and Hubert Brewer of Dresden; twenty-two
grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Eleanor
Virginia Buckley
Eleanor Virginia Buckley, 88, of Dresden, died Wednesday,
May 25, 2005, at Hillview Community Living Center in
Dresden. Funeral services for Ms. Buckley were held Friday,
May 27, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Gardner Funeral Home in
Sharon. Burial followed in Sunset Cemetery. Corey Sawyers
and Hugh Adams officiated the services.
Ms. Buckley was a homemaker. She was born March 15, 1917 in
Sharon. Ms. Buckley was preceded in death by a sister, Sally
Adams; and five brothers, James B. Roberts, Robert Malcolm
Roberts, Len Roberts, Gary Thomas Roberts, and William
McDonald Roberts.
Ms. Buckley is survived by three sons, Bob Buckley of
Dresden, Coy Buckley of Mobile, Alabama, and Mark Buckley of
Dundee, Michigan; two sisters, Fannie Mae Moore of
Dyersburg, and Faye Wilson of Dresden; nine grandchildren;
and nine great-grandchildren. June Pruitt Burge
June Pruitt Burge, 69, of Dresden, died Tuesday, May 24,
2005, at Hillview Community Living Center in Dresden.
Funeral services for Mrs. Burge were held Thursday, May 26,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Davis Memorial Baptist Church in
Dresden. Burial followed in Martin Memorial Gardens. Rev.
Bobby Pruitt and Bro. Vernon Smith officiated the services.
Mrs. Burge was a homemaker and member of Davis Memorial
Baptist Church. She was a native of Graves County, Kentucky
and the daughter of the late Marshall Wiley and Jewel Mayo
Pruitt. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Burge was also
preceded in death by a son, Calvin Artie Dudley; a sister,
Betty Martin; and two brothers, Glenn Pruitt and Rudy
Pruitt.
Mrs. Burge is survived by her husband, Mr. Elwood James
Burge of Dresden; two sons, Jack Dudley of Lansing,
Michigan, and Garry Dudley of Dresden; three sisters, Sue
Williams of Dyersburg, Katie Wainscott of McKenzie, and
Dorothy Gallimore of Dresden; three brothers, Bobby Pruitt
of Martin, Gerald Pruitt of Paris, and Arley Pruitt of
Lansing, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Jackson George
Dudley and Christopher Darrell Dudley, both of Lansing,
Michigan. Margie Marie Flippen
Margie Marie Flippen, 81, of Greenfield, died Thursday, May
26, 2005, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral
services for Ms. Flippen were held Friday, May 27, 2005, at
2:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial
followed in Meridian Cemetery in Greenfield. David
Landcaster and Keith Pence officiated the services.
Ms. Flippen was a homemaker and attended Meridian Cumberland
Presbyterian Church in Greenfield. She was born September 4,
1923 in Greenfield to the late William Fred Rogers and Grace
Drewry.
Ms. Flippen is survived by a daughter, Phyllis Huggins of
Greenfield; a son, Gene Rogers of Greenfield; three
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Nancy
Sutherland
Nancy Sutherland, 64, of Greenfield, died Tuesday, May 24,
2005, at her home. Funeral services for Mrs. Sutherland were
held Thursday, May 26, 2005, at 4:00 p.m. at Williams
Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in Brock's
Cemetery in Greenfield. Roy Auvenshine officiated the
services.
Mrs. Sutherland was a homemaker. She was born June 30, 1940
in Greenfield to the late Losson Puckett and Louise Gammons.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Sutherland was also
preceded in death by her husband, Zane Sutherland.
Mrs. Sutherland is survived by two daughters, Alana Hill of
Sharon, and Alisa Fuller of Martin; a son, Wayne McAlister
of Greenfield; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. |
