Law enforcement officers from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department and Martin Police Department have charged five persons for aiding fugitive Jeremy Snider, 28, of 120 Fulton Street in Martin, in his attempt to elude capture.

Investigators from the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department have charged two people with accessory after the fact for their role in helping Jeremy Snider, a fugitive from justice, avoid capture while running from the law.

Arrested were 22 year-old Sarah Elizabeth Webb of Martin, and 33 year-old Celia Andrea Dinning of Gleason. Both were charged with accessory after the fact, which is a Class E felony. The pair allegedly not only helped Snider by providing him with a place to hide, but also assisted the fugitive by providing him with the use of cell phones and transportation. Webb, who was at the residence when Snider was captured last week, was also charged with possession of methamphetamine.

Investigator Marty Plunk states that he anticipates one or two more people will be charged by the Sheriff’s Department.

MPD reports tobacco products stolen from semi-truck

Members of the Martin Police Department are investigating last Wednesday night’s theft of over $8,000 worth of tobacco products from the trailer of a semi-truck that was parked at Days Inn located at 800 University Street.

According to Martin Police Captain Scott Robbins, the truck driver, who is from Gallatin Tennessee, told police that someone had cut the lock on his trailer sometime between 10 p.m. Wednesday night and 5 a.m. Thanksgiving morning.

Local Guardsmen hoping to be home for the holidays

Several Weakley County residents serving with Company A, 230 Engineers have hopes of making it home for the holidays, following a recent announcement that their tour of duty is about to wind down.

Members of the unit, who left for Kuwait on January 9, 2005, were elated when they recently received notification from Lieutenant Colonel Lee E. Tafanelli, commanding officer of 891st Battalion, that if all goes according to plan, they may be redeploying back to the United States soon and be home in time for Christmas.

In an email sent to local members of the Family Readiness Group, Tafanelli stated intentions are to depart Iraq sometime during the first week of December.  Although not allowed to communicate specific dates in order to protect out-going and in-coming soldiers, Tafanelli anticipates soldiers returning to their home armories sometime during the third week in December.

“We still have much work to do here and our soldiers are busy conducting current operations, preparing for our transition with out replacements and beginning the deployment process.

“Over the next few weeks, soldiers will be packing up equipment, going through briefings and medical screenings as well as a myriad of other redeployment tasks in preparation for our return home,” he wrote.
