Beatrice Gilliam
Beatrice Gilliam, 81, of Dresden, died Wednesday, February
16, 2005, at Weakley County Nursing Home in Dresden. Funeral
services for Mrs. Gilliam were held Friday, February 18,
2005, at 2:00 p.m. at Bowlin Funeral Home Chapel in Dresden.
Burial followed in West Union Cemetery in Dresden. Bro.
Terry Griffin officiated the services.
Mrs. Gilliam was a retired Nurses Aid at the Weakley County
Nursing Home and a member of West Union Baptist Church in
Dresden. She was born in Decatur County to the late J.C. and
Ada Harris Boyd. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gilliam
was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Watson
Gilliam.
Mrs. Gilliam is survived by five daughters, Freida Mullins
of Humboldt, Joyce Hensley of Dresden, Wanda Lamon of
Blytheville, Arkansas, Debbie Buck of Dresden, and Betty
Anderson of Blytheville, Arkansas; two sons, Randy Gilliam
of Blytheville, Arkansas, and Charles Gilliam of
Blytheville, Arkansas; a sister, Bonnie Tatum of Dresden;
twenty-five grandchildren; and thirty-eight
great-grandchildren.
Harry J. Ciscell
Harry J. Ciscell, 61, of McKenzie, died Sunday, February 20,
2005, at Regional Hospital of Jackson. Funeral services for
Mr. Ciscell were held Monday, February 21, 2005, at 1:00
p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed
in Hornbeak Cemetery in Greenfield. Roy Auvenshine
officiated the services.
Mr. Ciscell was born June 2, 1943 in Charleston, Missouri to
the late Harry Ciscell Sr. and Gladys Mae Stone.
Mr. Ciscell is survived by three sons, Darrell Ciscell of
Greenfield, Michael Ciscell of Greenfield, and Timothy
Ciscell of McKenzie; a daughter, Kimberly Gougat of
Cleveland, Ohio; three sisters, Lucille of Mound City,
Illinois, Barbara Casey of Greenfield, and Marie Moore of
Martin; and eight grandchildren.
Jim "Spider" Dumas
The funeral service for former Post-Intelligencer and
Dresden Enterprise
writer and columnist James Howard "Spider" Dumas Jr. were
held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 18, 2005, at McEvoy
Funeral Home. Charles Orr and Gary Collier officiated the
services. Burial was in Walker Cemetery.
Mr. Dumas, 75, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at Fort
Loudon Medical Center in Lenoir City.
Born October 3, 1929, in Henry County, he was a son of the
late James Howard Dumas Sr. and Billie Williams Dumas. Mr.
Dumas was a journalist, author, historian and political
activist. He was a member of the Paris Lions Club, Elks
Lodge, Harris Camp Sons of Confederate Veterans and charter
member of the Sevierville Kiwanis Club. A U.S. Navy veteran
of the Korean War, he was a member of local VFW Post 1889
and the American Legion Post in Dresden. He was the fourth
great-grandson of David Crockett and third great-grandson of
Col. William A. Tharpe.
He leaves two daughters, Sandy (Phil) Owens of Farragut and
Mary (Alex) Davis of Sevierville; one brother, Bill (Peggy)
Dumas of Cottage Grove; four grandchildren, Jessy, Jacob and
Sarah Jo Owens, and Ally Davis; two nieces, Pam (Joey)
Choate and Linda (Dennis) Ziemba; two great-nephews, Luke
and Joshua Choate; a great-niece, Hannah Choate; and special
friend, Julia Myrick of Paris.
Mary Crittendon Patterson
Mary Crittendon Patterson, 89, of Martin, died Sunday,
February 20, 2005, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock,
Arkansas. Funeral services for Mrs. Patterson will be held
today, Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Murphy
Funeral Home in Martin. Burial will follow in East Side
Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Roger Oldham will officiate the
services.
