Jo Ann Cravens Houston
Jo Ann Cravens Houston, 70, of Paris, died Thursday,
August 4, 2005, at her daughter's home in McKenzie. Funeral
services for Mrs. Houston were held Saturday, August 6,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Gallimore Funeral Home Chapel in
Gleason. Burial followed in Hopewell Cemetery. Rev. Vance
Rushing officiated the services.
Mrs. Houston was a department store clerk and a member
of the Gleason Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She was born
November 19, 1934 in Gleason to the late Joe Huey and Maggie
Lois Heath Cravens. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Houston
was also preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Houston.
Mrs. Houston is survived by two sons, Tony Patton of
Eureka, Missouri, and Tim Patton of Gleason; a daughter,
Vickie Crocker of McKenzie; a brother, Terry Cravens of
McKenzie; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Walter Hickman, Jr.
Walter Hickman, Jr., 116, perhaps Tennessee's oldest
living man, died Saturday, August 6, 2005, at Jackson
General Hospital in Jackson. Funeral services for Mr.
Hickman were held Saturday, August 13, 2005, at 11:00 a.m.
at Fuller Street Baptist Church in Dresden. Rev. H.T. Conner
officiated the services. Burial was in Parham Cemetery in
Martin.
Mr. Hickman was born March 22, 1889 in Dekalb,
Mississippi to the late Walter and Addie Coleman Hickman
Sr.. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and
eight siblings.
He is survived by a son, Bennie (Alberta) Hickman of
Davenport, Iowa; daughters, Ezzie (Elbert) McGraw of Martin,
Elmarine Pace of Desmoines, Iowa, and Caline Ball of Palm
Beach, Florida; a host of grandchildren,
great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; step
daughter-in-law, Gladys Beck; step-sister, Willie Mae
Pollard; and several nieces and nephews. Vergie
Louise Loveland
Vergie Louise Loveland, 60, of Dresden, died Thursday,
August 4, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin.
Funeral services for Ms. Loveland were held Sunday, August
7, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Sharon Church of Christ. Burial
followed in Tansil Cemetery near Sharon. Larry Powers
officiated the services.
Ms. Loveland was born January 6, 1945 in Sharon.
Survivors include a son, Leonard Loveland, Jr. of
Midland, Texas; two daughters, Sherry South of Dresden, and
Rhonda Woolen of Paris; six sisters, Ann Gardner of Martin,
Carol Garrett of Martin, Grace McKay of Martin, Linda Muzzal
of Clarksville, Tennessee, Kaye Orr of Sharon, and Sue
Wilson of Martin; a brother, Gerald Wiley of Sharon; and
four grandchildren. W.C. McCaney
W.C. McCaney, 78, of Greenfield, died Saturday, August
13, 2005, at Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin. Funeral
services for Mr. McCaney were held Tuesday, August 16, 2005,
at 1:00 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial
followed in Rose Hill Cemetery in Greenfield. Rev. Wilmor
Caldwell officiated the services.
Mr. McCaney was a concrete finisher and attended St.
Luke Baptist Church. He was born October 12, 1926 in Milan
to the late Will McCaney and Lottie Richardson.
Mr. McCaney is survived by a daughter, Martha McCaney
of Greenfield; a grandchild, Eric Higgs of Martin; a sister,
Lucille Allen of Greenfield; and a brother, Bobby Joe
McCaney of Lansing, Michigan.