Mrs. Patterson operated Jack & Jill Daycare for over 40
years and was a member of the First Baptist Church. She was
born January 12, 1916 in Obion County to the late William
Crittendon and Jessie Janes Crittendon. In addition to her
parents, Mrs. Patterson was also preceded in death by her
husband, Malcolm (Pat) Patterson.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by a son, Gary Patterson of
Jonesboro, Arkansas; two grandchildren; Melissa Simon of
Cabot, Arkansas, and Malcolm Patterson of Auburn,
Washington; and two great-grandchildren, Karlee Simon of
Cabot, Arkansas, and Alex Patterson of Auburn, Washington.
Charles A. Huffstetler
Charles A. Huffstetler, 86, of Greenfield, died Friday,
February 18, 2005, at his home. Funeral services for Mr.
Huffstetler were held Saturday, February 19, 2005, at 2:00
p.m. at Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed
in Highland Cemetery in Greenfield. Dr. Roy Whaley and Randy
Stacy officiated the services.
Mr. Huffstetler was a farmer and member of the First
Presbyterian Church in Greenfield. He was born June 28, 1919
in Greenfield to the late Charles A. Huffstetler Sr. and
Beluah Patterson.
Mr. Huffstetler is survived by his wife, Abby (Terry)
Huffstetler of Greenfield; three sons, Terry Huffstetler of
Union City, Randy Huffstetler of Greenfield, and Mark
Huffstetler of Greenfield; seven grandchildren; and eight
great-grandchildren.
Hollis L. Harrison
Hollis L. Harrison, 89, of Martin, died Saturday, February
19, 2005, at his home. Funeral services for Mr. Harrison
were held Monday, February 21, 2005, at 2:00 p.m. at
Williams Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial followed in
Brock's Cemetery in Greenfield. Elder Houston Patrick and
Elder T.L. Webb Jr. officiated the services.
Mr. Hollis was a farmer and attended Macedonia Primitive
Baptist Church. He was born February 27, 1915 in Martin to
the late Andrew Harrison and Nora Terry Harrison. In
addition to his parents, Mr. Harrison was also preceded in
death by his first wife, Beauton Harrison; and a daughter,
Betty Jane Brasfield.
Mr. Harrison is survived by his wife, Mary Collier Harrison;
a brother, Ray Harrison of Martin; family members, Dianne
(Garry) Hopper, Patsy Thetford of Martin, and Janeice
(Rodger) Adkins of Martin; four grandchildren; and three
great-grandchildren.
Lillie Bell Johnson
Lillie Bell Johnson, 96, of Gleason, died Wednesday,
February 16, 2005, at Henry County Medical Center in Paris.
Funeral services for Ms. Johnson were held Friday, February
8, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church. Burial
followed in Shiloh Cemetery.
Ms. Johnson was a retired store owner.
Survivors include two daughters, Robbie Barineau of
Jacksonville, Florida, and Loville Boane of Gleason; two
brothers, James Mayo of McKenzie, and Elbert Mayo of
McKenzie; two sisters, Lucille Woods of Gleason, and Lula
Mae Holmes of Huntingdon; nine grandchildren; and several
great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mary Lou Sadler
Mary Lou Sadler, 88, of Martin, died Tuesday, February 15,
2005, at Martin Health Care. Funeral services for Mrs.
Sadler were held Friday, February 18, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at
Murphy Funeral Home in Martin. Burial followed in East Side
Cemetery in Martin. Rev. Matt Brown officiated the services.
Mrs. Sadler was a homemaker and member of Central Baptist
Church in Martin. She was born July 7, 1916 in McKenzie to
the late George McKenzie and Minnie Lemons McKenzie. In
addition to her parents, Mrs. Sadler was also preceded in
death by her husband, David Sadler.
Mrs. Sadler is survived by a sister, Ruby Sadler of
Arlington Heights, Illinois; and cousins and caregivers,
Teddy and Linda Sadler of Martin.
